Costi's Fish and Chips - Greek octopus & rice (tender)

We were ready to eat some decent food after eating shitty food on AA from LAX-SYD. We had a 15 hr…read moredirect flight from LAX. The ladies at the front desk of our hotel recommended Canteen, a food hall near our hotel in Barangaroo. Canteen houses Costi's, as well as many other eateries, that appeal to many office workers. In addition, the area has many visitors to the nearby wharf area, where ferries take you around Darling Harbour. We ordered fish & chips, fried calamari, grilled Greek octopus & rice, and two types of salads (the latter, not pictured). The total was $52 AUD, or ~$34 USD based on exchange rates in Oct, 2025. Keep in mind, tipping is not expected in Australia vs the US, but most restaurants do charge approx 1.5% for credit card transactions. The food was already prepared. Nonetheless, bc we hit Costi's early (approx 11:30 am), everything was super fresh. The piece of NZ Hoki was massive, and the fish was moist and nicely seasoned. Likewise the chips were GBD and a large portion. Secondarily, the octopus was super tender, and had 3 skewers to an order. On the other hand, I could have done w/o the sauce and the brown rice. The latter was dry AF. Lastly, the pear salad had crunchy fresh pears, and the pumpkin salad had big chunks of tasty pumpkin. BTW, you have to pay AUS $1 for sauces. We opted for tartar and peri peri, that were both good. The guy who took care of us was super nice and friendly. Its a food hall, indoor and outdoor seating is available. I would definitely return to Costi's to support a local small biz. The food is very good, reasonably priced and the service is friendly.

For fast food fish & chips, it wasn't bad. It's not a place to make a point of going to, but if…read moreyou want battered fish & chips in this area, it's fine.

Costi's Fish and Chips - This tiny, greasy, limp, horrible "thing" is what passes for a fish "fillet" at Costi's.

Well, it was chilly and rainy as it has been the past couple of weeks, and it was quite anomalous that I was in the mood for seafood. So, I drove to Annandale with a couple of friends to try out Fish and Co., a restaurant with a solid reputation and close proximity to my apartment. All I have to say is that it was absolutely sublime. It was Friday night around 8pm and most of the tables were full. The dining area has a warm glow from the lights above, draped with delicate cloth (which looked a bit like Jellyfish). Solid wooden tables give a rustic feel with a simplicity that is all but comforting. Service was genuinely friendly, on point, and helpful. Our waitress suggested the fish of the day, a lovely Coorong Yellow Eye from South Australia. Everyone at the table decided to get it, as none of us had ever heard of this species. For a side, I chose the zucchini and snap peas, delicately stir-fried with mint and chili. My, my. I was blown away by the freshness of the fish, grilled to excellence, and the perfectly matched brightness of the zucchini. My appetite was without a doubt appeased, and I spent only $26. You must go to Fish and Co., which prides itself in being a sustainable fish restaurant. I'm going back tomorrow to try the beer-battered fish and chips.
