I didn't expect to write a restaurant review about black beans, but here we are. Everything we had…read moreat El Epazote Cocina Regional was good, and those beans were exceptional. When a side dish that usually gets barely a mention becomes a highlight, that tells you something about the care and quality coming out of the kitchen. That care carried all the way through dessert--we finished with a wonderful cactus pear sorbet. Authentic food, attention to the little things, and Maria was fantastic. She deserves a special mention for making our visit that much better. All this in an old Taco Bell building. There's something pretty great about that. This joint is well worth a visit. Come hungry, save room for dessert, and pay attention to those black beans.

The enchiladas, rice, and beans were so yummy and flavorful. The rolled tacos were nice and crispy filled with chicken. They came with fresh toppings and a black bean sauce that was an incredible twist to my typical dipping sauce. Nonetheless, a perfect combination that I will want again and again. The carne asada tacos and sopes were both good as well. The carne asada was full of flavor and juicy tender. Service: The lady at the counter was very sweet. I placed my order for pick up via door dash and waited for my order outside because I had my dog with me. She was kind enough to bring my order outside for me and was generous with offering the extra sope. Thank you! Ambience: Cute little place with some indoor and outdoor seating. Small place, but mighty in taste.

Compa Franks is truly one of Madera's hidden gems. From the moment the food hit the table, you…read morecould tell everything was made with care and packed with flavor. The Molcajete was the standout dish of the night. It arrived sizzling hot and loaded with perfectly cooked meats, seafood, fresh vegetables, and a rich, savory sauce that tied everything together. It was hearty, flavorful, and easily one of the best Molcajetes I've had. The mussels were another favorite. Honestly, everything tasted like it came straight out of someone's mother's kitchen--in the best way possible. The food had that homemade, comforting quality that's hard to find these days. The portions were generous, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere had that cozy, family-owned feel that makes you want to come back again.

As soon as we looked over the menu, my mouth was already watering. We ordered the aguachiles verdes, the molcajete supreme, and I added a side of fries. When I say the food came out fast, I mean FAST, especially for food this fresh. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and checked in just enough without being overbearing. The aguachile was honestly one of the best I've had. The green sauce was incredibly flavorful, perfectly balanced, and everything tasted fresh and vibrant. The molcajete supreme did not disappoint. The sauce was rich and delicious, and the portion of carne and shrimp was generous and very satisfying. You can tell care goes into the food here. And somehow, even the fries were amazing .... crispy, hot, and the perfect side. If you're passing through on your way to Yosemite, this place is absolutely worth the stop. We'll definitely be back.
