My 15-month-old has been attending the programs here for more than 10 months. They have done a spectacular job socializing and training her, first at the puppy socials and then graduating into Mini-Day School as a teenager. She now weighs 115lbs+ and is an active and intense mix of breeds. Because of David (positively the most patient person on the planet) and the supporting staff here, she is well behaved at home and in public. I constantly get compliments about her general manners and also behavior around other dogs. People are often surprised about the command I have over such a large and strong dog. I think things would have been a nightmare for us without this program. Tailored has not only worked with her directly, but they have educated me about ways to work with her on my own. I can't imagine getting another puppy without sending them through this program. These classes are always a priority in my schedule. Myself and my 4 month puppy Charlie have been loving Tailored Dog Training! We've been doing the puppy social hours and puppy manners classes for a few months now and have seen great results! I'm a new dog owner.. a puppy! IT IS WORK! I rescued my puppy at 3.5 months. He previously lived with his litter mates so he was used to constant play. When I got him, he still needed his second round of shots so I couldn't take him out to play/socialize unless I knew the dogs were vaccinated/safe area. He was getting antsy, obviously missed playing with his brothers and sisters, growled at the vet when getting neutered, etc. I found Tailored Dog Training that gives puppies not fully vaccinated a safe space to play and socialize. My first visit was a socialization hour ($30) WITH an hour of light training (another $35) (second hour is optional). This is a drop off/pick up situation. They have a Facebook live stream so you can watch your puppy play/train. Very important to see how your puppy interacts with other puppies. Since it was Charlie's first time out and about in awhile, he was obviously shy at first then warmed up and played with the others. He was so happy! They usually give you feedback when you pick up, especially if there's an issue to work on. Charlie was sometimes takes play too far and not understanding when the other dog doesn't want to play. But with the trainers there, they redirect him, work with him to learn to stop when needed. He's gotten much better at reading other dogs. Puppy socialization hour is his favorite part of the week! He comes out smiling so big! See picture. More about the social hour, they separate by dog size: small and larger pups. So small dogs aren't intimidated by the larger ones. The second hour training was great! I was impressed how quickly he learned his name, COME and impulse control with food. These commands we use everyday and I'm glad it stuck with him so fast! We only included the training once because we've started the puppy manners classes with Charlie. I do intend on including training in the future if he needs to polish some skills. We about half way through puppy manners classes. It was I believe $195 for five weeks, 1 hour every Tuesday of training. Owners stay for this one. You go over all the basic commands, impulse control, potty, crate training, etc. Everything to get your puppy on the right foot. I've been enjoying it so far! Having a puppy can be overwhelming but this course makes it easier- easier to train, ask questions to the trainers along the way, have them observe/help, use training methods that work! Charlie has gotten so much better on walks, meeting people, meeting other dogs, new sights/sounds. From barking, growling, pulling, jumping to no barking, no growling, occasionally pulling (working on it), much less jumping. I've gotten so many compliments how well trained he is! I signed up for this class & attended one session, I ended up having a family emergency and so I didn't attend the rest of the 6 sessions. Due to my family emergency I've found myself in slight financial hardship and thought getting close to $200 back for a service I didn't use could help (I paid 230.00 for 7 sessions & only wanted the money back for the 6 sessions I didn't attend). So I asked the owner if she could please offer me a refund due to me not using the service due to a family emergency, she responded saying she would not give me a refund, didn't ask if I was ok, my family was ok, or even if my dog was ok, nothing. I asked her if she could please find it in her heart as I am not in a financial place to loose that much money, that it would show her company much integrity and understanding, especially since I didn't use her service and I even asked for her to deduct the cost of the single class that I did attend, she never responded, never offered a refund. We're supposed to look out for each other in this society, if I ran a business and someone came to me explaining what happened & why they didn't use my service I would most definitely do anything I could to help, not take someone's money for a service they didn't use and turn a blind eye. She could have even offered to refund half or anything at all but no she just completely ignored me, took my money for a service I did not use and showed complete disregard for another human beings struggles. I would never bring my business here again nor suggest anyone else to for this matter alone. I may have been in a temporary financial hardship but that won't last forever and when I do regain my footing and look to get my dog back in classes, I definitely will not be coming here. Multiple times a day I get stopped and asked what I did that my dog