I heard about Corey and Tact Massage from Lonna, who is a chiropractor in the same building. Booking a session was very easy and I really appreciated the fact that I didn't need to put down my credit card to guarantee the booking: it gave me a first clue of what kind of person Corey is. I didn't really have any health complaints, but I like getting massages: it is one hour where I can just let my thoughts drift and have someone else take care of me. Like many people, I associate massage with relaxation and spa-like surrounding. The stereo-typical massage therapist is dressed in some white clothes and oozes sensuality and well-being. Corey and his practice is different; different in good way though. When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted by a what I associated with a typical San Franciscan, dressed in a plaid shirt and a big commuter rucksack; he probably had just biked to his practice. He then told me a little bit about what I'd be expecting over the next hour, before I got ready for the actual massage. I then expected him to start "massaging" my body, but instead I witnessed how his hands applied light pressure on my back. While doing so, he commented on areas that he thought were a bit tight and/or needed some attention. After that, I pretty much let him do "his thing". I had complete trust in him...in fact, I apparently fell asleep at various times during the session. (Corey said something along the lines of: "I noticed that when I'd just relieved the tension on various sections of your body, I noticed you started to snore lightly...") After the session, Corey walked me through what he'd done and he pointed to various muscles on the anatomy chart on the wall next to the massage table. I can only agree with all the other Yelpers, especially Kevin N, who says: "Corey is an intellectual who combines his academic knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology with his natural gift of tactile memory." I also liked that Corey didn't do the guilt trip on me that I associate with some other massage therapists. Something like: "Oh, your body is really tense and I think we should see each other on a regular basis. In other words: your body is a total mess and I can help you fix it." Corey simply said that it would probably be good for me to come back for another session and work on some other areas, but that in general I'm in pretty good shape. I liked every bit of my visit: but mostly the fact that Corey is just a cool dude who knows his shit and makes me feel good! read more

I was referred to Corey by a friend. I was expressing unhappiness with my other massage experiences because I'm a bodybuilder, and the therapists never seem to be able to do much beyond a superficial rub-down. Even when I expressed specific areas that needed attention, I'd always end up with the same full-body massage. It just wasn't helping with my sports issues. I've been so happy with Corey. He understands what my body needs as an athlete and really digs into the problem areas to release those parts. My experiences with him are always magic and I'm shocked at my increased flexibility in the days after a session with him. I'd definitely recommend him for site-specific issues you may have, or if you've just not been getting the kind of relief you'd like from other massage experiences. He listens to what you need and seeks out triggers that will help your whole body relax. read more

in 2023 i began recuperating from a series of strokes, which corey has been helping my left side paralysis. i'm walking on a rollator and getting stronger. the physical therapist tells me what to concentrate on and i tell corey what i need. results have been very good. from 2016-2022 i received regular tactmassage.com for knots and sore muscles. since 2016 i've been grateful to corey for the manipulations!!!! read more

True to the reviews, Corey is seriously awesome. I'm new to the pressure point massage technique (always having believed the more it hurt, the better). I've been to Corey two times so far, and both times, I have left feeling very relaxed (think savasanah x3) and without any pain. Corey is gentle, but firm on releasing muscle tension. It's funny when Corey breathes out with a sigh of relief every time he's released a knot, but it just goes to show that he really tries to connect to your body and tension when he's working! I feel really comfortable around Corey even though he's a male masseur (which I'm not used to). Also, parking is free and easy. A+, highly recommend! read more

There had been a painful knot in the back of my hip joint for a couple of years that I'd been resigned to suffering through forever. Nothing I'd tried seemed to make a difference. Then Corey got rid of it completely! 20 days later, it's still gone. I do plan to return, of course. Corey's very professional in a warm and friendly way. I feel so very relaxed when my session is over. read more

I am soooo glad that I was able to get a massage from Corey during my trip to San Francisco! I got my first of many massages from Corey six or seven years ago. I've had scoliosis and chronic back pain since childhood and massage does so much more for it than pain medications, acupuncture, and chiropractic work combined. Even though I moved back to Hawaii two years ago, I still have not found anyone here that does as good a job as he does. It was great to see Corey again and I can say that he continues to be a wonderful massage therapist and to grow with experience. As always, Corey was very aware of how I was responding to what he was doing and altered his methods accordingly -- he is definitely not one of those people who has a set idea of what they are going to do and just plows through their routine. Although Corey no longer has calluses from doing plumbing and geology fieldwork, he will always have big hands that can cover a good portion of your back all at once, and a hell of a reach. I am so happy to know that Corey is now able to make a living doing massage because he's great at it, he loves it, and he's helping people. Now every time a friend tells me they're going to SF, I will be telling them to look Corey up on Yelp! read more

