Because sadly the food did not live up to the reviews - And I was looking forward to their meals, so it was disappointing. Chicken Biryani is more like chicken fried rice with Indian spices. Biryanis don't have boneless fried Chicken cubes, but rice cooked with Chicken, usually bone in. Getting something like this from a fusion restaurant is great, but not from a South Asian place. They served the lunch box menu in a plastic container - I mean, if I am eating in, and paying a gratuity for the experience, is it that hard to serve in proper plates. I love that they offer spice level 1-10 so you can really have it how you like it. The only (very) odd thing about our food was that it seemed to be missing some things that were listed in the menu. For instance, the chicken korma description said it was supposed to have cashews and raisins. It had neither one. The chicken biryani was listed on the menu as having vegetables in it, but there were definitely no veggies in the biryani we had. It was just chicken and rice. This was my first time at this restaurant and it definitely won't be my last! I ordered the Taj Tandoori mixed grill and the garlic naan and both were very good! There was plenty of food and it was fresh and hot. The service was excellent! Multiple people checked in to ask how my meal was and asked if I needed anything. Everyone was very friendly and polite! The only thing I would say needs improvement may be out of the restaurant's hands: the air conditioning was not doing much and it was quite humid and warm inside. I have seen this place since I was a kid, and last night my wife and I tried it. Wow! Just wow! The chicken tikka lajawab was fantastic. The chicken was probably the most tender chicken I've ever had. You could cut it with a plastic spoon. The flavor of the cream sauce with the peppers and chicken was terrific. My wife got the biryani with spice at zero and it was too spicy for her, but she thought it was good. Her spice tolerance is extremely low, and the brought out an order of chicken curry for her without hesitation. I have had homemade biryani, and some places I've had it I didn't like it. Here, it was really good. More of an orange than yellow which is what I was used to, but that's probably why it was so tasty. The garlic naan was great, as well as the mango lassi's we had. Service was great as well. The ambiance is the only thing that could use a little sprucing up, but it was nothing of bother. I probably said "mmmm" a minimum of 20 times. I am looking forward to returning. $16.95 for something that delicious with a good portion is perfect. I got a rice bowl in Old Hilliard in the brewery area, and it was small, $13 and the beef with either a glob of fat (3 of them) or very tough and it had a weird potato salad in it. The potato salad was good, but didn't go with the food. Not much flavor, too. So, for service, we'll portioned delicious food, the price is great and we'll worth it. read more

I've been craving Indian food for a very long time but have no clue where to order around here. I looked at lots of reviews and settled on Taj Palace. I have to say I was quite disappointed with the portion and the price I paid ($23). I would've thought there would be way more chicken since the container that came was filled halfway up. All of the chicken you see on my plate is all of the chicken in the dish. The rest is just sauce! The other disappointing factor was that you can order spice levels 1-10. I ordered a higher level, but there was absolutely zero spice in the dish (I was hoping they'd bring the heat). Positive notes would be quite a large portion of rice was included with the meal and the garlic naan was pretty good. Will I order again from here? Maybe, not sure. I don't know how I haven't reviewed. I have dined in, and ordered carryout on several occasions. One time we went in to order carryout and sat at the bar for a drink while we waited. Last night I ordered carryout from the RW menu, and my husband went to pick it up (it's a 10 minutes drive for us). They have online delivery & carryout, but for RW, I ordered by phone. The young lady was super nice, and between ordering and pick up, it all went smoothly. We each had the Vegetable Pakora, which comes with 2 sauces, and Naan (traditional for me and Garlic for him). My go-to dish is Navrattan Korma, which wasn't a selection, so I got Chicken Tikka Masala, which my husband normally chooses. He branched out with Chicken Vindaloo. There was a large portion of rice to share. This was $20/pp, and it was a lot of food, leaving leftovers for today. We found a place we liked well enough so we attempted to order from there. My boyfriend made the best happy little accident and ordered from Taj Palace when he intended on getting it from somewhere else. Since then, we are getting take out twice a week from Taj Palace. I would give this place a 4.5 stars. I really liked their food, I had amazing lamb biryani, but their spice scale is a bit daunting. I got a spice level 7/10, and I could have probably gone with an 8. A 10-point scale is such a vast range though. Not a bad thing by any means though. Will go again. read more

We have been going to Taj Palace for a number of years and while the quality of their food originally started out as excellent, there has been a distinct downward trend in this regard over the last couple of years. The most aggravating factor is the inconsistency. One evening you might order food and everything is delicious and cooked to order. The next time you might order the same exact things and none of the spice levels will be as requested, and anything ordered mild is tasteless and might as well have been prepared in a water gravy. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, as it's beautifully decorated. The wait staff is also friendly and do an efficient job. We have been getting most of our meals as takeout since COVID, though, and that's about when the chef issues began here, with flavor inconsistency and spice level requests not being followed. My husband and daughter are both major chile heads and when they request top-level spicy, they mean it! I like milder dishes but even so I used to be able to expect and get an explosion of flavor from any entree ordered from Taj Palace. There are just too many good to great Indian restaurants in the Columbus area to settle for a place that's so hit or miss. Though very convenient to our home, we plan to drive a little further in the future to seek out other Indian places we can count on for consistently delicious food! read more

So they got rid of their buffet which is fine with me. I don't like a buffet necessarily. We had ordered Samosas to start. You get three for the appetizer dish. Really good. Our server brought us out some sauces there were three if them, a chutney, a onion something that was really spicy (and delicious) and a green sauce with some very thin, crispy bread. Yum! I got the non vegetarian bread and my friend got the tandoori chicken. We both loved our meals and had so much food! The tandoori chicken was really moist and flavorful. The Thali had a great sampling of food, a chicken, a goat, and a lentil dish plus rice pudding for dessert. Taj Palace is one of the many favorite Indian restaurants around Columbus. It has a great buffet for lunch and it's a fairly cheap one for being all you can eat. There's also an all vegetarian buffet on Tuesdays. It also has a menu with some good appetizers and beverages to complement your buffet items. There is pretty friendly and good service here too and they are happy to make recommendations. I always come for the buffet. I have never ordered off the menu so I can't say what I like on it. The lunch buffet has several vegetarian options, usually including biryani and soup. At about $9 it is reasonable for the amount of food you can eat. They also have a totally vegetarian buffet on Tuesday for a few dollars more, so that is worth checking out. It's also a nice looking restaurant inside so you could take someone here and still not pay that much. There is a full bar and they have several Indian beers. Another bonus is seeing into the kitchen. They have their tandoori oven right there behind the window so you can watch them cook your food. I recommend Taj Palace for cheap Indian food. It's nice and upscale looking inside so it's a good place for a nice meal. The staff is mostly friendly and will help you. read more
