"Friday Night Catfish - Live Music" 02/20/26 I decided to give this place a try since I've been passing by it for a while, always wondering if it was any good. I'm glad I finally gave in to curiosity. This spot was already jumping on a Friday evening around 6 PM. They had live music, a solo artist singing and playing guitar, and the whole atmosphere felt lively and upbeat. It gave me "Urban Cowboy" vibes in the best way. The southern hospitality was definitely there. It's family-oriented, pet-friendly, and apparently Friday nights are the only time you can catch them frying up catfish and shrimp. Customer service was a mix of good and just okay. The lady taking our order was polite, but not very friendly, maybe she's just not the best with social skills. You walk up to the outside window to order (like my husband and I did). We were told there'd be about a 45-minute wait, which we were fine with. They gave us a pager to let us know when the food was ready, and luckily we found a table in the packed dining area where we could enjoy the entertainment while we waited. We sipped on margaritas on the rocks and took in the scene. I was honestly surprised at how good they were, especially with the Tajín on the rim. Delicious and strong. Now, the two female servers were the real highlight. They were friendly, down-to-earth, and very attentive, checking on us periodically. One of them even refilled my margarita cup free of charge to make up for the wait. I loved their high energy and bubbly personalities, and I will say: it ended up being well worth the wait. When my husband brought our food to the table, it was piping hot. We both ordered the fried catfish and shrimp dinner, which comes with French fries, hush puppies, and a salad. For some reason, we were served crinkle-cut fries instead of their usual authentic-cut fries, aka "crappy fries," which confused us a little, but it wasn't a big deal. The fish and shrimp were fried to perfection, crunchy, succulent, and full of flavor. The shrimp tasted fresh with that ocean-seafood flavor. The fish tasted a little less fresh to me (slightly on the stale side), but it was still good overall. Complaints Pet-friendly: They allow dogs and cats to roam around the dining area while customers are eating, which is just not my cup of tea. I get that it's outdoor dining, but not everyone enjoys animals up close while they're trying to eat. There was a dog roaming and sniffing guests, and a cat doing the same. Luckily neither one made their way to my table. Another complaint is the styrofoam plate issue: Our dinner was served on a styrofoam plate without the paper lining to keep the hot food from melting into the styrofoam. I don't mind styrofoam, but please add the liner, especially for hot fried food. We noticed other customers had the lining, but we didn't. Maybe it was just a slip-up, who knows. Food Ratings Catfish/Shrimp Dinner: 5/5 Fish: 4/5 (fried to crunchy perfection and piping hot, but didn't taste as fresh, slightly stale) Shrimp: 5/5 (crispy, fresh tasting, piping hot) Hush puppies: 5/5 (crispy outside, moist inside) French fries: 4/5 (not the authentic cut, but fresh and hot) Side salad: 4/5 (fresh lettuce and tomatoes, but a very small portion) Margarita on the rocks: 5/5 (delicious and strong) Overall, Tailgate Grill is energetic, upbeat, and serves up some seriously tasty fried catfish and shrimp, especially on a Friday evening with delicious tasting Margaritas to top it off. The atmosphere is inviting, the food is mouthwatering, and I tore my plate up! I definitely recommend this place if you're craving southern fried catfish and shrimp. One last tip: bring cash to tip the hardworking servers; they were tag-teaming it and taking care of a packed crowd with smiles on their faces. Great job ladies! read more

I noticed this place but never had a chance to go until i just forced the family. I'm going stay or go, and almost all of them came with me. The burgers here are great and of course the o rings were great as well. I like the decor and even though it's out door seating it was still comfortable. Give this place a shot. Hello all... my son turned me onto this great spot outside Tomball. He promised I'd love it and it didn't disappoint! Walk up and order at the window...very friendly gentleman took our order and gave me a beeper and pointed out a big cooler with ice cold water and cups if we were so inclined...my cold Shiner Bock hit the spot though. It's all outdoor seating but covered with fans so very comfortable. When we got our food...from a very nice lady...I knew it was going to be great. I ordered the jalapeño burger and my son the regular cheese burger and we split an order of fries. My burger was awesome and good sized. Smash type patty cooked perfectly with very fresh veggies. The fries are fresh, hand cut and oh so good! 5 star friendly service, excellent food and a great atmosphere made this place a new favorite spot. We stopped here on a Friday night for a quick dinner and drinks. We picked a bad night. They had a large birthday party going on and it took over an hour to get our food. We didn't complain as they have a very small kitchen and low number of staff members. The food was decent. My wife had a burger and thought it was pretty good. I had the catfish & shrimp, which was fair. Next time I'll try a burger. It's a neat little outdoor set up and fun place to have a burger & beer. read more

