This place is great. A modestly sized taqueria putting out some huge, delicious tacos. You walk in past the colorful murals to place your order at the counter, then have a seat in the colorful, sticker bombed patio waiting for your food. We came in on a Tuesday and it only took about 5 or so minutes to get our order. And the staff were very pleasant and friendly. I ended up getting pastor, fish, and lobster tacos. The pastor was seasoned well, juicy, and decently zesty. The lobster was super buttery, pleasantly firm and with an honestly surprising amount of lobster meat. And the fish was our favorite, fresh yet pleasantly fishy and topped with plenty of cotija. My partner also got carnitas and chile verde, which were similarly delicious. And these are *huge* tacos piled on top of house made herbed tortillas with a decently strong corn flavor. Some of the best tacos I've had in recent memory. Also, our margaritas were delicious. I'm not even a tequila person and I liked it. Maybe because I was on an empty stomach but it hit *hard,* was strong without tasting like it. They have special pricing on Tuesdays, and it was packed when we went. Not oppressively busy but it was popping. And things move so fast you don't really notice, you just find yourself in a bustling patio filled with tacos. I wish their salsa was spicier, though. read more

I have heard great things about Taco Mesa before this so I was excited to see how the food was. You order at the counter and grab your salsas/toppings before heading to their covered outdoor patio for seating. There were plenty of tables available, and they even allowed our group to combine tables so we could all sit together. I ordered three tacos and I was worried about the portion sizes but these were hefty sized tacos. The al pastor was flavorful, and the carne asada was well charred. Don't get me wrong.. the food is really good and I love the fact they are mostly organic and don't use seed oils BUT they are always out of 1/2 the items on their menu! Taco Mesa is brand new to Anaheim Hills. I've been to their Costa Mesa location too. However the Anaheim Hill location is very unique! While other fast food use unhealthy oils such as seed oils, sunflower oil, palm oil, vegetable oil, ect. TAco Mesa uses NO seed oil their chips are made from Tallo and vegetarian. They use healthy oils! Yes, it may be pricy but isn't your health worth it ? If you are going to do fast food make it healthy. Our family ordered the kids black beans and cheese, kids chicken taco on flour tortillas. Steak tacos and chicken tacos. My husband can't eat dairy so he requested no dairy plain. Service is top notch. The Young lady too g our order was very friendly, helpful and answered our questions. She even let us sample the chips. Completely come out and check it out. Okay hear me out.... HORCHATA! The horchata here is the best!!! Seriously, so much cinnamon and tasted legitimate. We loved that alone. Taco Mesa is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that are hidden gems. From the aesthetics and look of this place, you wouldn't expect much. The seating is all outdoors and not super comfortable. You have to deal with the wind and flies/ gnats trying to steal your food. All of that is annoying. But.... The food is really good. We ordered two Chile relleno plates, an order of tacos, chips and guacamole, an horchata and a regular drink. The chips have a unique taste, lots of flavor. These are not your typical chips. The guacamole is super fresh! We loved that. I even took the guacamole and ate that with my Chile relleno plate. The Chile relleno plate has a little heat. If you are like me and can't handle spicy, this might be a challenge for you too. Every bite, I downed some horchata LOL My boyfriend loved his Chile relleno plate and tacos. He started having stomach issues (not related to the food), and he couldn't finish his food. But he wanted to finish it. I ate most of my food, and really liked the rice and beans. The chicken seemed too charred. But I was hungry, so I just ate it regardless. Chicken wasn't really juicy, more on the dry side. Their chips have an extra added seasoning that's so tasty. I came for Taco Tuesday and got the shredded beef, shredded chicken, and pastor tacos (I asked for what was most popular since this was my first time and those are what he said) and a mango margarita. shredded beef and shredded chicken come w a hard shell and have additional toppings compared to the pastor. out of the three, pastor was my personal favorite because the meat was soo flavorful. the other two were decently good as well, just the flavor of the meat wasn't as pronounced to me. I absolutely love their self-serving toppings/salsa bar because I am guilty of being that person asking for extra everything, so it's nice to be able to fully help myself and not bother someone else for it. The mild and medium salsas were my favorite (they were pretty much the same spice level tbh both were mild). Now lemme get started on their pickled carrots and ONIONS, especially the onions. They're absolutely delicious. I am a fiend for pickled veggies and these were so good to include when taking a bite out of my taco or as a follow up bite for some crunch and acidity. I have had carrots served with my tacos at some other places, but nothing like this. The ones I've had before were bland and flavorless while these ones were a delightful burst of subtle pickly tastiness. the mango marg was pretty good, but could use more tequila imo. it was pretty sweet and juicelike. i do appreciate that it is a decent size tho and came with a salted rim. also, this location only has outdoor seating. Recently returned to the "Mesa" after many years. So many options here in Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa doesn't always come to mind. Well, 2 weeks back it was my choice for tacos on a Tuesday so I wanted to revive my love for Taco Mesa. She had the hard shell chicken and soft carnitas taco. I chose the fish and shredded beef hard shell. Everything was outstanding and memories were confirmed. Fast forward another week and the wifey wanted a repeat (rerun). Well we duplicated our same order but started with chips and guacamole....a great appetizer! Well, afterwards we both remarked that our hardshell tacos weren't as good as previous. The food is so fresh and has such great flavor. Guarantee it will surpass your expectation. The outside will deceive you, you have to walk in and eat here if you're in the area. I just took a friend from out of town and he was not believing me when I told him what to expert from the food. One bite and he looked at me and just said "No way!" Came here on a Friday afternoon with my friends after pickleball because they wanted delicious Mexican food and recommended this place to me. They told me how good this place is and I definitely had to try it! Coming here you see they only have outside seating and you order from the inside. My friend recommended me their crispy beef taco and their steak torta which we both got and shared. Steak Torta- with the beans and rice it was definitely a great combination. The steak was flavorful and with their salsa it added some delicious spice to it. Their breading too was good and it was slightly sweet too! Overall would highly recommend it! Crispy Beef taco- to be honest I thought this was going to be grounded beef however it ended up being shredded beef! The beef was delicious and the taco shell was not bad. Overall this place is awesome! They have great customer service and they have the salsa bar out. They also have onions and carrots. Their aqua Fresca is also not sweet and it's delicious too.