is so well trained. My secret is Tailored Dog Training. We brought home our first dog ever (a Vizsla) last spring and right away started sending him to puppy socials at Tailored. After the puppy socials, I opted for the socials that included training, and from there I sent Winston to Mini Day School. Winston has petfect recall, which is why I get asked so often how I trained him. Of course, it takes a lot of practice to reinforce the training he's received, but it wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful trainers at the Concord facility. For mini day school, they send home report cards which were very informative but also soo cute. The socials are excellent as well because you can watch a Livestream so you're actually seeing how they're doing the training -- I learned more from those than any celebrity trainer book or YouTube video. Winston runs about 12 miles a day while we bike, and it doesn't matter where we are, people stop us in awe of how well behaved he is -- we've had lifelong dog parents stop us and even people who don't even like dogs! Winston's name has preceded him in our neighborhood, because strangers stop us to ask if he's the dog they've heard about who runs a lot and is so well trained! What I loved most about Tailored is how much the trainers love the dogs. They truly seem invested in the well-being of the dogs and want to see them succeed. That coupled with their expertise seems to be why Winston responded to them so well -- Winston LOVED Tailored. We're getting another Vizsla this fall and will absolutely be taking her to Tailored, though we don't anticipate she'll need as much training since we know she'll learn such good habits from Winston. Maybe I came in with too high of expectations after hearing so many amazing recommendations for this training facility. I know many people who take/took their dog here and loved it. Unfortunately this was not our experience. I brought my 5 month old puppy here. He had never barked at other dogs before. But after sitting in this class, being so severely over stimulated he now reacts to dogs while on leash by barking. The trainers really did nothing to help, and more made me feel uncomfortable about the fact my dog was showing negative behaviors... In a training class for manners... Due to it being inside, there just is not room to spread out and give our dog space from others. I decided to try again the next week and brought my fiancé, thinking maybe I was just being sensitive or overly critical. He also agreed with me that the trainer really did not have any depth of knowledge on dog behavior. A few people asked questions about behaviors and the trainer seemed to just repeat from a script she was suppose to say. It was very disappointing paying so much for a trainer who really was not educated on dog behavior. I was hoping going to a facility they would at least know more than me? But with this woman, it just was not the case. I joined my friend up in Sacramento today for their puppy class, and with in a few minutes my puppy no longer barked at other dogs, was focused on me the whole time and came out of the class being so much more confident, and the trainer really came over and spent time with us. I've been bringing my 5month old hunting puppy to Puppy Manners Class and Puppy Socialization. My puppy knows the commands they're teaching at puppy manners class but it is a great test to see how well he can focus in an environment with distractions. I am very pleased with how the class is taught and can see other owners and their puppies learning. I do plan to bring my puppy to adolescent and adult training as well! Drop off puppy socialization is AMAZING! I love that the puppies can play and run with constant monitoring from staff and owners can watch remotely. Having to socialize a puppy during quarantine was very difficult and am thrilled TDT accommodated those pet parents who knew they little one needed some special attention especially during the critical moments of life. I cannot recommend Ally and Tailored Dog Training highly enough. We rescued a puppy and he ended up have a lot of fear and anxiety. By the time we were told he suffered from fear aggression, he was almost four months old. I emailed Ally in the middle of the night and she responded first thing in the morning. She assured me she could help and I was immediately relieved. We started the puppy social that week. Rookie was so insecure and scared that Ally put him by himself but where he could watch all the other puppies. This allowed him to slowly get comfortable with the new surroundings and the other puppies. It took a few weeks but he eventually started playing with another dog. Rookie has been slow to work through his issues. Ally has been patient with him and with me. She teaches only positive reinforcement and counter-conditioning. She taught me that we have to work at Rookie's pace and be careful not to flood him with triggers as this could cause setbacks. He now attends the day camps and has continued to make progress. Rookie is still unsure of men. David, one of the trainers, has slowly been building a relationship with Rookie. He is careful not to push Rookie and he is now able to work directly with Rookie. I have to admit there have been times I thought Rookie was too much to handle. Ally has answered every email quickly and has even called me when I was feeling overwhelmed. I was able to set up a consultation within a week and a half in the month of December, and Christine arrived on time as scheduled. She was more than helpful and our pup felt comfortable around her immediately. She