The options for scheduling appointments are AWESOME! I commute and get home late and in general my schedule is crazy! I super appreciate the ease of scheduling an appointment and the late hours. The massage was awesome!! I have had literally HUNDREDS of massages, rolfing sessions, etc. and can tell immediately if I am actually going to get some relief or if I'm going to be cringing the whole massage knowing I'm in the hands of a rookie. Well, I knew immediately with Corey I was going to get help. YAY!!! I have found a therapist that has awesome flexible hours AND is good at what he does!! Thanks Corey! :) read more

This review is embarassingly overdue.. I received a 90 minute massage from Corey back in August and it was great! It was my first time visiting a male massage therapist and Corey was very professional yet warm. I let him know I was having major knots in my neck so he had me lay on my back and started in right away (I've since discovered it's much better to lay on my back than my stomach for neck work). He got down in those knots and was able to relieve SO much tension; it was truly amazing. It's wonderful that he's able to relieve pressure without going too hard on the pressure (I normally like pretty deep pressure too) and I wasn't overly sore the next day. I appreciated that he has a great knowledge of the body and was able to inform me where he felt tension. Before the session ended, he did some work on my lower back/glutes, upper legs and found some knots that I didn't even know where there! So if you have done any recent exercise (or hiking, like I did), definitely let him know. It felt GREAT to have some work done, I wish I would have realized it earlier!! He also showed me some great stretches to use with my lower back that I still use consistently. I've been using up some of those daily deals (groupon, bloomspot, etc) and I have to say that Corey has been the best of the bunch. I definitely plan on returning as soon as I can find myself regular work! A few days after my massage, he followed up with an email which was greatly appreciated. Showed a lot of care for his work and clients, highly recommended! read more

Before today, it had been a few years since I've had a massage. I went to see Cory on the recommendation of a few friends. They said 'He gives the best massage I've ever had'. Even though a few people have told me this, I was a little skeptical. Really, the Best?? It turns out hey we're right! I lived with two massage therapists in college. They practiced on me. Besides being totally relaxed, I learned a lot from them. So, before Cory started he asked a few questions about how I'm feeling, if there is any tightness or issues that I'm having. I quickly answered as I wanted to get on the table. Cory did not disappoint at all! The massage was amazing. He focused on areas I mentioned, but found others that I wasn't even aware of. He actually listened to what I had said. Unlike other massage therapists who ask, but just go thru the motions once you get on the table. It was an amazing experience and he defiantly knows his anatomy and musculature. Besides all the obvious muscles work, his nimble fingers worked the tiny ones too, that I didn't even know existed until he worked the knots out. I left his room feeling completely relaxed and even felt that I walked taller and straighter. I can not wait to go back and have decided to try and make it a regular thing. If there is any doubt in your mind at how fantastic Cory is, just let that thought go and go see him. I promise, you won't be disappointed! read more

Two words: MAGIC HANDS. I'm pretty athletic and have always carried my stress in my shoulders, neck and back. I'd been to several massage therapists before and was usually underwhelmed by their ability to 1) find my problem spots and 2) work on them deep enough to really feel any different. It was completely different with Corey. He immediately identified my problem areas and applied focused, experienced pressure in ways that got to the depth of the problem but weren't painful. He even found and worked on areas that I hadn't realized were problems. It was amazing!! It was not only extremely pleasant during the massage, but afterwards I felt my shoulders release for the first time in at least 10 years! I went home and slept like a baby. He was also extremely professional and had a calming quality that put me even more at ease. I will refer him to everyone I know!! read more

Got a trubates deal for a 60 min massage. Amazing massage. Dude definitely knows his trigger/pressure points. Too bad he's a bit too expensive (though well worth it) for me to be able to afford on a regular basis. He does offer return customer discount though. Parking was plenty. I went on a Sunday night. The entrance is a bit hard to find. You have to walk down the 1 way street to the door to get rung up to his studio, which is small but cozy. Def someone id go to if I want things done right read more

My massage with Corey was amazing! He was really attentive to my problem areas and applied the amount of pressure I needed. He really worked magic on my shoulders & back. No more tension headaches! I also love the online scheduling. read more

