Got the steak tacos and house made chips and dip flight for pickup. Hands down, THE BEST steak tacos I have ever had. And I have eaten a lot of steak tacos. The steak was fantastic and all accoutrements were tasty. The guacamole and pico de gallo were also fantastic. 110% will order again. Restaurant ambience seemed very clean and nice during pickup. Upscale taco offerings with upscale price. My party had three types of tacos, mango braised pork, al pastor, and tequila lime chicken. All proteins come in cube format. Pulled meat or fresh cut off the spit is not what you get here but they were all tasty. The Tacos are "street" sized tacos no larger than the palm of your hand. The taste is there but I wish they were larger. I guess I'm used to mom and pop taco places. For drinks we had the limeade, habanero infused margarita, and the strawberry margarita. We had a kid who doesn't like fizz so they accommodated us by making the limeade without fizz which I commend. The habanero margarita should've been called a haba-zero margarita because there was nothing that tasted like spicy including the jalapeno slice as garnishing The best drink was the strawberry margarita. Nicely sweet and was refreshing. Both were served in tiny tea cups which I assume why the drinks we under $8. Taco entrees were served with esquites (think fancy elotes sans cob) which was tasty. I wouldn't mind coming here again but I'd avoid the cocktails and just go with the daily special menu for a better bang for the buck. read more

Such a disappointment :( never got our order. My girlfriend and I were super excited to try this place out and find a great breakfast burrito place here in Madison as the reviews and food looked fantastic. We arrived within the breakfast menu hours and liked the vibe and ambience of the restaurant. It wasn't overly busy and it had a nice little buzz about it. The waitstaff was polite and attentive and we got our order in to try the breakfast burrito as well as the breakfast tacos, how exciting! Unfortunately things started to go downhill from here. Shortly after placing the order our server came back to let us know they were almost out of eggs and could only make the burrito or the tacos. A bit disappointing since those are the two prominent menu items drawing people in for a Saturday brunch adventure. Oh well, we thought - at least we get to try one of them. Almost breakfast burrito time! Our troubles continues as something must have gone wrong with our order from there. We sat and waited, and waited some more, watching other patrons continue to come in and out getting their food while we waited. Our server checked in frequently to ensure we had water and such along the way so we thought maybe something was just taking longer than usual. About an hour into waiting on our food after the restaurant completely cleared out with just one other couple in the entire space who were at the bar, it started getting busy for lunch. Our server came over to let us know there was an issue with the printer and that our order ended up getting missed. By this point we were pretty hungry and she politely asked if we wanted it to go. We were fine with it at this point as we had things to do and needed to get going. I figured our order would be the first thing out since it was just a single burrito but we saw a few pickup orders and another dine in order come out and still no sign of ours so after about 15 more minutes we decided to just leave and let the server know. As we were walking away she came out to check if we wanted the food quick as it had just come up. By that point we were super over it and on the way to get a bite elsewhere. Thank goodness for Madison Sourdough (the breakfast sandwich was amazing there!). I'm sure this experience is not a reflection on how the restaurant normally runs but this is still super disappointing, especially for this area of Madison with so many great choices for breakfast/lunch on a Saturday. Maybe next time if we decide to give it another shot, I can update this with a more positive review. read more

Amazing food...meh service. We went for my birthday a few days ago. We ordered our food and waited over 45 mins for it to arrive. At last I saw a plate of food in the service window and since we were the last ones to get our food I figured it had to be ours. Apparently something was wrong with the order. Before I know the hostess took the food back in the kitchen, shut the barn door, and the cook and two hostesses started eating the food! No one said a word to us or to check if we needed more drinks. My husband finally went to the bar where the bartender was taking it all in. He comped my husband's beer since we had "been waiting a while". Our food finally arrived and then they said they would comp all our drinks for the long wait. No return during our meal to ask how it was, nor to see if we needed anything while we ate. Again, food was amazing, fresh, and filling. Service was awful. Not sure if we will be back. read more

This place has the best happy hour in town!! You can get awesome margaritas and good sized food portions for a great bang for your buck! I love the ambiance of Taco Local - it's so cozy. We loved our steak tacos, chef's choice quesadilla, and seasonal margaritas. Our one critique is that we were disappointed with the chips and dips : queso, GUAC, and Pico. It's very small, intimate, casual and quiet. Very easy to walk right by it without noticing it is there. Well curated and intentional about everything they do down to the simple syrups from scratch, the wood plates and pottery that they use. It's about the flavor and the quality of all the ingredients, not quantity. They believe in their model and are students of the craft. You can't go wrong with this place. Easy to overlook and not flashy, but bounce per ounce they have it where it where it counts. Very nice people as well. Always helps. read more

Been here 2 times so far and each time the experience has been great. At first they bring out your 3 tacos and you automatically think, these are so small. It's an optical illusion I promise! Super fun little joint where Underground Meats used to be. The whole look and setup gives it a very intimate feel. Service was extremely prompt and no wait on a Friday at 7, which I think was due to how quickly they were getting food out! Great shrimp and chicken tacos, but portions were on the smaller side. What a great addition to the Willy Street dining pallette! Take the former Underground Butcher shop, save charm, add a minimalist kitchen and appropriately seat 24 guests. Very disappointed in the food--it has little relation to any Mexican cuisine, except for it being served in tiny whole wheat "tacos" that fall apart at the touch, thus preventing one from eating it as a taco is supposed to be eaten, as finger food. No evil beans, rice or cheese--my "Tequilla lime chicken taco" (sounded good) consisted of tiny bits of chicken and salad, no taste of lime, and of course no salsa. My partner's mango pork "just didn't work" and was also bland. Way overpriced for the small portions. There are several excellent Mexican restaurants in the Madison area, so much better than this ersatz BoHo stuff. read more

We've been doing mostly carry out orders, though had one lunch in the restaurant after completing our COVID vax process. Taco platters were very delicious, with the chopped salad and esquites as welcome sides in place of the ubiquitous beans and rice. A second vegetarian option would be nice, but the Jerk Sweet Potato and Zucchini Tacos were very good. The Ten Dollar Breakfast Burrito on the breakfast menu is an excellent deal and a creative take on a breakfast burrito. I popped into this place as an out of Towner. The staff is amazing and our waitress was awesome. They serve their tacos on handmade beautiful ceramic. Our guacamole was served in the avocado shell and it was really great. However; they had ONE vegetarian option on their entire menu... a sweet potato and zucchini taco. It's really not cool to give vegetarians only one option especially when that one option isn't good. The sweet potato and zucchini tacos were bland and they topped them with a tomato salsa which I found to be a very odd combination which made the whole taco kind of soggy and gross. If you're only gonna have one vegetarian option you better make sure it's banging with flavor. And I think in 2021 you can do better and at least have more than one option on the menu. I mean this is a restaurant on Willy Street can we be a little bit more progressive than having a menu with 12 meat tacos and one vegetarian taco? read more
