Food glorious food! Cocktails and room with a veiw of the sunset over the Bay of La Paz. Where so many visitors and locals go to dine and embibe. It had been 15 years since my last visit and glad we put it on the top of our dining list. In between seasons, it was a quiet evening but things will pick-up soon. The staff was so welcoming and provided great service. We started with house chips and salsa - of course! I enjoyed fish tacos with fresh sea bass. Three big tacos - one went home for lunch the next day. An order of nachos was too much to finish. I had a Margatita with Jamaica - so refreshing. Mike enjoyed Mai Tais. We arrived fairly early so we could watch the sun go down. More guests arrived later. Tailhunters has been a mainstay on the La Paz Malecon for many years. AVOID! Horrible Management! I am a Certified Top 1% TripAdvisor Pro and also leaving a bad review there too. We were a Party of 13 and they made us climb tiny stairs to the second floor whilst the entire restaurant was empty on a Friday night. That should have been the first sign to avoid this place. The assigned 2 waiters to 1 table and both didn't speak English. We ordered a blended Pina Colada and they wouldn't understand. Are you kidding me? Next, we placed orders and they got 4 of the 13 orders wrong. For example, our son eats his burger plain. They brought it with cheese after about 30 minutes on a night with no other customers. We complained. Then, the manager comes and raises his voice with us saying we said "with cheese." Okay buddy, we have been ordering our food the same way for many years. Just accept your mistake and re-make; but he raises his voice and gets aggressive. BEWARE! Avoid! We ordered Tecate Regular and they brought Tecate Light. Then they get upset and raised their voices to us. Not acceptable. They would not accept fault in messing up the orders yet the manager had the tenacity to raise his voice and yell at our party. Back from another awesome fishing trip to La Paz with Tailhunter International.  It was my girlfriend's 4th trip down and she's digging it more every year.  On the first day, Captain Victor took no time to put us on a half dozen dorados at Las Arenas. My girlfriend even bounced her first 10-plus pound fish onto the deck.  Before the day was over, she reeled in her first Marlin.  Two great firsts for her.  On the ride back to the hotel, we met a new buddy from Ventura who'd never had a bite at the Tailhunter Cantina over the 20 years he's been coming down.  When we convinced him that Jonathan and Jilly have the best shrimp tacos in La Paz (and San Diego for that matter), he just had to try them.  Sure enough, after we cleaned up and walked down to the Cantina, we see our new pal enjoying what he described as "the best tacos ever"! We fished the La Paz side on the second day.  Captain Joel effortlessly had us on 10 pretty acrobatic mahi mahi.  Girlfriend was exhausted and famished after fishing so off to Tailhunter for drinks and the best tacos in La Paz.  Of course our new pal from Ventura had just finished up a plate of tacos by the time we arrived.  The third day of fishing was kinda short since we had to run back to the hotel and pack up for the flight home.  So Captain Joel quickly found four dolphin fish for us to bag along with a Cabrilla and a Pargo.  Not shabby at all for a quick dip in the water. I was really convinced to give it a try because they have a fishing show on YouTube. I convinced myself that I was going to have the best fish taco in town. I was a bit disappointed as it tasted like it had been frozen for days and really had no flavor. I am one to give places a second chance I just have not gotten myself to go there yet. This was about six months ago. They sometimes have bands playing at this location, and it looks like fun but I can honestly say this place caters to out-of-town tourist and they probably arrange fishing trips and commit them to eating at this restaurant after their trip but I could be wrong. Really good mango margaritas!! The food was so so. It wasn't mind blowing but it was quick and all the waiters are very nice. I'm not sure if we would come back to eat but at night it looked pretty packed so maybe we'll stop by to check out the bar scene. The view is nice as you're directly across the street from the ocean but on a hot summer's day, even in the shade it's still pretty miserable bc the whole place is outdoors. We were sweating and wish there had been more fans on us but it was a very fast meal. Super sweet staff, it's always helpful to know a few words of Spanish (of course you really should since you're in Mexico & you better know at least a few simple sentences!!) but even so the waiter knew some English as well. read more