was able to show us some simple commands giving us some new tools to help control teenage puppy age. She also suggested since I had mentioned our pup seemed shy around other dogs their Puppy Socials during the week. They run and hour and there's a private Facebook group where you can see the puppies on live video feed during the hour, since you're unable to go inside the building at this time. For our girl they kept her in a separate space with only 3-4 puppies at a time at the most, give our girl a chance to feel comfortable and acclimate. They were so kind to her too. We had our initial consult and three private lessons with Sarah at their training facility for our border collie. Sarah is friendly and easy to work with, has a wealth of knowledge and is experienced with the breed plus our dog absolutely loves her!! We started our now eight-month old Golden Retriever puppy at Puppy Socials here when she was just nine weeks old on the OK of our veterinarian. She completed Puppy Basics and began Novice 1 when health issues here at home precluded being able to attend regularly. I have to say we've been very impressed. Ally and Nicole are the trainers we've worked with, and both are just as good with humans as they are with dogs - and having worked with trainers for twenty years, I can say this isn't always the case. My husband isn't as comfortable or confident about handling dogs as I am, and Ally and Nicole have easily worked with that in the context of managing every kind of pup and human in class all at the same time. The facility is always spanking-clean, and they have a nice selection of treats and toys for sale (our two Goldens especially love the "No-Hide" chews). I wanted to start doing the drop-in weekly dance class with our pup, and then the Covid-19 restrictions made it necessary to hold off on that. Knowing how critical early socialization is to the healthy development of a wonderful adult dog, Ally figured out how to do drop-off Puppy Socials, that includes a Facebook Live feed so you can see your pup play. They've added drop-off training as well. This is great thinking on her part; it not only keeps her business alive during this challenging time, but assures that pups can get their needs met safely. We can already see that being in a different setting with different dogs and different humans is really beneficial for our puppy - it isn't any better for her to do the same things with the same two humans day after day than it is for the humans! We get a verbal update when we fetch her, along with a follow-up email. We're so happy to have found such a great place ten minutes from home. The trainer was good but I didn't get the training I was seeking for my dog. He knew all the tricks taught prior to going to the classes. I was hoping to learn how to teach my dog from not pulling. I used the " touch" method but it doesn't work when he really wants to go. Also wanted him to be less afraid of people and things but that was not taught. We got a new pup from ARF and he was a little...weird. He was anxious, he barked at everyone, trembled at times, lunged at other dogs, he was a mess. I knew I needed help so he could gain confidence. I researched dog trainers and decided to go with Tailored Dog Training due to their great reviews. We had an initial visit with Nicole Kelleher. Luka barked at her the whole time she was in our house. So of course we signed up for six private training sessions. Nicole was kind, calm, patient, and obviously loves her job. She explained Luka's actions were due to fear and anxiety. We just needed to change his point of view. She told us about supplements for anxiety, taught us how to work with Luka, sent us videos about what she taught us, and met us in different places to see how Luka would do in real life situations. She even brought her stuffed dog out and "walked" it around the park to see how Luka would react. As Luka progressed, she brought her real dog Biscuit by to work on Luka's reactivity. Our crazy dog is still a little crazy. I am no longer afraid to walk him and come across another dog, however. I can take him out in public, watch how he acts before he reacts, and work with that. I can't thank the people at Tailored Dog Training enough. My young doberman mix, Koa, was a good dog but VERY energetic. I first hired Ally to do private training, because I didn't have a good experience at ARF in their puppy classes-- it was such a negative experience for me that I actually left most classes in tears. Koa responded very well with the private training and Ally suggested signing up for training classes at Tailored (promising me that I wouldn't cry from frustration!), so I did. The way that the classes are structured and set up is great, the dogs get a little area that has the sides covered so that they can't be distracted by the other dogs (Koa's problem in the past), but the dogs go individually into the larger area to practice the skills. The puppy classes are set up the same way, but they have play time at the end. Koa learned his skills well, we took several classes and he passed his Canine Good Citizen test, something that I didn't think that he would achieve. We took about 4 different classes at Tailored and remember specifically that initially it was difficult because I was being Thor in for training by myself when others usually came in with a partner, which at first made some of the drills and training difficult. Wow. What an awful experience. Signed up for a private lesson and discussed our dog's issues. It was suggested that he attend their 2hour mini school a few times a week. Said they took