tl;dr It's cheap and the food is acceptable, just don't plan on stopping by for a quick bite because service is very slow.
Plainly themed in white and orange, Taiwanese Express Meal presents a very simple store front. There are tables and chairs organised in front of a small service counter staffed by two young girls.
Make sure to bring a friend who can read Chinese or your unashamed courage to ask what everything is as English is used extremely sparsely on menus and signage.
What I did understand was "Set Menu" next to "$10"; the reason why we walked in the first place. We finally managed to understand that the set menu offers three choices between crispy fried pork strips, crispy fried chicken or a braised chicken option. All three come accompanied by a cold the drink of your choice and a bowl of rice topped with a sweet beef mince.
Service time was very slow. All of our meals arrived 15-20 minutes later and one by one. A few of our orders must have been made after a barrel of take away phone orders. With only two meals to arrive to our table, we watched many people arrive to pick up their take away orders being made before our order was completed.
The food is ok - similar to home cook, but not like eating out "home cook style" which tends to be better than home cooked.
If it wasn't for the good price, I probably would not have left somewhat satisfied. read more
