Patch comparison of lettering on another vendor of the same patch and heavy boarder with the Tactical Gear Junkie patch below.
    Richard G.

I wanted to make some unique custom patches for my Comic Con Cosplay outfit! I had called various patch vendors and either they wanted a huge quantity of patches for a minimum purchase or once they caught wind of what I wanted they wanted me to get a letter authorizing me to reproduce a 'possible' licensed image! So I was in-between a rock and hard place until I found Tactical Gear Junkie which did not care about licensing as they had their own Star Wars patches among the many patches on their website. They have a formalized way of doing business as they have you send them a digital image of what patch you want created. You also pay for a fee for the digitizing, tell them the size and how many you want ordered. Of course the smaller lot size the higher price, but for me under my $100.00 per lot of patches budget. For me it really worked out as I did not want to order a bunch of patches and sell the excess on ebay or craigslist. I also wanted unique patches I would never see on someone else at Comic Con! Payment is required before any artwork is completed. They accept Paypal which makes payment a breeze once you approve the digital proof. Lilian Gorman sent me an invoice at this point in the transaction. The invoice is from Willow Hill Supply LLC DBA Tactical Gear Junkie. After I submited the image they sent me a 'digital proof' to approve. The digital proof was emailed to me for approval before any of my patches are made, typically within 1-5 days depending on when you submit payment. No changes can be made once artwork is approved, so I had to make sure the patch is exactly how i wanted it. This is where we went around and round on thread colors. I had some problems as I was very particular about the colors as I was replicating an existing patch design. Unfortunately the colors in the digital proof did not accurately represent the true thread color. Joe was so very accommodating as we went around a few times over colors and offered me to pick out the thread color from the thread vendor! Way to go Joe Gorman! I think the other Yelp reviewer Kirby total missed that point. Tommy Hackworth is the resident artist and does a fantastic job of making my copies of patches look even better! All patches are made in America, by us in Winchester KY. No shipping overseas to another country! They shipped my orders via USPS envelope with tracking. When I received the first order I was very happy with the colors, and the stitching patterns thanks to the talented Tommy Hackworth! My one bone to pick was the proof image showed the lettering being stitched to be more readable. My patches arrived looking like only a single thread was used for the lettering. I submitted a picture of another vendors same patch with the one Tactical Gear Junkie provided. I don't know if this is a limitation of their equipment or what. Also the border stitching appeared to be excessively heavy. They also cannot embroider hats.

Did the owner's wife escape from a state mental institution?…read more My husband just retired from the Air Force and we went into Major Dad's to trade in two duffle bags of old military gear for store credit. The store was empty save for the owner's wife who was working the counter. As soon as she saw how much gear we had she began yelling at us about not bringing in more than a few items to trade in at one time. She also insisted that we had some kind of an old Army uniform in the bags despite the fact that we told her over and over again that he was Air Force! When my husband asked why she wouldn't take what we had she began screaming about how she had bookkeeping chores to do and that it would take her one week to inventory what we had. She then insisted that we leave the stuff with her so she could have her husband (who works a full time job somewhere else) inventory it on the weekend. My husband was afraid of theft so we decided to take the gear and go elsewhere. It gets good in the next paragraph! She then proceeded to curse both my husband and I out as we left the store! I am a very Christian woman and the words that she was using were very offensive. We then drove to another military surplus store in Lexington. The guy there only took 15 minutes to inventory everything we had and give us an offer. If she is THAT stressed by working in a slow retail store, she should tell her husband that she does not want to work there anymore! I used to work at a state psychiatric hospital in Indiana and her behavior reminds me of some of the more unstable patients that I worked with! She actually scared me when she started screaming and yelling at us. She needs SERIOUS psychiatric help before she scares more customers away from her store! I hope that her husband sees this because his wife is not a stable person!

They have fair prices on all patches: Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, military wars, conflicts, and Veteran patches. Plus, they have Army-issued backpacks, the University of Kentucky flags, and other items like vintage M-65 field jackets, vintage CWU-45 flight jackets, liners, license plate frames, and an assortment of pins. Please see attached photos for further details. Today, I found several Great Lakes Naval Training Center food trays, not the separated sectional kind, but a tray to sit plates and cups on, which will work out well for the kids. They're always spilling drinks or food while watching TV or playing games. They were only $4.50 each. Honestly, it's worth a stop to look around if you're in the vicinity. You never know what you might find. Also, I suggest calling if it's late in the afternoon to ensure that they're still open. Finally, the owner is soft-spoken but willing to start a conversation. So, do not be too standoffish. Share some war stories. I've noticed that several other veterans stop in for a chat too.