unneutered dogs so I signed up for 8 sessions. Our boy attended the first 2 sessions and had some issues (mainly humping so he needed to be kept on leash, which we were fiwith. That is what we call TRAINING!). Since this is dog training one would expect that some issues might need to be worked on? That is why we paid them 100's of $$ for classes!!! They suggested that we hold back his food and bring chicken breast to the next session to help with training, which we did. So I drive 45 min to get to his scheduled and paid for his 3rd mini school session and I was met at the door by a "trainer" and basically told he was not welcome there. No apology at all. I was told that somehow I was supposed to know that all of his sessions were rescheduled to a few private lessons instead. How am I supposed to know this?? If someone had called me and discussed in a concerned manner that our dog would be better suited to private lessons and would transfer our prepaid lessons to private leasons, great. But they don't care about the individual dogs and their owners so I never received any communication from them except he was not welcome at class when we showed up at the door for class. It seems that there is a true lack of communication, professionalism and caring and professionalism at this facility. If your dog is well behaved and flawless, you are welcome. But if there are any challenges, forget it. I am very glad I found this out before I left him for more sessions and entrusted them with my dog. I will look further for more reputable and capable trainers. read more

Our pandemic dog is a social butterfly and we owe a lot of it to Tailored Dog Training. Yes, like a lot of others, we decided that getting a dog in the pandemic would be a very good idea as we were home all the time and could finally raise a puppy (maybe the best timing we would ever have). But what we sadly realized in no time is that we really needed to socialize our dog and that part proved to be very difficult in a pandemic... until we found the Tailored Dog Training puppy socials. This was a life-saver as me and my partner, personally, were trying extra hard to be very safe for ourselves and others during the pandemic. Our puppy was able to play with many other puppies his age multiple times a week and was exhausted when he came home, we also did the extra hour in which they did a little 1-1 training. This attributed to his independence, his non-existent fear/aggression towards other dogs, and his friendliness towards anyone/everyone. As well, they livestream it and watching our puppy socialize brought us so much glee. (Note: they can take your puppy as soon as they get their first/second round of vaccines and are a week out from it - and they do their due diligence to make sure all other pups are vaccinated as well) Now that he was very social and friendly (our #1 priority), we decided to take it a bit further and do some 1-1 training with Nicole. She was able to teach us techniques on how to train his leash walking, recall, not jumping on guests, and some really cute tricks. We got to train from home or train close to us at a local park. It was great to get this time just to ask a lot of questions as well and make sure we could continue this for a while. What I really like about Tailored Dog training is that they use positive reinforcement rather than other methods which is our preference as well. Now that we are both fully vaccinated, we plan to bring our pup to the in person group classes as he has really mastered the 1-1 training but needs more distraction training and being around other dogs/people. read more

Rude. I signed up for any trainer and paid the fee. They canceled and said that they don't have the trainer I selected to come to my house in Concord but I can go to the Concord facility. Seriously? You can't come to Concord but you're already in Concord. No thanks. They offered me to come to the faculty for groups. No thanks! If I wanted that I would have requested that. The whole point is I wanted a private consult. Sorry if that is not convenient for you to come to Concord?? I do mean cancelled and NOT rescheduled. Totally blew me off. I could have rescheduled but nope! They didn't give that option. If I wanted a group I had a lot more options than just you to spend my money. Obviously you don't care about people. I am less than 2 miles from your place and you advertise private sessions in my area and beyond. I feel like it was a total bait and switch. I will not risk myself going into a public group during a pandemic. Shame on you. Update in response: Then why advertise on your website and waste people's time and money if you have no intention of going less than two miles away from your facility? Seriously. I signed up since it specifically said my city. I selected anyone. I was fine with whoever. I don't know what you keep saying the person i selected when I didn't select anyone! We brought home a 14 wk old Tibetan Terrier. We needed to have her in a crate but she wasn't having it. She screamed, not barked, whined or howled literally screamed, bit and clawed at the crate and panted even while sleeping. I couldn't leave the room for a second or she would loose it. I was so stressed that I considered returning her to the breeder but I wanted to give it my best try so I emailed Tailored Dog Training on a Friday. Ally emailed me back within 2 hours and we arranged for a phone session. She was so nice and gave me some very helpful things to do. My puppy went to bed in her crate Friday night with a bit of struggle but with the tips given she calmed down and by 11:00 she