So........I see that you can now review businesses in Mexico. Sweet! I was sitting here today…read morelooking at some old pictures of mine, and I came across a few from the last time I was down in Tijuana. I can't post most of them (kidding Marsha...kidding) ;-), but I'll be damned if I don't write a review and post a few pictures from the greatest little street side stand in all of Tijuana. A little back story first................... Tortas Wash Mobile was founded in 1964. From what I have read, it used to be in front of one of Tijuanas first car wash places. 50 years later, the car wash is long gone but the Torta stand is still there! It is a little unassuming cart that just sits there on the side of the street. If you are taking a taxi from the border, most, if not all the guys know where it is. If they don't, tell them to drive down Agua Caliente and drop you off at the gas station on the corner of Agua Caliente and Jalisco. Look down the street and you will see smoke filling the air. You are a hundred or so yards away from one of the best sandwiches you will ever sink your teeth into. You can only get one thing at Wash Mobile........The Carne Asada Torta. They have been doing it for 50 years and I bet it hasn't changed one bit. When you walk up to the stand, you are greeted by the whole crew. They are extremely friendly and even if your Spanish is weak, you can still get by without a problem. There are usually about 3-4 guys working. One guy grilling up the steak, one guy assembling the Tortas, one guy grabbing drinks, and one guy taking money. Its a streamlined operation for sure. You can get your Torta one of a few ways. The condiments they have are mayonnaise, avocado/guacamole, pickled onions/tomatoes and hot sauce. That's it. No need for anything else. I usually get mine with just carne asada and guacamole. I'm a simple man and this type of preparation lets you enjoy the flavors of the well marinated meat. Once in awhile I'll get it with the onion/tomato mix and some hot sauce. Any way you get it, you will surely love it. I promise! They cut a telera style roll in half and throw it on the grill to crisp it up. Once that is nice and toasty/crunchy (still soft in the middle though), they assemble your Torta, place it in a paper wrapper and hand it over. You unwrap your Torta and start to dig in. You sink your teeth into that delicious bread. You bite in and get the cool avocado along with pieces of perfectly marinated carne asada. You swallow that first bite and a smile comes across your face. You grab your Coke and take a swig to wash it down. Back into the Torta. Bread and steak and avocado, repeat over and over. Soon, you are taking your last bite. Sadness comes across you. There is only one thing left to do.............. Order another! "Uno mas, por favor"! Happy face is instantly back! Tortas Wash Mobile is only open during the morning/early afternoon hours. Don't be scared of Tijuana. Head down there in the morning and get yourself one of these Tortas. It's totally worth waiting in that long line to come back to the US. I cannot say enough about how great this sandwich is. It's so simple yet so delicious. It's without a doubt, one of my top 5 (maybe even top 3) favorite sandwiches of all time. You can get two Tortas and a Coke for a little under $9.00 (Early 2013 prices). I probably won't be able to make it down to TJ for a long long time, but my memories and pictures will keep me happy and remind me of how fantastic and delicious this Torta is! Wash Mobile, you guys are simply the best! Thanks for the great memories. Hopefully we will meet again sometime soon!

The carne asada smelled delicious from a block away and we were ready for a quick bite. The torta itself is super fresh, warm, and soft. The carne asada is tender and they give a good portion of it. All the toppings took this torta to the next level. It was juicy, creamy, and savory. Such a great street food spot if you're in TJ!

From the moment you walk up to the stand, you're greeted with friendly service and the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling meats and fresh tortillas. I tried the carne asada, al pastor, and fish tacos, and each one was a masterpiece in its own way. The salsa selection is on point, with options that range from mild to fiery, and the toppings are always fresh and perfectly balanced. What really stood out to me was the care they put into every order. You can tell they take pride in what they do, and it shows in every bite. Whether you're a taco enthusiast or just craving something delicious, Tacos Fitos is the place to go. Highly recommend! It reminds me of some of the big food halls in Los Angeles (Grand Central Market, Haven City, etc.) packed with delicious food and beverage options. Just a quick Uber ride from the border and you can be munching on fresh ceviche and savoring an ice cold glass of house-made sangria. That's exactly what we ordered! I appreciated the option for indoor or outdoor seating. Since it was an extremely hot and humid day, we opted to sit inside, where the fans were a lifesaver. We ordered drinks at the bar inside and then picked up food from one of the several vendors outside. The staff was welcoming and checked on us several times, even offering our group a large table upstairs, which was a considerate touch. From coffee to pastries, sweets, snacks, wine, beer, seafood, pizza, and everything in between, Telefónica is a great way to start or end your day in TJ. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in town!

This place is amazing. Disregard any bad reviews that you may see…read more the truth is they have so many different types of food here, the biggest problem is deciding which one you want to eat. My advice, take a cheap UBER instead of driving as parking is not fast. When you arrive take a walk though quickly to get a lay of the land and see what the options are. Maybe grab a michelada on the way in since the bar is right there. I'd pick one or 2 or 3 places to try as long as what you order fits together. the last thing you'd want to eat would be a taco and a hot dog. BE MINDFUL: Realize you are in Mexico. This place wasn't really made for tourists, it's more of a local spot and it's pretty safe. That being said they don't usually care too much about dealing with complaints. Take breath a little bit Karen and enjoy the experience. The tables are open seating, so maybe while you grab food, send your friend to find a table. they also had a cat there that was so chill and wanted to be pet.

I've gone too so many places where service is amazing but the food is just meh. Why waste your time in opening up a restaurant excellent service but no FLAVA in yo food. But yes, the service here is parallel to its appetizing food. But let me give you a guide of what to get, ummmm everything! Jk. Everything is good but I'd go with the agua chile and/or shrimp tacos. Mouthwatering I tell you. Just make sure to specify the spicy level as things can get spicy really fast. The times that I've come here I've had to use my Spanish so not sure if they speak English. But learning Spanish for such amazing food is a small price to pay. Which reminds me about price; I believe it varies on the seafood market price, but it's definitely worth every peso.

When I first tried an aguachiles dish (by Rick Bayless, go figure), it consisted of raw yellowtail submerged in an acidic lemon juice and seasoned lightly with salt. NO chili pepper in the juice! A far cry from traditional! The aguachiles here is as traditional as they come. I selected a mild (1 chili pepper) and the TJ Queen of Seafood (apparently) went to work, crushing a chili pepper with a pestle into my giant mortar bowl. She then squeezed in a bunch of limes, cut in some cucumbers and onions, and seasoned lightly before adding the raw shrimp. WOW! My aguachiles was served straight up in mortar! Shrimp was clean, there was a nice touch of heat, and the liquid was pleasantly acidic. If you want more heat, they even have a multitude of bottles (over 10) with different sauces lined up for you to choose from. I am quite ashamed to admit that I have not had enough traditional Mexican food even though I grew up in Chula Vista surrounded by a ton of them. I believe Aquachiles may have become a new favorite. Hopefully my next dish will be as good as the one I had here!
