The best Indian in Brisbane. Has been for as long as I can remember. Getting pricey but you get what you pay for.

The food is just heavenly. Haven't found an Indian restaurant around Brisbane that serves up more delicious food.

Taj knows where it's at! Every curry on this menu is the bomb, rich and thick. An Ashgrove institution.

Not sure if that's usual for a Sunday night but it worked in my favor. Placed my order and paid. Chose to sit outside, it was a nice night. Though the table is next to the road, it was a fairly quiet evening. Food was brought out within 10 minutes or so. Everything was hot. The naan was soft and pillowy. Rice was the perfect texture. The butter chicken was so good. And the sauce was just the perfect thickness. Also, I love when restaurants give a carafe of water so I don't have to ask for refills every 10 seconds.

I ordered the Patak Curry with rice for $10 which was really very good. Excellent flavor. My son (17) ordered the lemon grass chicken curry and he surprised me by not only ordering something I've never seen him eat (he's from Utah, USA), hell, he loved it, too!!!! As a side, we had the fish and chips. I know right? Odd offering from an Indian joint, but it was fantastic. Prices were right on par with everything else we've been trying. Granted, we aren't very high maintenance eaters, so it was all around the $10/ dish range, and with the currency conversion it worked out to about $8 US. They take credit cards, too. The service was great. They were pleasant and patient with our indecision about what we wanted. This being our last night in Brisbane we likely won't be seeing Masala Art again, but I'm damned happy we got to enjoy it once.

Last night when asking for a "super mild" palak paneer - that's what I got. There wasn't a trace of heat to be found in my dish, and truth be told the mild butter chicken that my dining partner had was void of any great heat too. Win. It's fairly standard take-away Indian and for less than $40 you can feed two with plenty of left overs. The rice is complimentary and naan isn't as oily as I've had elsewhere. The way I see it, this is a handy take-away to have in your list of "go-to" places on the nights you can't summon the energy to cook.

Tucked in beside Red Ocean Seafood and crouched meekly under some seriously thick tiled stairs, I think I glanced several times at the place before I even realized it was there; i.e.: Me: There's an Indian restaurant here now? Knowing Friend: It's been there for months, moron. Looking back, the bain marie out the front for take-away customers should have been a red flag. When I finally booked a table at Nataraja, I ordered the chicken tikka masala and my dining partner ordered butter chicken. (We were feeling giddy and reckless that night.) We sampled each other's food and agreed both dishes were pretty good. Actually, I disagree with my fellow people who say they love Indian food but actually mean Westernized substitutes: the best butter chicken in Brisbane is not at Miss India. Nataraja's butter chicken is tastier - less overflowing with cream - and probably a centimetre closer towards being actual real Indian food. The interior of the place is nice - darkish and elegant - and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful to the point where they can anticipate your next request. It's just a pity Nataraja is so hidden from the road and (if my deranged mind is any evidence) even frequenters of this Red Hill shopping village.

Five of us came here for dinner and two of us came early and they came by and served us water while we waited for the rest of our party. 3 of us ordered the Dhaba Special with butter chicken, lamb korma, and the chicken jalfrezi while the other two ladies ordered the chicken tikka masala and the fish madras. We all asked for spicy and the only one that was slightly spicy was the lamb korma which ended up being my favorite! With the Dhaba Special ($30 with minimum 2 people), you will also receive a small serving of chicken tikka and a vegetable spring roll as well as raita with several dips before your main comes. Come hungry because we already starting to get filled up but we persevered. The waitress was nice and asked us if we were ready for our mains before bringing them out. They brought out our rice in adorable bowl/cup. The curry was delicious, especially the lamb. Flavors were excellent with the almonds and spice. The butter chicken was a little sweet and then the chicken jalfrezi came with onions and capsicum was very tasty. The naan wasn't my favorite. It wasn't a little too thin for my taste. I am spoiled by traveling to India and living in Japan (yes, Japan has great Indian food!!). We were stuffed and couldn't finish all our food. Service was pretty nice. It was a bit cold and the door kept being left open by departing customers. After my friend got up from her seat and closed it five times, they started making sure the door stayed closed. They took all our food off our plate and didn't ask us if we wanted to take any home. You can BYO Wine for a $5 (per bottle) corkage fee. Great location in West End and would definitely go back.

I went with one of my friends who only likes Butter Chicken, so that is what we had, along with Naan Bread. Butter Chicken is always fantastic, and it was in this instance as well. It was a very enjoyable evening; I really have only good things to say about this place. The meals are moderately priced, around $20 for a dish. They offer excellently valued lunch specials so if you're lucky enough to be able to escape the office for a relaxed midday break, this is a great place to go.

