But, even we talked that he will bring the dimmers since he already mentioned the ones I got might not work, he forgot to bring them. He can forget, I understand that so we talked and he said he will come again, buy the dimmers and place them. Well, he forgot twice, I made him remember 3 times, he stopped messaging and communicating. I understand these things are time consuming for them but if he promises, he should accomplish the job. That part I am not happy with it, now I am going to go for another electrical contractor. Wanted to let all know about his communication on this issue.

Short version- professional, knowledgeable, great problem solving!…read moreLong Version- David demonstrated patience and problem solving in the extreme for an ongoing and challenging electrical problem in my son's bedroom. The breaker was intermittently and frequently tripping. We had paid another company 2 years prior, over $1000 to rewire my son's room including running new lines form the basement breaker because they couldn't seem to isolate the problem. We thought it was fixed, but 2 years later, the problem started again. The other company was too busy to come back to deal with the work they had done, so based on a referral, we called David. He tested everything, and was quickly able to isolate the plugs that were causing the issue (something the other company never did!). He suggested we leave them disconnected for a while to see if this was the cause of the problem. He was right! Because all the other plugs were working fine for the past 2 years, we never got around to calling him back to rerun the wires for those 2 plugs until this year, when we noticed a terrible smell coming from an outlet on the other side of my son's room. After opening and disconnecting the plug, he determined that there was probably a dead animal in the wall! David was kind enough to help us cut out the drywall to see what was there. For safety, he also disconnect all the other plugs on that line. Once that was done, he further helped us to open the wall, where we discovered a very smelly and disgusting mess! Squirrels had chewed a hole through our roof, got into the exterior wall of my son's room, then chewed a hole through the cement board and got into the insulation in the space between the cement board and the drywall. While they were in there, they also chewed the wires and electrocuted themselves. David went above and beyond in helping us to open up the wall and make sure we got everything out (4 dead squirrels- yuck!). He also made sure he disconnected all the plugs connected to the chewed wire on our upper level. He has now rerun all the wires, checked that it is all working. For insurance and safety, he also called an inspector to check everything. He will be reactivating the the plugs where the wires were replaced once the drywall is redone. He will also send pictures to the electrical inspector for final approval. We are very grateful that we finally had an electrician who was willing to stick with us to fully figure out the problem and fix it! We would highly recommend his services to anyone!

I read all the negative reviews but was attracted by the online price of a mini-chandelier that was not available anywhere else in T'O. Don, the salesperson at the Mississauga store, took my order and told me that it would take several weeks to order. He would email me when the fixture arrived. Estimated date of arrival: Nov. 24. I asked to pick up the fixture at the Spadina store. Don wrote it on my receipt. In mid-Dec., I called the Spadina store to confirm that the chandelier had arrived. I had not received any email beforehand. The clerk had no record of the order. He could not find it on the computer. I called Don at the Mississauga store. He took down my info and said he would look into it. More than 6 hrs went by and still no answer from Don or anyone else at Ultra Lighting. I needed the fixture - my electrician was waiting. I called again. Don said that he had called the supplier and that the supplier had no record of the order!! WTF. I asked for a refund. He said I could go to the Mississauga store to process the refund. I asked him to simply do it himself and gave him my credit card number. He agreed and said he would send me either a text or an email when the refund was processed. 3 days have gone by. The refund has been posted to my credit card account. No email from Don. Why do people say they will do something and then, fail to do it? I'm just glad I used a credit card for the deposit. Otherwise, it might have been difficult to get my money back.

When we discovered two of them were defective and returned them to exchange for two replacements, it was a different story. Very condescending and snarly. He actually gave me back one of the ones I had returned and I had to do a repair on it myself, when I got home. It really is a stupid way to be. This was the first of many lighting replacements we need to undertake in our home and he has lost any of our future business.

Above Standard Renovations & Electrical Services came to our home today and completed two projects…read morefor us. Mike and his electrician Paul arrived before 8:00 AM, a half hour early and got right to work. From start to finish Mike and Paul were both very friendly, easy going and helpful in adding value where they could. Mike said he adjusted the front door so it wouldn't close as hard. His electrician Paul rewired my office to change a switchable outlet into a regular always live outlet and install a fan for the wall switch to control instead of the outlet. Mike took care of fixing the mess of caulking Roger Lockie of R. Lockie Carpentry did around the tiles of our new bathroom renovation. This person obviously does not know how to do tile work and made other messes around the trim that borders the tile edges. In that initial tile job, there was no grout done in the joints of the tile, only caulking that was completed cracked in all joints between walls and between tub and walls. Above Standard went out and found another brand of caulking that matched much better than the ones they already had on hand. Mike did a fantastic job of removing the mess of previous caulking and applying the new caulking into the joints with an absolute artist's touch, with no cracking this time. He also removed the unsightly caulking job done along the trim. Mike also fixed plenty of drywall imperfections left behind by the previous "contractor" mentioned above. Not only that, Mike and Paul cleared the drain in the bathroom off my office so that it drains at a normal rate. As you can see, Above Standard really is above standard and I would not hesitate to refer them to anyone who wants quality home renovations done in a timely fashion, but done right. I will be calling Mike for another project soon, this time a painting project up a high stairwell.

I've been to my fair share of antique shops where the owners hang over you like vultures, guarding…read moretheir hoards of stuff. But that is simply not the case when it comes to this lovely antique lighting store. It's a clean, organized shop run by a welcoming patron who knows a lot about the history of the area. It's not overly big, so things are easy to find-- glittery chandeliers, Tiffany style lamps, Art Deco wall sconces-- and nothing is caked in dust (you can actually SEE the lights!). Prices range depending on what you're looking for (as expected), but there's no problem finding the price as delicate tags hang about the room above you like snowflakes. Oh, and don't hesitate to ask him to turn all the lights on. It's spectacular to see everything lit up (even better, go at dusk for an even better view).