Keep in mind, the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays (like most restaurants in the area). Our first experience at La Paz was enhanced by Tailhunter's owner, Jonathan. Free tequila shots on our first night in La Paz - what a grand welcome! It felt like we were welcomed in a family environment at Tailhunter's! We enjoyed the live country music. Food was tasty! We had yellowtail sashimi and our server recommended tacos with fish Al mojo de ajo. The seafood was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Our margaritas and micheladas were inundated with plenty of alcohol. We had such a great time with Jonathan as our host. My husband and nephew also had fishing trips reserved with Jonathan's company and they caught 12+ species of fish! Jonathan's crew was so hard working packing the gear and their lunches/breakfasts. His crew made sure my family had a great time. I'm looking forward to the next time we're here. We are going to have his crew cook the fish they caught for us. OSKAR!!! Best server EVER!!! Tailhunter is a good place to go to get just regular Mexican food and watch American football. We came here for dinner on my first night in La Paz. There are a lot of stairs to get up to the bar, but the decor is fun. My carne asada tacos were delightful. I did wish they came with more beans and rice, though. On a second visit, I got a burger that had teriyaki sauce on it. I gobbled up half of it with fries. (I was super hungry). The view from the top deck is great. The food was excellent, ended up eating here three times. The first time I had the rajas - a so simple, yet so delicious mixture of corn, roasted poblano chilies and other ingredients. So good that I had to come back the next afternoon and have more. Then as I was leaving my friends arrived so I stayed for dinner as well. Best Customer Service in the area!! The owners of the restaurant Jilly booked everything from the shuttle at the airport to our fishing trip, hotel and excursions!! Other than the most wonderful hospitality ever , my favorite part was catching the fish and then coming to their restaurant and having them cook it for us I'm from Texas so Guacamole is a big deal to me lol, and theirs was a 5Guacamole , it wasn't just mashed avocados . The flavor was on point !! This is the best place to sit have a margarita and watch the sunset it was stunning. And as the sun set, the live music started and the dancing and the laughs. It's family friendly and a lot of fun. Jilly and Johnathan out do themselves to make your entire trip perfect , fun , and completely relaxing. We not only ate at the Tailhunter restaurant, but we also joined one of their guided fishing tours. The fishing trip was a lot of fun, and my husband was especially delighted that he caught several huge fish because this was his first time fishing in over a decade. Jonathan, the owner, was really personable and made sure we were well-taken care of. He worked hands on with the servers to ensure we were getting great service. And the food! The food was fantastic. Tailhunter prepared some of the fish that we caught that day, and wow it was absolutely incredible! We started off with some delectable and light cabrilla ceviche. The hint of onion and cilantro were incredible. Then, for the main course we had grilled mahi mahi with a garlic sauce, beer battered sailfish and Vera Cruz style sailfish. We also had beautiful side dishes of beans and a pepper and corn dish that was savory and sweet at the same time. Drinks got topped off quickly, and the server was attentive and responsive to questions. It blew our minds and we could eat there every night. Tailhunter was good before the pandemic when they actually had good, fresh fish on the menu but we tried to go there yesterday and last year and all they have now are tacos and hot dogs. We didn't even bother to eat since the menu was so limited and lame. But service is very slow, the bald manager has an attitude... and they called to cancel our reservation once!! Only go for the tacos and the view. We got the shrimp tacos (tacos gubernator) which were excellent, but everything else was mediocre at best. The tortilla soup was decent, the guacamole was mediocre, a little dry and with too much cilantro for our taste. The Mexican rice was very ordinary and quite spicy, the side of corn wasn't to any of our taste (possibly canned, and flavor was a bit odd). The unsweetened iced tea was unusually sour. The heater wasn't working yet because it was newly purchased. Our server was very nice but he failed to implement one of our food requests, and even when he noticed his mistake, he did not correct it (though we did not explicitly ask him to).
