We snagged it and was dumbfounded by not only how many people were there but by the high energy and smiles. I was educated by my in-laws that the Brass Rail Bar is loved by many because of it's history and after being closed for a while after a death (I think) and covid, when it reopened, is packed full all days of the week. We went in specifically to try their Tom & Jerry cocktail which is evidently a Port Huron staple during the Christmas season. I can't remember the ingredients but they were delicious!!! I love that The Brass Rail is a family ran business and it is obvious how much love and passion goes into this business. I'll continue to visit this bar many years into the future, amazing place!

Situated in the heart of Port Huron's South Park industrial district, it once was the haunt for blue collar Joe's who worked as the likes of Anker - Holth, Ogden Moffett, Gibraltar Sprocket and the old Autolife/Prestolite. It suffered when this area was hit hard by the rust belt woes of the 70's, 80's and 90's, with all but neighboring Port Huron Building Supply left, and by the early 2000's many wondered not if Jack's would close, but when. As such, Jack's probably would have gone the way of so many small working-class bars, but a couple years ago some key things changed to ensure not only it's survival, but a comeback. The biggest was that the former Tomlin's drugstore, long the fixture at the corner of Electric Avenue and Connor Streets, was torn down. This suddenly gave Jack's a frontage that it never had, and it became "found "by hipsters in the area. It became a cool place to be, and suddenly 20-something's were seen packing a place that less than two years before was usually inhabited by a handful of Baby Boomers and 70 and 80 something's who had pretty much nearly embalmed themselves into oblivion. Somehow or another, the word then worked its way down to the Detroit area and across to neighboring Canada, and it, along with Neil's across the street (the former Sportsman's) have become a new destination point in the community. The difference between this and so many other hipster places that serve drinks is that Jack's was serving PBR and Schaefer's before it was cool, and the atmosphere, in all it's Knotty-pine glory, is truly authentic rather than the faked stuff thrown together in many places. The staff is usually pretty friendly, but it can now get hectic and a bit crowded on the weekend (still seems weird to say that for a guy that grew up in this area). Some might qualify it as a dive bar, but I just see it as your classic neighborhood hang out that thankfully survives into the 21st-century.

We ordered "well done" because most Midwest pizza makers are scared to death of color ("char?!! Need to point out that here, and at War Water (their sister restaurant), you can get damned good sushi. Seriously. They have a lot of cream cheese offerings, as you would expect in the backwoods, but have plenty of nigiri and maki choices, that are consistently fresh and perfectly made. This saves us from the drive to Goblin 75% of the time. Servers are always attentive and personable. I've been here three times and all three times were great experiences. The staff are friendly and professional. And they take good care of you. There's a long bar with lots of flat screens going all the time. There's a juke box you can play from an app there, that is used at a lotof bars in this area. Good, clean restrooms. And there are a number tables as well. Where you can take advantage of the excellent menu. We are happy to have a place where you can a really good meal after my wife gets off work. It's hard to find anything but fast food in the Port Huron/Marysville area after 20:00 (8PM). That's all changed now. Their kitchen is amazing. So far I've had the Nacho's you can get in rhis area. Delicious pork Tacos, and they allowed substitute their incredibly good onion rings for chips with my tacos (really delicious). And a smash burger and fries that I'll be getting again soon. Seriously you have to see the menu to understand how hard it us to decide what to choose. I'm a huge fan of this place. And I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Plat 1 to anyone. I'm guessing when word gets around. This place will be crowded. Their hours are: open daily at 11:30 AM, closing at 10:00 PM Monday-Thursday, midnight on Friday-Saturday, and 8:00 PM on Sunday.
