My wife had an over-medium egg with hash browns, bacon, and toast (part of the "breakfast all day" theme). It was not special, but it was hot and done correctly. I had the Southwest Avocado Salad, which was very medium. The lukewarm chicken breast was cooked previously somewhere, and it had been seasoned with pepper. There were slices of avocado and some shredded American cheese (maybe from a plant in Arizona?). The "Chipotle Ranch Dressing" didn't seem particularly "southwestern" either. It had a roasted corn and black bean chutney over part of the salad, and it all showed up on a bed of chopped Romaine lettuce. Not bad, but not good either. We decided to eat at this Perkins since it adjoins our hotel, and we didn't feel like exploring Rapid City for food options after spending most of the day in a car. Better than resorting to the assortment of fast food nearby, and we were fortunate to have a friendly and efficient server.

What the heck is going on with McDonald's? There is…read moreabsolutely no customer interaction from the staff at this McDonald's in Rapid City, South Dakota. I ordered from the app so it's no big deal to me,but when I walked inside there were two older ladies trying to figure out these stupid kiosks. They were getting really aggravated trying to figure it out. I'm sorry to say that I offered my help and they looked at me like I was a predator and they told me they had it. I just told them no problem and backed off. It still took them a while to figure it out. Anyway, they had such a problem because this is the first McDonald's I've been in that had no cash register. I seen where it used to be but it's not there. I took a picture but it's hard to see but trust me, no register at all at the counter. However, on one of the kiosks, there is a sign saying they would come out and help if you needed it. Oh, and it also says if you're paying with cash, let them know and they would bring you your change. I'm assuming they would have to go to a cash box in the managers office to retrieve your change. This is all well and great but there is no staff paying attention to any customers needing help or paying attention to anything on the other side of the counter. This is just absolutely sad. What happened to you McDonald's? Good thing we only stopped here because we were traveling. I would never stop here again. I live in northern Illinois and most of the McDonald's around me have taken out the self serve drink stations but they still have a cash register and you can still talk to a real human being. But I fear they are all headed this way. McDonald's needs to take a look at Steak and Shake. They did this in the covid era and people don't go to these places anymore and a lot of them have closed. I ordered the $72 Tatanka Filet, medium, but it arrived well done. When I pointed it out, the explanation I received was that "toward the end of the night the grill is hot." At that price, I expected an apology and an offer to correct it, not an excuse. Even at the end of the meal, the service remained poor. When we asked for to-go boxes, Sig reached across the table and passed them directly in front of our faces instead of handing them to us courteously. Everyone can have an off night, but what disappointed us most was that no one acknowledged the issues or attempted to make things right. I mean they might as well have just done the same with the grilled onions since they were similar in portion size. This was my second time at this location and I am honestly a little surprised and disappointed, the other one I go to is usually fantastic and never misses a thing, they even prepare the food nicely.