It's not merely a takeaway, it's actually a large restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, but I use it purely for takeaways. Takeaway usually implies comfort food (or just sheer laziness) which means that I clearly have a favourite (and, embarrassingly) it's the only dish I've tried. But when they make it taste so damn good, why would I bother with anything else? Anyway, the chicken tikka masala (YES, ok it's the most commonly ordered item at any Indian restaurant, after butter chicken, but hear me out) is incredible and definitely beats chocolate in the comfort food department any day. You can choose your spice level, but the sweetness of the sauce balances the spice, providing overall warmth to the whole dish. Oh, and the garlic naan. I love it because it's not oozing in oil and is delicious with the subtle sweetness of the garlic. My takeaway menu is a permanent feature on my fridge (don't know why I have a menu to be honest), but I'm not sharing it so go in and get your own.

Halims is possibly one of the most delicious Indian restaurants and never fails to disappoint in regards to food, service and ambiance. I find myself getting takeaway from this place ever 2-3 weeks. The standout factor is obviously the food. I have ordered everything from the tandoori meats to the Biryani rice dishes. Most mains are offered in mild, medium, hot or 'Indian hot' depending on how tough you are. The two dishes I find myself always ordering are the 'Palak Paneer' and the 'Chicken Tikka Masala'. Pair one of these curries with one of their freshly cooked naan breads and you shall feel like royalty. Another thing I love about this place is the friendly service the place offers. Every time I have been there, the staff will welcome you with a smile. The Chef will sometimes come out of the kitchen to view the dining area to ensure his customers are enjoying their meal. It is little gestures like this that can make your dining experience much more memorable. I would recommend everyone to try this Indian restaurant in Rosalie. It is a wonderful restaurant that offers excellent food and service with a smile.

Moti and Baskins get our patronage, while the fitness centers get a sound mocking as we waddle back to the car, pondering the idea of waving the doggy bag and tubs of ice cream at the deprived souls running in place and bragging about it on Facebook. Yeah, us fatties make fun of you, too. From the outside, Moti Mahal looks small. To the point that you're surprised when you walk in and see dining tables set up and ready to seat you. Inside, you bet it's small, but even at peak dining hour (somewhere a wee bit north or south of 7pm) I've never seen the place crack half capacity out of our two trips. A steady stream of take away orders keep the chefs (dressed in street clothes) always on the go, as you walk in and choose your own table. Right off the bat, this won major points with me. The fiance and I hate getting seated next to another occupied table, so being able to select a table that strikes the perfect balance of socially low risk and plenty of room to fit all the food without cluttering up speaks to our shy and gluttonous natures. The menu is vast, with chicken, beef, lamb, seafood and a plethora of vegetarian options (the mark of a great Indian curry house) available, as is a generous list of entrees featuring the usual pakoras, papadums, tandoori chicken options and of course naan and roti bread. But is it any good? Sweet unicorn masala, yes it is! Jess, the aforementioned fiance, is new to Indian food. I converted her to a flag waving fan of Indian cuisine at Taj Mahal in New Farm. She ordered the same stuff at Moti Mahal and everything she tried blew Taj outta the water. Starting with a Chicken Tikka cooked in the tandoor oven on a big skewer, she made the face. That face of disbelief that starts with rolled eyes as if to say "Why am I only just trying this now!?". The spices and flavors were definitely prominent, but mild enough so that a newbie like Jessie could enjoy it without her throat burning. The ol' girl is mighty sensitive to that kinda thing, but she gave it the face and now craves it all the damn time! Fine by me, I had given up Indian food when we started going out, so I'm more than pleased two of my loves are mingling so easily together. Next up came the main course accompanied by a pair of naan breads (garlic and the fruit stuffed peshwari). Jess chose, and will choose to the end of time her Indian introductory curry, the innocent but oh so delicious, mild and dependable Butter Chicken. Not too rich, not too creamy, just perfect and bursting with flavor. Tip for the hungry; make sure you stab the pieces of chicken good now with the fork, otherwise you may just seperate a smaller portion from the mother chunk. Very tender, in other words. The two curries I chose were Chicken Korma and Bombay Aloo (a potato curry), both delicious and similarly flavorful yet light and inoffensive as I wanted Jess to sample more than just her old faithful Butter Chicken. The curries come with complimentary saffron rice, a practice pretty much every curry house adheres to...and they are quality on their own. But those naans put 'em over the top. Fresh outta the tandoor oven, the garlic, buttery aroma is so intoxicating, almost warranting "the face" before they've hit the table. Eat 'em on their own or as a makeshift fork for the curries. Doesn't matter, the naans (and curries for that matter) stand head and shoulders with any other Indian restaurant I've ever tried. Desserts are available, two options to be precise. Fried milk dumplings in a sugar syrup and kulfi, and Indian ice cream. The kulfi's dominant flavor is cardamom, which took Jess a little getting used to and the pilfering of my sugar syrup from the dumplings to make it work for her, but in the end, was a hit. The curries may look very conservative in size when they come out in those little steel bowls, but believe me, soaking it up with the naan and piling it on the rice will make it go a long way...all the way to your fridge back home, in fact! Where you can relive the tantalizing tastes and aromas once again with a zap of the microwave.
