Plus this was my first time doing a buy online & pick up in store. Was super easy & made my shopping trip a quick one. Plus the employees are cool too. It was a great offer, where Hawaii Electric wanted people to give up energy inefficient bulbs and use more efficient LED bulbs. Well, it's a great offer if the people at the store don't refuse to do the exchange and you have to purchase the bulbs instead. That's how it went down. I decided to write to Hawaii Electric and got a nice response from Kolia, who offered to investigate the problem. It took quite a while (like she had anything more important to do? Lol) but she finally got the message across with someone at this store that I should get a refund. Kudos to Kolia for her terrific attitude and efforts to get that straightened out. So, on the following morning, I returned to the Lahaina Ace Hardware Store. I didn't want to wait until the refund offer was forgotten. I asked for the manager (I had no "Karen" attitude) and Myrar came to the checkout. I explained my reason for coming and it was obvious that she had no idea that I should be getting a refund. Someone left this manager out of the loop. Fortunately, after some friendly discussion, Myrar agreed that I should get the refund after I handed over my bag-o-bulbs. Thank you, Myrar, for making this so pleasant. I'm leaving my rating unchanged, because someone left it up to me to convince this nice lady to do the right thing.

Strong stuff... When…read moreyou get crafty many times I head to the hardware store as what I call beginner tools aren't just enough like I have my Dremel to drill, PVC pipes to make a photo backdrop, chains for a makeshift lock as being creative not only does saves you money but solves issues in the simplest ways that works. Today it was a simple just some acetone as I wanted to wipe off paint and the basic store bought stuff just won't do it and as small as this shop seems to be they do have it all and was very easy to find than the larger ones as it literally took me a minute to find it and a minute to reach to the register without a wait and was on my way faster than taking the needed pics to show off this great Kailua location. If needed staff is very easy to find here but as I knew exactly what I wanted it was okay and parking in the back is spacious with short walks to the automatic doors is just nice to have a quick spot to find exactly what you need without being lost as I finished my project so easily. Thank you!

FALSE LEADING PEOPLE TO THIS STORE IS ILLEGAL!…read more It's pretty stupid to advertise something on the ALAMAHA ACE HARDWARE website location when an item is not available to purchase (but shows plenty in stock). When you arrive to the store they tell you, "oh I don't know, the manager sells it, I don't know what time the manager arrives, he sells a little bit at a time." If that's the case, why does this store advertise on the website "available to purchase in store" if they're going to discriminate and decide who they want to sell to? False leading people into a store is ILLEGAL when the product isn't even available to purchase. False ADVERTISEMENT & WASTE OF TIME. Store policy has no respect for people's time & fuel prices.

I actually come here because within the store, you'll find a whole array of kitchen items and gadgets tucked away in a little corner. Growing up, I remember it used to be stocked with THE cutest Christmas items and decorations. I can't remember when the transition to kitchen goods happened, but adult me thinks it's great, lol. There are small appliances, high-quality knife selections, wooden utensils and plating, pots, pans, decorations and basically all the essentials that you would need for your home kitchen! You can also find some things here that you wouldn't normally find in other stores like an Ooni pizza oven, Japanese knives, and pretty tea sets. The ladies behind the counter are always so nice and helpful. On my last visit I was looking for items for an event and while I didn't find everything I needed, I found some cute bamboo tongs that were priced very reasonably. Other than the hardware, definitely stop in here sometime if you're looking for some kitchen goods too or maybe insulated Yeti bottles which line the wall at the entrance.

You can't miss the quonset hut that's been a fixture in the area for years. In addition to hardware, plants and gardening supplies, Kula Hardware also sports a small gas station and does household propane tank refills, perfect for an area that's growing fairly quickly yet has a lack of stores within the immediate area due to its accepted and expected rural-ness. The reason why we drive out of our way to come here is that they offer a better variety of trees, shrubbery, and seeds for sale compared to national giants Home Depot, Lowe's, and Walmart which are right in our backyard. We recently picked up an Ohia Lehua tree to plant in one of our yards. If you are looking for olive trees, this is your place! I was on a mission to find some of them back in 2007 right after our trip to Italy, and none could be found on the rock. Nowadays, they have plenty. They also sell different types of fruit trees including several varieties of apple and pear. OVERALL: Prices are competitive, service is friendly, and you're supporting local.

The City Mill stores are locally owned home improvement stores located on Oahu. Founded in 1899 by…read moreChun Kun Ai, there are presently 8 locations: Honolulu, Kaimuki, HI Kai, Kaneohe, Mililani, Pearl City, Waianae, and Ewa Beach. Chung Kun Ai was its president until 1961; then his youngest son, David managed it until 1991; and now David's son, Steven, serves as President and Chairman, assisted by his sister, Carol Ai May. City Mill HI Kai opened in 1993. It currently sells furniture, lumber, building materials, key making, propane refill, paint, jalousie cutting, electrical, tools, plumbing, window screen service, and more. How did it get its name? Prior to WWII, Chung Kun Ai owned the only rice mill in HNL and the largest in HI; hence, the name City Mill. After the war, City Mill focused mainly construction materials, but kept its name. While it cannot compare with the size of the big box retailer hardware stores and may be a little more in cost, we shop at city Mill due to the following reasons: * Local expertise and service. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable with the local unique needs and can offer advice and guidance on projects that must meet local building codes. While there were periods of staff shortages during and after Covid, we've found staff in their red aprons to be very helpful. For specialized projects and making of keys, hubby tends to ask older employees or seasoned workers, as they seem to know more and appear to focus on details. And when I was browsing through the aisles, several red-apron dressed staffed asked if I needed any help. Nice! * Community focus. City Mill partners with local community organizations and provides donations based on request. Via the Chung Kun Ai Foundation City Mill has given back to University of HI agricultural programs, Palama Settlement, Food Bank, churches, scholarships, and more. * Convenient locations. With 8 stores across Oahu, City Mill offers convenient access for residents and saves time and gas to having to commute to the big box retailers. * Curated selection. While City Mill's inventory is not as diverse and expansive as the big box retailers, its product selection is carefully chosen to meet the needs of homeowners. If you're undecided on what you're looking for, it's a good starting place to see what is available. They even have educational toys and inflatable pools (seasonal). City Mill also carries some of the home storage containers and kitchenware that new venture that the Ai Family started called Simply Organized in Kahala Mall. The layout of the store is well organized. * In-store pick up and delivery. Online ordering with in-store pickup and delivery make it easier to get its product. They also use the latest technology to track their inventory. * Community events. City Mill's Facebook page features events and promotions that highlight their products and connect with the local community. There are garden expos for demos and meet vendors, Father's Day Keiki workshop, anniversary specials, how-to workshops, product expos, hurricane preparedness, and more. * Energy efficiency focus. City Mill has partners with HI Energy to promote energy-saving products and rebates, such as water-saving tips. Hours of operation are daily from 7a to 7p. Located in the ewa end of HI Kai Towne Center anchored by Costco, Ross Dress for Less, and McDonalds, lots of free parking available that are shared by its tenants. As City Mill is by itself, parking is always available, esp when you have to purchase bulky items. You can use a separate exit when purchasing garden supplies or lumber. It is assuring to have a City Mill a couple of miles from my home! No need to spend unnecessary time and gas to drive to town to a big box retailer! And with helpful customer service, City Mill provides us with our home improvement needs. Support local!
