Which takes a lot. Chewy, but firm and soft. All the toppings were son well balanced. I honestly can't remember the last time I felt this way about Sopes. (I'll take a photo next time) In terms of ambiance I would say its what is expected sitting next to the road of a busy intersection in Van Nuys. This is LA. Love it or hate it. La Autentica Birrieria has become a weekend tradition for our family after my daughter's basketball…read moregames at a nearby gym. The food is consistently excellent, and it's easy to see why there's always a steady line of customers. The tortillas are made fresh by hand, and the birria always tastes like it was prepared that day. While it can take a little time to receive your order, that's part of what makes the food so good--you can tell everything is made fresh rather than sitting under a heat lamp. We've tried a variety of menu items over the years, including the asada tacos, goat birria, beef birria, birria ramen, and even the chicken quesadillas . Everything we've ordered has been flavorful and well-prepared. They recently started offering aguas frescas, which are delicious and pair perfectly with the food. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and they're generous with the salsas, letting you choose whichever sauces you prefer with your tacos. Don't skip dessert, either. We recently tried the gelatin dessert they started selling, and it was surprisingly delicious. Great food, fair prices, friendly service, and consistently fresh ingredients. We highly recommend La Autentica Birrieria and will continue coming back weekend after weekend.

The beef had a sour taste to it, was barely seasoned, and was overcooked. The beef kebab was okay flavor wise, but it was also overcooked and pretty dry. The rice was another issue. It tasted like it was made with chicken bouillon, which doesn't work well with the meat or the entire meal as a whole. The hummus was very watered down, had almost no seasoning, and had a weird hint of sweetness to it. It honestly tasted like someone was trying to make hummus ice cream. The red salsa was probably my least favorite. It tasted like it had sugar added to it and almost no other flavor. Maybe I caught them on an off day, but based on this meal, I honestly don't understand the hype. I expected much better and left pretty disappointed. Hopefully they take the criticism seriously and improve because there is definitely room to do better.

I've also ordered a quesabirrieria in the past and that was good. You sit outside on their patio table and wait for the food. The weather is always good so you can always eat outdoor. They have a small parking lot in the back and you can usually find street parking. They recently opened a store front, right next to the to go area, where people can dine in but I have not been inside the restaurant. But I will say they do have a neon light that looks inviting.. The staff is kind. The price is pretty standard and priced well. It's always a good choice.

Usually, Most restaurants tend to overcook the beef and burn it, but here it was grilled just right -- perfectly cooked without being burnt, which I really liked. They also gave us three kinds of sauces, and all of them were delicious -- especially the yogurt sauce, which was my favorite. Wrapping the beef in a tortilla with salad and that yogurt sauce was so delicious. The staff were very friendly, and the food was so good, so I'll definitely be going back again.
