I took my 10yrar old Z435 John Deere zero turn mower to Little's, telling them it cuts off when…read morethe blade is engaged and it started making a noise. After they looked it over, the noise was just a loose belt guide, but they gave me an estimate for $3,995 and said the engine needs replaced and other issues, also said it smoked (which i never noticed). Another repair option they gave was to rebuild the engine for $2,889, but said it did not include other non engine repairs. Little's gave me the option of trading my mower in for a new one (comparable to $5k). They offered me only a credit of $228 to cover the work they did finding issues. I declined, paid the $228 and took it to Hensel's Mower Service in Parkesburg Pa., and said the same thing...that it cuts off when I engage the blades. After a week, they said it was done. I picked it up and cut my entire lawn. No issues, no smoke, perfect. Hensel's cost was $399.07...not $3,995. This included them changing all fluids, filters, belts, sharpened blades. PLEASE ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION!!!! Little's would have fixed my mower for cheap, then resold for a profit if I would have traded it in for the $228 cost of them 'going over' the mower

I had them pick up my mower to service and repair. called to say it needed a new engine. I told…read morethem it did not. i said to them to sharpen the blades and service it. They did not do any of it. They did replace the belt that was slipping. I am very disappointed that they did not do all that I asked. I have been a llong term customer but now I will not return.

The store has a nice selection of tools and accessories and a good amount of exotic wood…read more My last visit left me a bit irritated as one of the staff (guy with a mustache) struck me as being unnecessarily condescending, but you be the judge: I was in need of boards of a particular thickness so was at the ruler station and was using one of the larger rulers. This guy walks by and suggests I could pull one of the smaller and more precise ones for use (which would have left a favorable impression if he'd stopped there) but then he adds "if you see an employee doing something a certain way then I'd suggest you do the same". In my case, the ruler I was using was sufficient to identify that the board was thinner than I needed so his assumption that I was struggling and in need of his assistance was ill founded and what seemed to be criticism of my judgement was certainly unhelpful (I may not be an expert woodworker but I'm also not an idiot). I didn't say anything at the time ( a couple years ago) but the experience has made me less likely to return as a customer. I'm sure these guys have an interest in proving extra value through their expertise but, in this case, the employee's desire to turn an unsolicited interaction into a "teaching moment" backfired a bit (as I considered going there this morning to make a purchase but chose to buy online instead due primarily to this unpleasant interaction). Given the lasting impression this has made I felt some feedback might still be fair to provide I should say, beside this guy, the other employees have provided fine service

If you're looking to browse/buy all kinds of woodworking supplies, tools, lumber, etc., in the real…read moreworld and not online, take a drive out to Downingtown. This Woodcraft retail location has a great selection of a range of products which you'd almost certainly have to order online otherwise. Much of the store, especially the lumber, is targeted at hobbyists, but there's plenty of eye-candy for pro-woodworkers who love what they do. This hobbyist inclination is not a surprise based on the online store. There's many turning project supplies for pens, bottle stoppers, etc. The large shop machines are definitely more pro-woodworker oriented. The lumber selection is pretty good, but in smaller quantities than you'd find at a specialty lumber yard. What they're missing in quantity is made up for in variety. There's probably two-dozen different hardwood species in different thicknesses, including thin boards and veneers. They also have a large selection of turning blanks for bowls and spindles from many different hardwoods. Pricing is generally the same as the online store, but I think they are locally owned, so may not always offer the on-sale prices. I think I had one item that fell into this category. Another minor issue I had was they didn't seem to have any shopping basket or carts, so I had to keep dropping stuff off into my pile near the cash register until I got everything I needed. It was an hour or so trip out from center city, so I wanted to make it worth my while and not just pick up 1 or 2 things. Besides tools and supplies, they have a large selection of router bits, books, and I think they also offer classes at this location. I haven't found any other stores in the area which offer as much variety of woodworking-specific items, so this place is a 4-star business to me.