Fried pickles were not bad but not my favorite. A little bit heavy on the batter of which I'm not a super fan. Homemade fries were good. Grilled cheese with pepper jack cheese and some crispy bacon added made for a good sandwich. We enjoyed our meal and would recommend this place for sure. I'm not one to write bad reviews but this one will have to be one of the them. I'm sorry to say but the quality has gone down since it changed hands. The most recent order was for pickup. Our order was as follows: 1 jalapeño burger, no cheese, extra lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions 1 regular burger, no cheese, extra lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions 1 chicken sandwhich, extra lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onions 1 order of fries and 1 order of onion rings Out of the entire order, they got the sides correct. The jalapeño burger had cheese but no veggies at all, the regular burger had cheese and no veggies either, and the chicken sandwhich had the usual lettuce and tomato. No onion or pickles in sight. This was all only found out until we got home as no one thought to check the order because in the past, the orders have always been correct. The other thing I must say is that the chicken had no flavor and was overcooked. I'd never had an overcooked chicken sandwhich from here, nor a flavorless one. It was rather sad tbh. We have had mixed experiences at Tailgate. They recently changed their menu and no longer serve cheddar or pepper jack cheese then even more recently removed one of their token items: homemade chips. Those chips were one of the main reasons we would go to tailgate. We were incredibly disappointed to discover this change. Outside of the menu changes, 2 of the last 3 times we have ordered to go from this restaurant, items were discovered missing upon arriving home. First time they forgot to add a burger (we went back) and last week they forgot to include onion rings (we didn't go back). On top of the forgetfulness and menu changes, there is a new young blonde girl (teen or early twenties) working the front with a bad attitude. She once left the phone off the hook for 30 minutes once when we were trying to place a call-ahead order, then when we finally got through she put us on hold for another 20 minutes. When I went to pick up the order she had a very unpleasant disposition. This used to be an awesome burger joint, we would go weekly and bring our out of town visitors all the time. How have I never been to this place before. I've lived in Cypress for 4+ years and never been here. Anytime I wanted a burger I'd choose Andy's Kitchen, 5 guys, etc. Until today I've been missing out. I will be back! The burger was fresh, not frozen. The bun maintained its integrity the whole time - no sogginess or folly business. It's only outdoor seating but plenty of covered areas with fans and tv's. I came for lunch but the HH drink menu appears robust and reasonable. Service was friendly and the location was premium. It's away from the constant concrete hustle of Houston and the chain restaurants. It was nice to hear birds and locusts while I ate. I'm looking forward to my next time coming here! read more

Me and my family come there at least 2-3 times a month . We was there last Saturday 7-12-25 ordered our food I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and forgot to remove a few condiments from the burger when the waitress came around I told her there was a mistake with it and she said she put another one in for me . My family had already eaten and I was still waiting it had been at least 10-15 minutes so I just said forget it . We went up to pay and the burger that was messed up and the new one the had to put on was on the bill . I just told them to take it off cause I hadn't received it yet so she removed the second burger . But said there was no way to remove the first burger I asked why and she acted like she had no clue what she was doing . She fooled with the computer for 5 mins or so and just said I can't take it off cause she didn't know how . Told us we couldn't get a refund and there was no manager that could do it . It really left a bad taste in my mouth and not sure if I want to come back even though I love the food . I don't feel I should've payed for a $15 burger (I had several veggies added to it) when I didn't get it they was trying to charge me for the second one . She did remove the second burger but the not the first burger and we had already payed before we questioned it and then she said she couldn't refund us the money after that cause she had no clue how to go and no manager there read more

We got the cheese fries and cheeseburgers. First we tried the cheese fries and the cheese on the fries tasted worse than canned cheese. If you're going to charge 6.75 for cheese fries either do some homemade queso or shredded cheese. I can't believe yall think the cheese is acceptable. The fries were decent that didn't have cheese on them but still didn't have any salt. If my rating was based off the cheese it would be negative and I would never go back. As far as the cheeseburgers the meat had good seasoning and the bun was toasted nicely. We will be back but will steer clear of the cheese fries and everyone reading this should steer clear of them as well. Please let us know when or if the cheese is changed.
