Been craving Al Pastor Tacos for a minute and since this place had great ratings and was on the way home, I decided come through. The stainless, Jersey diner exterior paired with the barstool counter/booths interior lend to an easy, casual atmosphere. The decor is definitely Mexican with the banderitas and the painted chairs. The two guys working there were the sweetest. As soon as I walked in, it was all about me. I mean, who wouldn't love that?!? My order came out. It was 4 mini tacos with onion and cilantro. They were sooooo yummy BUT, and I have to compare, I've had similar on a larger taco with 2 tortillas per taco so they didn't fall apart so much. Also, the green sauce didn't have too much flavor so I had to douse the tacos with it. All in all, the service was EXCELLENT, the place was comfy, and the flavor of the meat was delicious. $11 for mini tacos wasn't bad but it could've been better.

Birria tacos + birria soup. No queso

Been living off of Main Street since 2016 and been trying out the local cuisine. The tacos here are VERY good and authentic. I got the Birria tacos and my buddy got the Bistec tacos - both were exceptional. I purposedly got the birria tacos because it's not that common even among other similar places. Had a side of chips and salsa which was comfortably hot for me. Friendly service, local, delicious, and quick. What more can you ask for?!? Def coming here again!

This place has been on the list for a while now. The weather was nice and while I was doing some studying I decided that today was a good day to give them a try. Honestly, wish I've done so sooner. The churros were great, not greasy, had the right amount of cinnamon sugar and tasted wonderful. I got the Tacos de Birria, you get 3 per order they come w/onion, cilantro, and the little birria soup. All complemented each other and I tore them things up. The meat was well seasoned and the tacos held up pretty good even after dipping them into the soup! I also got the Enchiladas de Pollo en Mole Verde (Chicken Enchiladas in Green Mole) it came with a good amount of melted cheese on the enchiladas, served with a great and flavorful yellow Mexican rice and refried beans. Next time I'll order a side of rice, damn it was good! I'll definitely order from here again!

The staff was attentive and friendly. I always get lengua as that's one of my favorite cuts of meat. The tortilla was fresh and soft. The lengua cooked well and was not chewy nor salty. I also did not have my morning coffee and was getting a headache. The owner (I presume) was kind enough to provide me a cup of really strong joe which is not a menu item. The exterior will remind you of an old school diner. Two thumbs up!

I love the tacos here! The al pastor is authentic and almost as good as the ones in CDMX. The meat is cooked on the traditional rotating spit and served with onion and cilantro on soft corn tortillas. The green and red salsas add a nice element of heat and tanginess. They now have indoor and outdoor seating and the service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!!

Birria Tacos! Customer service is fine seems like a very busy joint. So my tacos wasn't what I expected but it wasn't bad. The soup and meat were on the salty side I asked for cheese but I just expected it to be melted down not like feta if I would have known wouldn't had paid the extra 1.25 for it . Tortilla was soggy but I would try again just wouldn't get this maybe something more simple. The place is nice but if you eat inside the ventilation isn't great!

    ouch.

If you are looking for day-old carnitas, tasteless beans, and rice, and some warm-hot salad and avocado on the plate then this is your restaurant. If you want to pay 25.00 for it, you are beaten. I got 5 bites in and chucked it. There is nothing "authentic or tasty" about this. Ask for some sauces, I did, they dont pack those either.

Glad I finally tried Tacos Locos. Had an excellent lunch here with Fresh Guacamole, solid chips, and great tacos. Great service and friendly blue collar atmosphere. They have 4 tacos for a very reasonable price $10-12, and they let me get 2 and 2, instead of all 4 of the same. Carnitas was close to perfect and Al Pastor was very very good. I forgot to ask if it's BYOB, but this would make a lovely $40-50 dinner spot with some wine. Parking on the side was easy. Going to have to try the Burrito and really everything they have here. They take credit cards. Old repurposed diner is cool too.

Birria Taco with no cheese ... I don't like cheese on my tacos!

