So this company has some nostalgia for me and my family. This is the branch of Taisuco (Taiwan Sugar Company) that merged with McClellan Botanicals to jointly research and grow orchids. Now I absolutely LOVE orchids; I have three sitting here on my desk at work and they're all absolutely gorgeous (at least the blooming ones!).
Now all this ties back to my beloved late grandfather... He worked at the sugar plant in Taiwan at Taisuco when they solely refined sugar from the sugarcane. My dad grew up playing in the sugarcane fields with my uncles. Along with managing a sugar company, my grandfather had an absolute love of orchids which he passed down to me. He would grow rows upon rows of orchids in his greenhouse in Taiwan. The house would consistently be filled with blooming orchids. I don't think there was ever an orchid plant he couldn't coax to bloom. Sadly, after he passed away, his orchids seemingly also lost their ability to bloom.
All in all, I love the quality of the orchids offered by Taisuco America. Their blooms last FOREVER! I gave one to my mom that is still going to this day... and the blooms that were on the plant when I first bought it 7 months ago are still on there!!!
The only thing I really regret was never finding out my grandfather's secret in keeping the orchids in bloom and how he managed to cultivate so many different ones.
I think Bay Area Costcos carry fresh potted orchids from this farm and vendor and it's definitely worth it to check out! read more
