The staff at El Sabor were genuinely friendly, and the presentation of my Torre Mulegé was…read morestunning. It arrived as this dramatic, beautifully constructed tower of mixed seafood topped with avocado and a whole shrimp--definitely a dish that makes an entrance. The seafood seemed fresh, but I discovered that this particular style of mixed mariscos just isn't for me. Some of the seafood had a gray, translucent appearance and texture that I personally didn't enjoy. That may simply be characteristic of the preparation rather than any problem with the dish. I only tried this one item, so I don't think it would be fair to judge the kitchen more broadly based on my personal preference. What I can comment on much more definitively is the noise. It was extraordinarily loud. I eventually pulled out my phone and measured the sound level because I genuinely wanted to know whether it was as loud as it felt. I recorded levels exceeding 100 dB, with peaks around 103 dB. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. Unfortunately, I could barely hear them. I enjoy energetic restaurants and certainly don't expect dinner to take place in a library. But there's a point where "lively atmosphere" becomes something prospective customers deserve to know about before deciding where to spend an evening. This crossed that line for me. If a very high-energy, extremely loud environment is your thing, you may have a completely different experience. If you're hoping to have a conversation over dinner without shouting across the table, I'd choose accordingly. Friendly staff, impressively presented food, and a seafood dish that simply wasn't my jam. But the volume overwhelmed everything else about the experience--and at 103 dB, that's not background music. That's the main course.

There was a line when we got there, but went in and put our name on the list and within a couple of minutes we were called in to a table. The hostess was very sweet and our waitress was fantastic! We ordered the salsa especial. What it wasn't hot at all and it was just OK. I prefer Ted's atomic salsa flavor wise and it's complementary whereas it's an extra charge here. Chips and queso were plentiful and the tortillas were good and chewy! We ordered beef, taco tacos, chimichanga, and the enchilatrada. All were good. Sopapillas were warm and fluffy, as they should be! Honestly, the best part were the people. Everyone was so friendly and our waitress checked on us over and over and made sure we had everything!

It was very busy when we walked in but there was no wait. We were thankfully seated immediately and started off with chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crispy, but the salsa was mediocre. The tomatoes tasted canned. While I can totally get the efficiency behind using canned tomatoes for a busy restaurant, the taste is not preferred. The kids chicken quesadilla plate was a good amount of food! I just wish the quesadilla was already sliced as it was for our 3 year old. The chicken was also bland. Again, the portions were great. My son ordered the Burrito La Herencia with ground beef and this was seasoned well. Again, great portions of beans, rice & main dish. No complaints with this one! My spouse ordered the La Herencia fajita special and felt as if it was lacking. The steak pieces were minuscule and the shrimp was bland and undercooked. The pork chop was thinly sliced which was nice but VERY salty. We were wishing for more peppers and onions as well. Overall this dish was salty, but tolerable! It came with a side plate of rice, beans, pico de gallo, guac, sour cream & lettuce. Served with flour tortillas. We ordered the queso & guac while we were looking at the menu and waiting. I personally did not enjoy the queso. It was thick and had an artificial mouth feel. The guac was decent! Bland overall but I love the taste of avocado. I wish it had more lime and seasoning though since it was supposed to be Guacamole and not avocado dip. I ordered the Steak Mexicano with extra jalapeños and this was very good. Still on the salty side but I enjoy things on a SLIGHTLY saltier range. My spouse thought the steak was TOO salty. The peppers, onions, and tomatoes were nicely sautéed and seasoned. The rice here is also DELICIOUS. I hate a bland Mexican rice. The beans were good too but nothing to write home about. I do wish I was offered a side of corn tortillas. Overall this experience was okay! Not the worst but definitely not the best. The restaurant was beautifully decorated but there was a noticeable lack of music.