Their lengua (tongue) tacos, shrimp ceviche, mole enchiladas, nachos, and horchata- holy shit! So good!!! I came here with 3 fellow yelpers and 2 kids who all approved! Upon being seated, Lupita's gave us a basket of yummy, crunchy, thick tortilla chips and salsa. Our table already had red tomato-based and green tomatillo-based sauces in jars as all-purpose condiments, both with shy spice that slowly builds. After a few minutes, we were served everything we ordered at the same time. To drink, their milk-based Horchata- spiced with cinnamon and hints of almond/sesame had just enough sweetness- so delicious! Their tasty Lengua Tacos impressed with the perfect texture of tender, marinated beef tongue uplifted by lime, onions, and cilantro. Then the Shrimp Ceviche was so fresh, so yum with a similar but more tomato-based preparation topped with fresh avocado. Then the Mole Enchiladas were all about the sauce (only available on the weekend) -so chocolatey, slightly smokey, and spicy! I didn't waste any of this. Their Nachos Special had the best toppings and a delightful black bean mash equally distributed among all chips. We couldn't leave this alone. Then Holy Guacamole! Their guac was really good and addictive, even without any spice. Finally, the Cheese Quesadilla was just meh- I wouldn't get this again, but everything else- YES, PLEASE!!!

I had the steak tacos and it was incredibly comforting and flavorful. The Horchata was great too. The service was okay -- not outstanding but not bad either. If you come from a Mexican family and are feeling homesick then this is absolutely the kind of place that will make you feel right at home. The staff is predominantly Spanish-speaking so keep that in mind if you plan to visit for the first time.

I especially love the outdoor dining area. It's really nice to sit outside when the weather is good. I just wish there was a little more seating available outdoors because it's such a great space. The inside is also very cute and lively, but it can feel a little crowded at times, especially during busy hours. One thing to keep in mind is that it's not the most handicap accessible, which may be difficult for some people. They also do not do separate checks, so that's helpful to know before going with a group. They are also closed Mondays. Overall, the food and atmosphere definitely make it worth visiting, and I would still recommend it to anyone looking for great Mexican food in South Orange.

This time, I stopped in on a Friday night to check out the upstairs. The drinks were a 10/10 -- absolutely delicious and strong without skimping. The daiquiri and the chips and salsa were definitely the highlights of the night. The food was just okay. The garlic shrimp were pretty good, but the rice lacked flavor and the refried beans were barely a tablespoon spread across the plate. We also had the shrimp cocktail appetizer, which was just alright -- the shrimp were a little tough. Service was great. The waiter was friendly and attentive and moved fast! Overall, it's a fun vibe and a great spot to hang out and catch up over drinks, but I'd come more for the bar than the food. There's a municipal parking lot a short walk from the main entrance.

They only have outdoor seating, and you have to go around the back for the dining area. I liked that they had games on each table (giant uno, giant Jenga) so it seems like a cool spot to meet up with some friends. There was some sort of taco special going on (2 for $8, but add $1 if it's a seafood taco). Here is what we ordered: -Pork belly taco (roasted pork belly, salsa verde, pickled red onion) - definitely my favorite. The pork was so tender and flavorful -Lobster taco - (chilled lobster, chipotle aioli, red onion, corn, avocado, blue corn hard shell) - this was kind of like a lobster salad but I really liked it. I considered ordering another one of these two but I was already full from the additional pork belly taco -Crispy fish taco (panko breaded white fish, lettuce, pico, chipotle mayo, flour tortilla) - this was a solid fish taco -Spicy jerk chicken taco (roasted chicken thigh, mango salsa, crema, pickled onion, guacamole) - this one was my least favorite. The chicken was dry, and it's pretty hard to overcook chicken thigh -Birria burrito lunch special - my husband ordered this one and it was soo dry. Since it said birria, we thought it would have come with consommé, but it didn't. I don't think that would have helped much though. Lunch specials come with your choice of yellow rice & black beans, salad, or fries. He chose fries and they tasted like when you have leftover fries from McDonalds and pop them in the toaster oven the next day (not good) -Chicharron - tough and dry As I mentioned, this spot is a little far for us so I would probably only go back if I was ever in the area for some more pork belly and lobster tacos.
