I too am a local successful business owner and feel the need to weigh in on this one. In my years of experience in owning and running my own business, the most important thing is providing excellent customer service. It is more important to retain a good customer than to lose one over a few dollars. I have read the post by Drew C. a few times. He claims he shopped at this store for over 5 years. That implies he must have been at least a reasonably good customer. It was only recently he claims to have had 'a pretty terrible experience'. No information is given about that experience, but the owners probably realized this customer of 5 years was now unhappy. Drew C. then says the problem was with a warrantied product and it's shipping charge of $17.00. Without knowing any particulars it seems to me that if this store wants to retain the business of long time customer, they probably could have persuaded the vendor to pay the shipping cost, not their customer. Or eat that cost this one time. The long term results of alienating customers over a few dollars is not a good long term business strategy. This customer clearly has, and will almost certainly continue to tell people about his bad experience. The result may be nothing, or this little store may lose future business. This company may also gain the reputation that they do not care about their customers. And anyone in business these days knows there are plenty of other places to shop. Who knows who is right or wrong here, but in my humble opinion Tacoma Scuba will pay over the long term for their decision to lose this customer and keep $17. read more

I can clearly remember the first time I went into Tacoma scuba. The staff were extremely helpful and most importantly the store actually had what I was looking for in stock. Unlike many dive shops in the area, Tacoma scuba stocks items that customers often want to buy. Who wants to buy something that they have to wait several weeks or months for after ordering it? In addition, their service department is unparalleled. They use the highest quality parts and go beyond the usual to ensure that the equipment they service is in perfect working order. I brought my drysuit in for 2 new wrist seals and 2 new pockets glued on, and I received my suit several days later. They had even taken the time to patch a small scrape on the knee and didn't charge me. Their customer service is excellent! I am sure that if you take the time like I did to check out all the dive shops in the Tacoma area, you will find that Tacoma scuba is simply the best scuba shop around. read more

WARNING: Do not shop at Tacoma Scuba Center! I've shopped at this store for over 5 years. Until recently they seemed interested and concerned for there customers satisfaction and well being. But times have changed. The owners seemed to have lost interest in anything besides making a buck. After a pretty terrible recent experience, I was expected to pay $17.00 for a shipped product. In my opinion, it might have been in their own interest to wave that minuscule charge in an effort to retain me as a customer. They chose to take the few bucks and piss off a long term customer. Now they have also persuaded me to post on social media their unacceptable behavior. In effect, they have made an enemy of me. I'ell be interested to see if my tweets and posts will cost them more than $17.00! There are many dive shops in the Northwest. No one needs to put up with unprofessional service and immature behavior. read more

I have been diving in this area for many years, since 1993. I have seen scuba shops come and go. In all those years of using dive shops I have never seen a shop as good as Tacoma Scuba. They are exceptionally good at customer and equipment service. They only carry quality dive gear. You will not see a low end piece of equipment in their store. That is important to me as scuba equipment is life support equipment. I have enjoyed joining in on their shop dives and having fun engaging in conversation just hanging out at the store. All around Tacoma Scuba has everything you need in a dive shop. From entry level beginner expertise on up to the advanced technical training and equipment. Great dive shop with all the dive goodies you could possibly want and anything that isn't in there they can order for you. They have an excellent air fill station with the ability to mix any gasses you need from basic Nitrox to Trimix and Argon for your dry suits. The shop is often mistaken for a strictly technical dive shop and this simply isn't true. Most of the customer base and classes going on are recreational. So it's a shop that distinguishes itself from the majority of others because they really can do it all. It's a fun place to go look at gear and of course, talk scuba. read more

In 2015 I went into Tacoma Scuba to buy a drysuit. The young guy I initially encountered was rude and condescending. He did not seem interested in my lack of knowledge of drysuits. The bald guy, I think the owner was helpful, but seemed kinda dumb. I left that day to try again a few weeks later. On that next visit there was a woman in the tank area. She was very rude to me and to helpful. I decided to shop at Bubbles Below and have been very, very happy. This store is also in kinda a bad area of Tacoma. read more

Tacoma Scuba is hands down my go to shop for any of my commercial diving and scuba supplies. Being in this industry and traveling around the world Tacoma Scuba has always came through with any last minute Bare wetsuits, drysuits, Gloves, Spyderco and Benchmade Knives. Josh and Kalen have always gone above and beyond in getting repairs to all of my suits and equipment done, even when it's the last minute and I am leaving for another job. I've been living and scuba diving in this area for about 4 years after moving here from San Diego. Searched for a shop in my area and found this one. Tried them a few times but the store is dirty and cluttered. Since then I've been shopping at TLC and Underwater Sports. They both have great staff, good prices and are not like walking into a smelly old closet in someones basement. UWS also has a few locations around the area so I can easily google where to get air or a mask at almost any time. read more

Tacoma Scuba is one of the top Dive shops in the Area. They are honest, and don't try and sell you a bunch of crap you don't need. It's a real shop, for real divers. Side note, Kalen does very nice Drysuit repair work. I have brought her several suits of mine to work on, everything she does looks perfect. Their compressor station and mixing ability are second to none. and they can create exotic mixes with perfect accuracy. From rec to tech, this is where you should be going. read more

This is an excellent shop located in down town tacoma, the owner's passion for diving shows in the quality of there shop. In my 15 years of diving I've seen a lot of dive shops all over the country and the world and this one is truly deserving of a five star rating! I live over an hour away from this shop but I stop in to say hi anytime I'm passing through Tacoma. Ok so this shop rocks! The air fill station is one of the most incredible I have ever seen. Where they need one filter they have 3! Also the owner are just nice people if you need something they either have it or will get it. And if you are not sure what you need no worries because they will take the time to teach you all about the items you are looking at. Really it is just the best shop I have ever been to. read more

Tacoma Scuba is a great shop which offers premium dive gear, service, and repair. The staff is knowledgable and experienced divers who have a passion for the sport. As a result the shop provides the whole package of a great scuba experience. (Including great monthly meetings where various diving subjects are covered in a comfortable social setting.) Best dive shop around, Joshua is a gear Master and always has great info on where to be diving. An incredible teacher and mentor for those learning to dive as well as those looking for the more technical adventure. Tacoma SCUBA will always be the shop I Dive out of regardless of where I live. I dropped a brand new pair of expensive prescription sunglasses over the side of my boat. Fortunately I was tied up in the slip at the time, so I new exactly where they were. One call to Tacoma Scuba and within 24 hours they were back on my head. The diver got right back to me and drove out to assist the next day. Great service! read more
