The food was excellent, but I gave them only 2 stars due to the service. If you are male, ore going there with a male, you will probably love it.
After seeing the reviews, and being tired of Spanish food after 2 weeks, my friend and I decided to give Taj a try. I couldn't read the reviews, as I don't know any Spanish, but 5 stars is 5 stars.
It's a clean, bright space with a menu in both English and Spanish, and the prices are very reasonable, and its just a short walk from the Prado museum area. We went there around 9PM.
There were 2 other tables with patrons, both with 2 men at each, and then us, 2 women. The waiters were extremely attentive to the other tables, but I had to stare down one of them for over a minute to get him to take our drink order after having sat there for over 5 minutes. Again, there were only 2 other tables, and about 4 or 5 waiters working. They made sure to check on the other 2 tables each time a dish was brought out, and also that their water glasses were filled. Not only did we have to fill ours continuously, but we had to again, stare someone down, and wave them over to take our order, and then no one smiled at us the entire time we were there. While this may sound petty, it felt like an extremely sexist restaurant, which was such a shame, because the food was delicious.
We had the vegetable samosas and riata (sp? Yogurt, cucumber, and tomatoe) to start, both excellent. Then the chicken titka masala and prawn vindaloo with the rice with peas and onion naan. Every dish was excellent, and plentiful.
If you are a man, you should love it. read more
