The place is small so you can feel the AC really well. I would have gave this place a 5 star but unfortunately, the staff missed out on the customer service part. The staff member that was taking my order got distracted and lost connection of my presence. My order was 3 tacos (grilled chicken, al pastor, and azada) and let me tell you- the meat had great marination and it was juicy. The tacos come with cilantro, onions and they also add beans; which I didn't mind at all! Once my order was ready, I was asked if I wanted salsa; so I picked the green salsa- and OMG- the salsa is amazing, it feels creamy and a great balance of heat level, so the tacos taste really good. I will go back if I am in the area.

Definitely recommend checking this place out! Try to come early, especially on weekends, because it gets really packed. It's not a big of a place so gets busy, ambiance is very casual.

First I need to say that Jose rocks and was so so kind and the free birria taco he gave me was…read moreincredible. Best consommé I've ever had. Now for the bad news: I hate to write this review because everyone was so immensely nice but the super burrito was genuinely a let down and honestly difficult to finish. Problems: the burrito is enormous and incredibly mushy. So mushy that I literally couldn't lift it up without it flopping around. There is just zero structural integrity because the tortilla wasn't toasted/seared. The lengua was almost too soft which is crazy to say but the whole thing felt like baby food in my mouth. There was also no texture. Other than the meat everything else just tasted like one homogeneous mush. That also compounded with the flavors because they were all one mush as well. I couldn't tell there was sour cream in the burrito and it didn't taste like there was any salsa either. All to say there was nothing to cut through the fatty oily taste of everything else in the burrito. The tortilla was soft and oddly wet too. Overall, I cannot recommend the burrito here. It's not worth $20. How to improve: add more rice/lettuce/beans/something hard for texture (maybe even cook the meat longer to make it not so soft), and add more sour cream or lime or salsa to cut through the fat. Finally and most importantly grill or sear the tortilla at the end to give it some structural integrity. I really hate to write this review but I was just so disappointed after such an excellent experience in the restaurant. I'll be coming back but I won't be ordering the burrito.

Feb 2 2025 3.5 stars…read more Lately our go to Mexican eats is Cinco De Mayo in Martinez. Christians-smh. It is Sunday and Cinco is closed. The server and service here at Isla was perfect. I pointed out to he waiter that he had a crumb on his chin and he wiped and chuckled like a nice champ. The music is pleasant but a bit louder than needed so I brought out the earplugs. The entire indoor setup is nice. Our food is arriving after what seems like a long wait meaning either the food is being served fresh, hot and tasty, or we are in for a mediocre experience. Our two plates arrived. Chilli relleno and Grilled chicken enchilada. I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of the smallish squair white plates. Reminds me of trying to look upscale. We own plates like these and that didn't work. Wife's enchilada plate was covered with three hot and very tasty chicken filled food bombs plus sides. The chili plate looked a little weak (too much plate showing) but that was the tastiest chilli relleno ever in 40 years of me enjoying these. Served hot with cheese filled up to the ying yang, an extra spiciness I have never had before that I loved and me wishing I had a spoon to scrape up the end of the sauce. Unfortunately the smallish rice and bean servings on both plates were luke warm and tasted so so. . I had similar hotter to those with tv dinners back in the day. The two plates and a coke at $43 has me scratching my chin on whether we will make that drive again. That is unless it is Sunday. Then possibly. .

I ordered way more than I expected because everything looked so good, and now I'm stuffed with a whole bag of leftovers to take home. The horchata was absolutely delicious, like truly top-tier. Cold, creamy, and the perfect balance of sweetness. And the best part? It was all super affordable for the amount and quality of food you get.