I am a triathlete with a history of bike racing. That means my body has been beat up from crashes and long miles in the saddle. But I am also a CPA and spend long hours in the office during tax season. Corey customizes the experience to address sport specific and office specific issues. My posture, mobility, and sport performance improve from working with Corey. I highly recommend him if you are an athlete who takes your body through the wringer. read more

Corey has done an incredible job twice at relieving chronic back, neck and shoulder pain. He quickly identifies the root cause and works very deeply to break it up, restore mobility and reduce pain. He also is incredibly well versed in biomechanics and demonstrated exercises following the treatment. I strongly recommend him. read more

This is a long overdue review for Corey at Tact Massage. As a dancer, I have all kinds of tight muscles, imbalances, injuries - you name it. Corey is the best massage therapist I have ever come across. He knows how to listen to the body and ultimately helps me get through a lot of pain and discomfort. I had to resort to a Massage Envy visit when I was out of town in Ohio recently...never again! Do yourself the favor of seeing a true bodywork wizard! read more

Corey is one of the rare male massage therapists who has a true intuitive touch. He's helped me with several chronic pain issues in my back and neck, and I always leave feeling relieved and refreshed. He always takes the time to ensure that all of my pain has gone before I leave. His many years of experience in the field really show, making him stand out among so many other bodyworkers. I can thoroughly recommend him as a remarkable massage therapist. read more

Corey rocks. I had deep lower back pain attributed to a snowboard fall last season and after 3 different massages at places like Burke William spa, Union square, and some other mall massage it was Corey who took me from pain to no pain. What I liked about him is that he walked you through the physiology of the body and how the muscle groups work. It was therapeutic and informative. I felt so good I didnt want it to end. Typically, I prefer women named Helga who are strong and frumpy to touch my hawt bod (kidding) but I was at easy with Corey as he is professional, a miracle worker and easy on the eyes (yes Corey your def a handsome lad). What is great about him is that he appears to know how to manage an athelete's pain. Thanks Corey - you rock dude! :) read more

I was buying massage deals from Groupon trying to find someone I like. Corey at Tact Massage Therapy was the last Groupon I bought because I am not going anywhere else! Having chronic neck and shoulder pain, I've been going to Corey continually. I feel great and so relax afterward every time. He is so awesome! I highly recommend Corey to all my friends. read more

Just got back from an awesome first treatment at Corey's hands. He possesses an uncanny ability to locate problem areas, and an extremely sensitive and professional manner. He digs in deep, providing effective trigger-point therapy and myofascial release. I use a computer constantly at work and have dealt with RSI for decades, but after a one-hour session, I walked out feeling more "normal" than I have in a long time. Corey's evening hours and convenient street parking near his studio mean I'll be back the next time my neck and shoulders act up. read more

I have tried a lot of massage therapy through the years. Until now I have generally not seen the same body workerer repeatedly. Until now. For more than a year I continue to come back to Corey. He has an almost savant-like ability to identify and cure my body - neck, back, hands, whatever aches or squeaks or clicks where it should not, he makes it run smooth and quiet. I can't recommend him enough. read more

This might sound hyperbolic but I don't care - Corey has a true gift as a massage therapist in the form of his sensitive, well trained fingertips. The phrase on his website "Precisely Therapeutic" sums it up nicely. He can feel where the tension is and respond appropriately to release it without the use of brute force. As others have mentioned, he tailors his treatment specifically to his client - no routine patterns/boring rub downs - he focuses and heals on what is bothering you. I recently had a major surgery, and the physical therapy exercises resulted in some very sore glut and hamstring muscles - Corey has given me real relief. He's also a smart man and is quite agreeable to either chat or keep quiet during treatment - no weird conversations unlike a few other therapists I've experienced. I've been going to him for years - he is the best of the best. read more

Not only is Corey incredibly pleasant, attentive, and approachable, he's clearly very talented! I came to him with a lot of tension and discomfort in my neck and shoulders. After a very thorough massage, I left feeling greatly relieved and satisfied. He also explained how the body can become tight and taught me some stretches for my neck and shoulders. I got a strong sense he really cares about people and his work. I highly recommend him! read more

Corey was just so amazing!. He worked SO deeply, but not painfully and truly worked out some stuff in parts of my body that no body worker had done before. Amazing! read more

I just tried Corey for the first time. A friend gave me a gift certificate. I've had a number of massages over the years. This was the best one I can recall getting. Corey knows anatomy, and manages to achieve with just the right amount of pressure the kind of outcome that others with less knowledge and sensitivity often attempt through brute but ineffective force. Also, Corey seems like a genuinely caring person. I instantly felt a level of trust that allowed me to relax into the deep tissue work. read more

