I am rooting for Sweet Chimneys, as I do for most local places…read more I tried Sweet Chimneys when I won a giveaway on Instagram that they did in conjunction with Thirst Drinks. I had the biscoff and Heath, and my friend had the cream cheese with fruity pebbles, if I remember right. I almost didn't want to eat it because it was so beautiful. Don't worry though, I ate it. The whole thing. I took a picture first. Don't worry about that either. So! These weren't what I expected. I think I expected more of a churro type treat--cruncy and cinnamon sugary. It wasn't like that at all. It's not even really like a waffle, or very crispy on the outside, if that's what you're expecting. It is different, and hard to explain. The dough is thin, but not like a crepe. It's more like a cinnamon roll type of dough, but not in flavor. The shape is neat. It's fun to kind of "unravel" it to eat it. Since they give it to you hot, the spread kind of melts and falls down the middle, which is good for dipping, but dangerous for dripping, so beware. Chimneys are a new take on treats, and definitely worth a try.

I wish the staff would've told me about the 30 minute wait. These are traditional Hungarian cakes rolled into a cone shape with your choice of 1 spread and 1 topping, and optional whipped cream with extra cost. Simple menu, very limited options. I got the Nutella with candy cane sprinkles. The cake itself is lightly sweet. I was expecting the texture to be soft and spongy but it's more of a crispy cake. The cake is rolled first and then Nutella is spread across the inside of the cone. The toppings are added to the brim of the cone. If you want whipped cream, it'll be in the center of the cone. I thought it was delicious but it was quite expensive to pay $7 (including tax) for something that is so minimal. Personally, I wouldn't try it again because there was not a wow factor and the ingredients are simple. Good for the novelty, not fulfilling for $7.

You definitely need to come early if you want to get the oxtails because they sell out real quick. I got the fried catfish with Mac n cheese and dirty rice. The catfish was fried very well and the fish was very flaky and not fishy at all. The dirty rice and Mac n cheese were also good. They seem to have run out of things as time goes on so it's more of what they have left if you come later. The staff was very nice and the food can take some time to wait.

I ordered the fried catfish plate with collard greens and cornbread. The catfish was perfectly golden and crispy on the outside while staying juicy and flaky inside -- seasoned beautifully without being greasy. The collard greens were tender and flavorful without being overly salty, really seasoned perfectly and the cornbread had a great texture -- moist and warm but not overly sweet. And then some bonus surprise hush puppies that were so so good! Crunchy on the outside, soft and savory inside -- it really rounded out the meal and left me smiling. Prices are fair for the quality and portion size (my plate was $21), and the service vibe was friendly and welcoming. Their menu's stacked with everything from Big South Wings to ribs and jambalaya, and I'm already thinking about what to try next. Follow them on Instagram @bigsouthslc to see where they're going to be next. If you're craving serious Southern comfort food, Big South is a must. One of the best food trucks I've hit in a while -- no question.
