This is the only restaurant I've ever ordered them twice. As a matter of fact, I have ordered them from Chalo's Tacos at least 90 times over the years. Their masa to filling ratio is perfect! We love Pork Tamales so that is what we always order. One time they were out of pork so we ordered a combination of tamales, some chicken and I think the others were spinach and cheese. They were excellent as well. Another favorite of mine, when I stop in to eat there, is their Pork Torta! Their bread is so nice and crusty on the outside and so soft and lovely on the inside and, of course, their filling has a beautiful concert of flavors. When they have it, they also make a flan that is full flavored and silky smooth. This is not a fancy place, but I don't always need fancy. I'll take well prepared, great tasting food every single time!

This last time we sat at the bar and the service was lacking, but it looked like they were short staffed. However, they did acknowledge their delays and try to be more accommodating. This time we tried the taco shots and I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but they were awesome and arguably full size not shot size! The ambiance is good. When the bill came, we noticed he had been charged $11 for chips and salsa, which was shocking. We've eaten here many times, and chips and salsa have always been complimentary with a meal, so this caught us completely off guard. When we asked about the charge, our server explained that because my friend didn't order food, she had to charge him for the chips and salsa. While I understand that restaurants have policies, I tried to find a simple solution by asking if she could just add his drink to my ticket since I had ordered a meal anyway. She told me she still couldn't do that and said we would have to pay the charge regardless. What made the situation even more confusing was that she acknowledged chips and salsa come with a meal, yet there seemed to be no flexibility to resolve such a small issue. It wasn't even about the money--it was the lack of consistency and customer service. As regular customers who come here often, it was disappointing to be treated this way over something that could have been handled much more reasonably. A little understanding or willingness to work with us would have gone a long way. I'll continue to say that the food is excellent, and Carlos continues to be one of the best employees here. However, this experience left a bad impression, and I hope management reviews how situations like this are handled so loyal customers don't leave feeling frustrated.
