Everything was fresh, well presented and full of flavour. The coffee was excellent and paired perfectly with breakfast. It's easy to see why this café is so popular with both locals and visitors exploring The Rocks. The location is also hard to beat, making it the perfect place to relax before or after walking around the historic area. Great food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Sydney.

Inside wasn't bad, the table was big and the chairs comfortable. We were waited on immediately. Servers fly around like dancers, it's actually pretty impressive. Our food arrived in no time. My wife had fish and chips and I had lamb and rosemary pie. She enjoyed her meal. Mine was different than I've had before. It was still ok but I wouldn't order it again. Others would probably like it, it just wasn't for me. We didn't have any dessert but as you walk in the door they have some wonderful looking pies and cakes. Do yourself a favor and save room for one of those. I messed up and didn't try something. This is actually a really cool restaurant that I would like to try again. I wouldn't let one dish that didn't hit my taste buds keep me away.

The ladies at the front desk of our hotel recommended Canteen, a food hall near our hotel in Barangaroo. Canteen houses Costi's, as well as many other eateries, that appeal to many office workers. In addition, the area has many visitors to the nearby wharf area, where ferries take you around Darling Harbour. We ordered fish & chips, fried calamari, grilled Greek octopus & rice, and two types of salads (the latter, not pictured). The total was $52 AUD, or ~$34 USD based on exchange rates in Oct, 2025. Keep in mind, tipping is not expected in Australia vs the US, but most restaurants do charge approx 1.5% for credit card transactions. The food was already prepared. Nonetheless, bc we hit Costi's early (approx 11:30 am), everything was super fresh. The piece of NZ Hoki was massive, and the fish was moist and nicely seasoned. Likewise the chips were GBD and a large portion. Secondarily, the octopus was super tender, and had 3 skewers to an order. On the other hand, I could have done w/o the sauce and the brown rice. The latter was dry AF. Lastly, the pear salad had crunchy fresh pears, and the pumpkin salad had big chunks of tasty pumpkin. BTW, you have to pay AUS $1 for sauces. We opted for tartar and peri peri, that were both good. The guy who took care of us was super nice and friendly. Its a food hall, indoor and outdoor seating is available. I would definitely return to Costi's to support a local small biz. The food is very good, reasonably priced and the service is friendly.

I came in late afternoon on a Friday, was met by the host, and managed to score a table, even though I knew it was going to be busy. I was given water and a menu, ordered a cold beer, and looked over the menu. I came here for one thing- LOBSTER- and they had it! I ordered a medium lobster, as well as the Tasman Sea Octopus starter. My cold James Boags beer arrived, with a hot roll and butter. Followed by a plate of some of the best grilled octopus that I have ever had- tender, tasty, with a nice sauce. Then, the main event- a huge lobster, with all the delectable meat removed, cut up and placed back in the shell- so tender and so delicious, especially with the Shallot Butter! It came with chips and a salad, both perfect side dishes. I ate my lobster slowly, to enjoy every tasty morsel. I had a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc with it as well. Instead of dessert, I had a cheese plate. This place is great- I cannot recommend it enough. Both service and food are on point. I will come here every time I return to Sydney.

The new building is huge, modern, and incredibly clean. During our visit, we stopped by Getsashimi and ordered a variety of sashimi, including salmon, otoro, kingfish, and oysters. Everything was exceptionally fresh and literally melted in your mouth. We enjoyed it so much that we came back the very next day for more. If you're a seafood lover, this place is definitely worth a visit.

Wow, what a difference a year (and a change of location) makes! Visited the "NEW Sydney Fish…read moreMarket" on Jan. 22, 2026 - opening day at its new "modernized" location just across the water from the original location. And what a sad disappointment it was. The new location is. . . well, OK, newer. Other than that, it lacks the funky, stinky authentic charm of the original. Reminded me very much of a nondescript shopping center food court, but even more crowded. Although much larger in square footage than the original, the lines for each stall are horribly longer. Maybe it was just opening day snafus or a serious lack of planning, but the demarcation of the lines for each stall was a complete mess. Sometimes hard to tell which line was for which stall and sometimes you were shoulder-to-shoulder with people in line for a different stall. Oh, and to pay the new rents the price$$$ of everything have gone up. You can actually go to a comfortable sit-down seafood restaurant and pay the same, if not less, as what you will spend for the privilege of standing in line, juggling paper containers of food and drink, and praying that you might find a table at which to eat. Speaking of which. . . it seems the new location actually has fewer tables than the original. People were circling about like hawks just to snag a spot on the stairs to SIT. Nothing like juggling seafood and beverages on your knees to make you ask yourself, "Why the f#@k am I even here doing this?" As I sat doing just this I stared at the closed original seafood market across the way with nostalgic longing. Adding to the pandemonium are the hoards of slow, elderly Chinese tourist groups in their matching colored outfits (or state-issued uniforms ?), each member posing for selfies with fish [aren't there fish in China?], and clogging up the nearby tram station. So much for "progress?"
