This covered market place is really nice, but to be avoided if you don't like narrow alleys and a lot of people (Saturday, past 13:00).
My partner and I had never been there. We were going to have a bento box lunch with a friend from Paris who suggested this place.
The place is occupies a relatively large part of market real estate but all in all it's pretty small and uses communal tables and benches so you'll be seated next to others. If this is not your thing, find something else.
Also during lunch time (I'm talking Saturday during fashion week) it can be pretty crowed and a long wait.
The guest are seated whenever a seat becomes available. When one seat becomes available the first single guest in the queue will be seated, when two seats (next or opposite each other) become available the first duo in the queue will be seated, and so forth.
We were two, waiting for number three to arrive. Though we were in front of the queue others were given priority as we were not complete (or friend got delayed) and the place fills up each seat the moment it becomes available. So when he arrived we had to wait for three seats to become available again. They won't hold a seat, at least not on a busy Saturday lunch time.
One tipster called the manageress racist towards Asians, I can NOT confirm this as one of out party was Vietnamese and one part Asian and only one Caucasian.
The food was simple but tasty enough and though a bento box like shown on the photos looks like a bit too little for lunch, it serves all three of us well enough.
I wouldn't say it the best Japanese I've ever had, but I really liked the market atmosphere and the hustle and bustle of the place.
We were not in a hurry so we didn't mind the wait too much. It was a novel experience though, to be bumped even when three seats became available, just because our friend hadn't arrived yet.
All in all though it was a nice experience on a relaxed weekend in Paris. read more
