La Boite à Dejeuner - Emulsion de tomates

After a week of eating every meal accompanied by either a block of cheese or stick of butter this was a nice and healthy break from the heavy foods I had been eating the entire week. The best part was the food was incredibly delicious mostly in part due to the organic vegetables used. There is seating available outside on the street as well as inside (which is air conditioned as a bonus!) The owner of the restaurant was nice enough to translate the menu posted in the front of the shop into English for me. We ordered a few items off the menu: - Emulsion of Tomato: I absolutely adore gazpacho and this is the best that I've had in a long time mostly due to the small hint of heat in the dish. This was my favorite item we ordered off of the menus. - Vegetable Box: This is the first vegetable dish I've had in France which doesn't just consist of sauteed vegetables in butter. Each of the vegetables in this dish was expertly prepared and delicious. -Tartine: On top of a grilled piece of bread, a melody of warmed vegetables. The poached egg on top added the perfect amount of gooey-ness to the dish. The restaurant does offer meat dishes but they know how to prepare vegetables to bring out the best flavors in them. Would absolutely recommend that you stop in here for a meal!

The food was exceptional and the service was friendly and quick. The tomato soup was one of the highlights of our culinary adventures in France. This meal was a welcome respite from the heavy food that we have been eating over the past week. We enthusiastically recommend!

The road in front can be busy so sitting outside you'd have to deal with the noise from the cars. We had Galettes, they serve vegetarian and vegan options as well as everything else. Everything is organic and regional. It tastes like home-cooked food and was quite delicious. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that the quantity was not enough in my opinion for a meal. I did not want to pay another €15 for another galette, but in spite of having enjoyed the food greatly I was still hungry when I left. To give an idea: we paid €40 for two galettes and two drinks; it would have been € 30 or more for seconds.

Our family stopped for lunch after sight-seeing on Wednesday afternoon. The space is charming,…read moreevocative of a French country farmhouse and small with just a very few tables of various sizes. We came with various levels of French among us, and the staff were kind - welcoming and accommodating, and willing and able to assist in English, when needed. The menu consisted of all kinds of galletes and crêpes for all tastes -- from the usual complete or cheese and eggs to more elaborate house specialties containing chicken and seafood. There was also a "formule" of the day for those who want a full meal and wider range of items. We all ordered a gamut of their selections and were more than happy with all. I in particular wanted something on the lighter side -- so I was pleased to see a selection of salads served in a bowl lined with a delicious buckwheat gallette. The salad I chose ("salade des prés") was dotted with a creamy herb-laced cheese and contained lettuce, sliced pears and walnuts. It was light but satisfying. One of us chose the "basse cour" gallete which had chicken and seasonal vegetables served in a light herb-laced sauce. Flavors were clean and simple. Of course, there was a nice selection of local wines and Breton and Normandy ciders to complement the menu. We kept it simple for dessert --and ice cream sundae, one each of butter-sugar and chestnut cream crêpe sucrée. This seams to be a nice family-run place and it would be great to see them do well. Try it if you're biking or wandering in Montsoreau!