Corey is an intellectual who combines his academic knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology with his natural gift of tactile memory. I cannot recommend him enough. I come every week and he has helped me gain functional movement restricted from back pain as I am an avid gym goer. He has been a critical element of my rehabilitation and now I can lift significant weights, do 6 (!) pull-ups, and build my health as I gracefully age into my 30s. As a healthcare professional I give him my thanks as well as my respect in this candid glowing review. read more

I loved the massage I got from Cory. It was gentle, but very deeply healing and relaxing. He works carefully with trigger points and seems to have mastered the art, as well as the science, of giving a great massage. I slept really well after the massage, and felt great at dance class the next day. I would definitely recommend him. He is in an interesting building that houses many artists, small businesses, etc. You have to enter on the side street (nearly half a block from the corner) where the street address is prominently posted. Then you ring a buzzer to be let in. Parking is on-street, and was not hard to find. read more

This is by far one of the best massages I have ever received, if not the best, but definitely one of the best. It's just so odd that with all the massage professionals we have in the city, finding one who is as skilled and intuitive as Corey is still a non-trivial task. Corey came highly recommended to me by my neighborhood, and I decided to give him a try to hep release my tight gluts and hamstrings from all the tennis I have been playing. I didn't realize how sore and tight I was at so many different places. Corey's skillful hands gently and steadfastly identify the trouble spot and diligently release them one at a time. He did a particularly fantastic job on my hamstrings. I am very happy that I find Corey and I'm definitely planning on making a return visit on a regular basis. Highly recommended! read more

If you are looking for an amazing massage therapist, Corey is the guy for you. Being that I swam my whole life and now carry a heavy bag everywhere I go, my shoulders were in bad shape. I told Corey about the different aches and pains I had and he truly helped. He really focused on pain points and was constantly checking in on. After the massage, Corey even gave some tips on how to strengthen and relax my shoulder muscles. If you are in any type of pain, have sore muscles, looking to regain functional movements, or just looking to relax - Corey is the guy for you. read more

Corey is a true genius when it comes to massage. I have been the recipient of consistent body work for the past 20 years and although he is not the first therapist I've found that's good, he is definitely the best. He is extremely intuitive and thorough and has the ability to pin point areas I didn't even know were tight or sore and get them to release. His education in massage is evident but his intuition is what I believe makes him superior as a therapist. I always leave satisfied, look forward to going back and reccomend anybody interested in a true theraputic massage. read more

I'm actually following through on my commitment to get regular massages from Corey and it's worth every penny. Thanks, Corey!

If you want a truly professional and unique experience, get a massage from Corey. I have tried numerous therapists over the years and Corey fulfilled every requirement I had. Precise, skilled, educated, intuitive, deep tissue work is his specialty. I prefer deep tissue in some areas and in more injured areas I prefer less pressure. Corey was able to determine what I needed where and lightened up on the pressure in more sensitive areas. I highly reccomend him to anybody looking for a massage that is truly theraputic. I will continue to see him and highly reccomend him to anyone looking for an accomodating and consistant body worker who can totally cater to your needs - whether they be for a relaxation massage or a deep tissue healing masage, Corey is excellent. read more

Corey's simply amazing. I went to him after having hurt my lower back at the gym. When I got off his table, the pain wasn't just reduced - it was gone. I've been going back ever since and the experience - the depth of both physical healing and mental relaxation - just keeps getting better. Even though he goes pretty deep at my request, I still fall asleep on his table! Corey doesn't just know the moves - his knowledge of anatomy and physiognomy is amazing. Be good to yourself - treat yourself to a massage with this guy. read more

Got a fantastic massage last week from Corey with my Bloomspot deal. My general poor posture and crappy work habits have left me with really tight shoulders and pain. Corey did focused therapy on my sore areas and I have definitely noticed a lasting difference. I carry a lot of stiffness/tension in my entire body from mountain biking, boxing, walking/jogging, having a desk job, etc. I was sore and stiff before my massage, especially the right side of my body. There was also a sharp pain under my right shoulder. The focus of the massage was almost entirely on my lower/upper back, shoulders, and neck. And the sports massage actually felt great--relaxing, not painful at all like some sports massages. I felt much better after the massage. I got on my bicycle to ride home and realized immediately that I no longer felt stiff and creeky. Plus I was really pleased to notice that the sharp pain under my right shoulder was completely gone. I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more