was sleeping. She woke up and yelped a few times for a short bit but by early morning she was fine and had a 4 hour stretch of sleep! This, for me, was a miracle. I had hope and could see a future with this puppy. I continued to do the things that Ally recommended, it is now Sunday morning and our baby has minimal issues with being in her crate. Ally came by the week before we brought Gizmo home and gave us great pointers on potty training, brain games, feeding schedules and healthy treats. The information she armed us with really made our first few nights with Gizmo seamless. Ally came by after we had Gizmo for a few weeks and helped us with some basic tricks and crate training. Gizmo really responded to Ally from the moment she walked into the door. She just has an incredible way with dogs. Gizmo went on to do group classes with Ally, some additional one on one training and even spent a full day with her a few months back working on daily training (like being around kids, leave its, and so much more). Ally is pleasant to work with...she really knows her stuff. Plus she gives you great insight into your dogs behavior. I am so thankful we found her last year. It made all the difference in the world. We get compliments on Gizmo's behavior all the time--and while we do work with her daily, Ally is really the person to thank! She laid some amazing ground work from day one. I am So happy to have found this professional and fun dog training facility located close to me! I have been bringing my super high energy (and sometimes rather vocal) 11 month old German Shorthair Pointer puppy, Mika, to Tailored Dog Training since she was about 4 months old. Mika enjoys going as much as I do! We look forward to the thoughtful support and individualized instruction during and after all the classes, and we have taken quite a few- including Puppy Preschool, Tenacious Teenagers, Focus work, Loose Leash Walking, Agility, Recall class, Intro to Nose work, and Nose work Level 2. The classes are always followed up with a helpful and detailed e-mail reviewing what we did in class and giving us relevant activities to work on at home. I also had a series of 3 private training classes in my home to get more individualized instruction and practice in a one on one setting. It really helped for Ally to see the actual way I was handling Mika in my home, and she offered insightful suggestions based on her observations and Mika's age and stage of development. I am so impressed with the genuine caring, along with the knowledge and creativity of all of the trainers I have worked with, and its clear that they really love what they do. I have worked most closely with Ally Lantis, and Sarah Forde and no situation that Mika has presented has been too challenging for them. They are always available to answer any questions for me and truly help me see the bigger picture. I have an almost year old black lab puppy. He is smart and energetic. Have done two separate series of classes. Had a couple or so private lessons and my dog has attended the Mini Day School. A 2hr session with small group or dogs and several trainers. I all circumstances I have felt supported in my training efforts ( really important due to my age and problems with hearing loss!). Feedback and follow up is consistently good. Especially enjoying trainer Shelley Get a written report from Mini Day School and a written recap of disciplines practiced in classes. Special regard to individual needs of each dog at every session. Great value for money. Classes fill quickly but alway something for every dog. They say "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" but this dog owner of 50 years has definitely learnt some knew ones and been made to feel more confident because the expert guidance and kindness YES. Best dog training in the area in my opinion. I have used Tailored Dog Training for many purposes and am very pleased! I did a private consultation with the owner, Ally, with one of my dogs (Darby, a boxer, pit bull mix) so that I could understand him better. He has been reactive to dogs in certain circumstances, anxious, and suffered from separation anxiety. Ally helped me understand Darby's triggers, comfort levels, and his preferred boundaries with other dogs; how I could best recognize the subtle signals he was giving, and how I could best manage Darby's life to make him comfortable, confident, happier, and fulfilled. Darby also attended their Reactive Dog class, which in a very controlled and safe environment, allowed more work on the above goals. This allowed Darby to be able to participate in some of their 'regular' classes. I have also brought my 85 lb American Bulldog, Bo, to various classes because he loves training and is an eager student. He has even taken the beginning agility class! He might be slow and lumbers through but the teachers love his enthusiasm, personality, focus, and unique charm. I appreciate that they care about their canine students and strive to provide a good experience for every situation. Nicole has been such a great resource for me and my new dog Willow! Willow is very fear reactive and has been working on building confidence, and my first session with Nicole gave us so much to work on. Before, Willow would bark and run away when we approached people in public, and now she willingly goes up with a wagging tail. We are still working on her reactivity in the house, and Nicole has been so helpful even weeks after our initial session. She has continued to offer resources and support throughout my process working through Willow's behavioral issues, and has been so helpful!
