Alright. So I try not to give out 5 stars Willy nilly, but I've just had this place 2 times in less than 48 hours. So to begin with, the portions are perfect. I've had the burrito and burrito bowl and both are awesomely sized portions. Taste: 5/5 and that's not even including the salsa you get with it. It's all so fantastic. I can't get it out of my head that's how good it is. The service is ridiculously fast. Like by the time I ordered, it was pert near ready. Finally, I've got to say something about the churro bites. I've also ordered them 2 times and each time they're better than before. They taste like something you'd get at a county fair but about 10000% better for some sort of reference. Taco Libre undeniably has pretty good food, but the service leaves a LOT to be desired. I have been there several times and each time it seems the service gets worse. The employees will do anything they can to avoid helping customers waiting at the counter. If you do go, check your order at the counter and ensure it is correct before allowing the employee to disappear in the back again or you will wait a long time for someone to come help. The food is yummy, I will give them that, but it is wildly overpriced for the quality and quantity. $6.99 for a handful of chips and 4 ounces of queso is outrageous. There are much better dining options in the area that will actually provide a positive dining experience. read more

Honestly, my go to spot whenever we crave fast, tasty food, but not as unhealthy as actual fast food! For a chain in the middle of Minnesota, this place really knocks it out of the park. I'm from California and the tacos here are solid & legit - corn tortilla, cilantro, deliciously marinated meats. I ALWAYS get the pork varieties - super juicy. Beef is an extra $0.50 so we will maybe get one or two. My wife loves the value of the tamales too. ~$3 a piece - we always go for the chicken ones. It was pretty good overall. The beef tacos weren't all that but ok. The shrimp tacos on the second go round were on point. The however might as well had been table side. I'm not a big guacamole person but i will indulge occasionally. This was the highlight of my visits. I devoured the guacamole! It is a bit pricier than I'd think for a taco dinner too. I think for chip and guacamole it was $10+ by itself. But i paid that twice for that stuff. Hope they continue that at least. Oh and there's NO ALCOHOL here . Definitely one of the best fast food type Mexican restaurants in the Twin Cities! Wow, I really like Taco Libre - I wish there was one close to my house. There's a large variety of unique Mexican fare that make me love Taco Libre. You order up front and take a number. Pick where you want to sit and they bring the food out to you. They have multiple meat choices. There are 8 types of beef alone, including Tripa (the small intestines). They have unique ingredients like Flor De Calabaza (pumpkin flowers) and Huitlachoche (corn smut fungus). Of course, they have the standard soda machine. But they also have horchata, mango, and lime drink in 3 big Jetspray dispensers. They have a cooler with Mexican bottled sodas too. There's a big selection of self-serve sauces and toppings - awesome! Finally, they also have an assortment of Mexican sweets. If you're really hungry, you must try the "Machete"! It's an 18" long taco type item and you can order it with 2 different meats. It's big enough that 2 people could easily share. My only (minor) gripe is the self-serve salsa cooler. The labeling is goofy. It's hard to read (light colored lettering on the glass hood) and it's hard to determine which labels match which condiments. We finally figured out the labels but then we also found out that some of the sauces were in the wrong place. They have so many great salsas, I wish they took more time to label them better and put them in the right spot. I love the Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling) theme. Thumbs up! -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. We picked up Taco Libre after work the other day. It's been a while, because their prices went up - I couldn't imagine paying $15 for a quesedilla again! But, the wife and I were craving a machete. I got my usual, tinga, and my better half got the steak. The tinga was delicious, juciy and full of meat. The steak was so-so, not as much meat, and the meat that was there was dry and tough/stringy, which is what I have come to expect in Mexican food. Overall, my visits to Taco Libre have been a bit across the board, but for the most part I like the cut of its jib. The restaurant is still relatively new and like seemingly everything else these days is built around fast casual. Order at the counter, fill your drink, grab your salsas from the salsa bar and pop a seat until your food arrives. The Pambazo reigns supreme over anything I have tried here thus far and I'll make repeat appearances for it. The tamales and huarache are okay and the elote was forgettable (maybe it's better when corn is in season?). The menu is pretty broad and they offer a fair number of both meat and veggie options, so even the fussiest of eaters should be able to find something to stuff in their faces. Taco Libre is one of the better options to grab a quick lunch in the area and one that will likely be a staple in my rotation even if only for the occasional Pambazo. read more

Today we were craving tacos and decided to finally check out Taco Libre. We ordered a whole feast of five tacos, 2 tamales, 2 sides of rice, and a massive piece of tres leches. Inside is a nice open layout and an visible kitchen so you can see how everything is prepared fresh. Laid beautifully in authentic corn tortillas my favorite taco was the barbacoa beef taco, followed by the marinated chicken. I ordered traditional street tacos so I missed having cheese on my tacos but they were so delicious they didn't need it. Plus some limes to give it even more added flavor. After stuffing our faces we ended with a deliciously moist piece of tres leches. Will definitely stop here again to try more tacos! read more

Yummo! The giant machete with the asada steak is soooo good. I can't eat a whole one by myself so it's always a share with Steve plus a side of chips and salsa. They have a salsa bar and it's all you can eat with a variety of mild to so hot it melts your face off (just kidding, it would only melt my face. Steve can eat anything). Service is fairly quick. The tables are usually pretty clean. It has never been crowded when we go there so I hope they have the business to keep going since the food is so tasty. Taco Libre has great authentic Mexican food. I've been to mainland Mexico and the food here is comparable for sure. They also have locations in St. Paul and Edina. Everything tastes full of flavor here (except maybe the fish tacos, don't recommend). The menus are easy to read and the design of the restaurant is modern and fun. Clean environment overall too. Prices are maybe a little more than other Mexican restaurants in the area, but it's fast casual so everything comes out pretty quickly. Food: Chips & guac here are better than Chipotle's. Street tacos are a must-try (pastor and asada). Machete can feed two not as hungry adults if you get side dishes or two younger children. Rice is made well and tasty.
