Unbelievably high prices for sub-par food. Fifteen dollars for a burrito combo that I could get at Taco Bell for 5 or 6? Why would I willingly pay that much for a burrito that looks like it was thrown together by someone who just doesn't care? Qdoba burritos might be 10 or 11 dollars, and I thought that was getting steep, but at least Qdoba -tastes like something-. I guess I need to get Taco John's once every 2 or 3 years just to remind myself what a poor value it always is. The older location had a salsa bar that was one of its redeeming features, but of course that's gone now. Instead, cashiers upsell guacamole and queso at steep prices. I received my order today in drive thru after getting home- crispy taco was broken in 6 places(had to eat it with a fork) taco burger bun wad so dry - you could not even chew it. The place is convenient spot, the food was hot but it took over 15 minutes... you can watch 3 people just standing at the food building area. And they didn't do anything for like 5 minutes. There's no manager making sure that the line needed to keep going. Also it's freaking cold inside! I just drove 6 hours from negative temperatures and it's just as cold inside. We hit up a couple locations on our road trip from AZ to SD. The breakfast burritos are so good! The steak was my favorite but the bacon is good too. The taco was comparable to Taco Bell but tasted better. Wish we had one in AZ. read more

Okay so I am an avid Taco Bell lover, so this pains me to say and I feel like I may even be shunned or something (I'm sorry Taco Bell???) but this place made my heart sing a little. I'm all for holiday hours but the open sign was on and all the lights were on so we figured that you were still open. Nope. We got to the drive thru the guy said we close at seven on the fourth. Used to work here and provided excellent service with my co workers but now it's a circus at this location the food is cold, the workers don't know what food is discounted, and on top of that they add uneven amounts of ingredients to make their food a soggy mess of nacho cheese and sour cream stay away from all rapid city taco johns in the nighttime because of crappy teenagers who can't do their jobs read more

Taco John's is by fare the best fast food Mexican restaurant around they use high quality food unlike Taco Bell which makes me sick if I eat there I have never been unsatisfied at Taco John's I always get their steak and potato burritos delicious I would recommend Taco John's to anyone who likes Mexican food. read more

Very americanized tacos. Its like trying too hard to be taco bell but not succeeding. Comes with Ole "hash browns" super good but totally doesnt fit with the tacos. I'd say if you're feeling taco John's, just go to taco bell instead. read more

I can't remember a time when I lived in Rapid City that I did not eat at taco John's and love it! When I was going to the school of mines taco John's was a staple of my diet and the diet of most people I knew! I always had their combination Burrito and potato o'lays, and it was always good! After graduating, we moved away but came back because we had family and on every single trip we had to go to taco John's! When they added the hot nacho cheese that was the most important thing to get! But, over the years it has gotten to the point where I can hardly tolerate the food temperature at taco John's anymore! Let me explain: the food seems to always come out at a Luke warm temperature that is just nasty! And it's not just the Rapid City taco John's it's every one of them from Colorado to South Dakota! And it is so disappointing, because, honestly the food would be pretty darn good even now, if the food was served hot like I remember it! There is nothing in my opinion more nasty than lukewarm beans and tacos, and when you put their delicious side sauces and extra goodies like pico de Gallo and jalapeños on your taco or whatever, it is just... Yuck. If I take the food home and heat it up it's good, but when I go back now all I will have is the potato lays with the nacho cheese. But, much to my dismay they've even changed the recipe or the kind of nacho cheese they serve with the potato o' lays.-- There used to be a little bit of spice in the cheese and now it is so Blend it is hardly worth getting any more so... Now I get to maintain the tradition of taco John's every time I go home, is just the potato o'lays. And by the way, they are always hot! So I appreciate that. I am giving three stars because if the food were served at the proper temperature I think it deserves the three stars. I would've given it five stars for the sake of good old times and the memory of how much better I used to think the food was... But with them changing the quality of their cheese and the one thing that was served hot... I had to take off two stars. So, if you would heat the food up to serve it at a proper hot temperature, I would bet more people would be coming back again and again! Because honestly taco John's is so much better than Taco Bell it is ridiculous! But, your food is nasty warm! Went through the drive through there today during lunch. The employee running the drive up was rude. When she handed me my drink it was covered in soda. I asked for a napking to clean the cup to which she responded that she would put some in the bag. I guess I didn't make myself clear -- she should have cleaned the cup off before handing it to me without a napkin. Then, when I got back to the office, I was missing the entrée from my combo meal & the potato ole's looked like they had sat in grease for 1/2 hour before they were served. I have been to the newly remodeled Taco John's twice. First time I drove through (only person in line) and it took 15 minutes to get one item. When I asked for hot sauce that added another 5 minutes. The second time I went inside. I was one of only a few customers but it took 20 minutes to get my order. The food was cold, the potato oles were very dry, and the chips were stale and overly salty. I tried to provide feedback using my receipt but realized I wasn't given one (or napkins). I have never had issues at the old location - for all the effort remodeling the building, the service and food seems to have gone by the wayside. read more
