The food and service are excellent, we are glad we found this place. Prices are very fair!

That is not even a place that can be called Mexican food . We had a table of 7 and the drinks we had were awful and the food even worse , not one in our party liked the food and I couldn't even finish mine , never go again read more

Great food, menu selection and family friendly restaurant. Don't miss this place on your next trip to Black Hills, Mount Rushmore or Crazy Horse. read more

Food, service, ambiance Never go wrong there! We love their burritos so big that we take half home. Their quesadillas are great they will even add peppers if you want So nice to have an excellent neighborhood Mexican Restaurant. read more

The staff were all friendly and polite but the food was a bit bland and lackluster. We tried it twice and had the same experience both times. Probably won't be going back. read more

Five stars for an authentic feeling mexican resturant, its casual inside but has a very traditional feel to it. The food is very good, and the drinks are cold and strong. All of my favorite things when eating out. No complaints with service, it was fast and friendly. read more

Visiting from Houston we thought we'd try the Mexican food (why not!). Surprisingly really good, ambience and decor were nice, service quick, and about as authentic as you would expect in South Dakota... give it a try! read more

Always friendly staff! Fun atmosphere! Yummy food! The asada street tacos are enough for 2! Great chips & salsa. Large enough for a gathering! read more

I've been wanting to stop here because I keep hearing how great it is, and it is!!! The atmosphere is very roomy and authentic Mexican. The staff is friendly and attentive, but let's talk about the food & drinks! First, you get the traditional chips and salsa.. fresh and warm, and the salsa is served in cute little carafe. I had the chicken fajitas and they were the best I've ever eaten. Not soaked in oil and the seasoning was delicious. Loved their refried beans and guacamole sides, too. I can't forget the drinks because their margaritas are perfect and the prices are so reasonable, I might have had two! This place is only about 5 miles from Rapid City and is a beautiful drive! Eat here... we will be back! read more

Stopped by on the way out to Pactola lake on a Friday for lunch. Customer service was really good. They brought out chips and salsa quickly to the table. Salsa has a good taste, not to spicy. We started with the white cheese dip! I got the chipotle burrito and my husband got the Fajitas Campenchanas. Chipotle Burrito: overall, the taste was good but, the creamy chipotle sauce on top was a little too much for me. Overwhelming you could say. The Fajitas Campenchanas was chicken, chorizo, and bacon. My husband absolutely loved it! The flavor was amazing and the portions were huge! We will split it next time. read more

Mexico Tipico - Two people servings - - Mexican Near Me - Rapid City, South Dakota

Great Mexican restaurant in an out-of-the-way place near the Black Hills. We came in late on a Sunday night, driving through on a road trip. Going up in the hills, in the dark, in winter, with fog coming in and getting to some remote country...I didn't know what to expect. But there it was...lit up, open for business, with a full parking lot if customers. Food was good-to-great. (This coming from a So. California guy that is spoiled with lot of good Mexican food around home.) read more

Best overall real Mexican restaurant in the Black Hills. Very friendly staff and flavorful food that is both plentiful and affordable!

After all the great reviews I was expecting much more. Food was average at best. My chimichanga seemed to be in a pastry shell instead of a tortilla. Not a deal-breaker but not what I prefer. My wife had shrimp fajitas. The shrimp were great by frozen, South Dakota standards. Accompanying veggies were cooked to death. They were more stewed than sautéed. And the 3 little tortilla shells wrapped in foil didn't stand a chance. They had been there long enough to melt into one. Chips were fresh but salsa bland. On the plus side, service was prompt and friendly. Exceptional! Beer was cold and margarita tasty...more positives. Not a lot of rowdy kids for this time of year. We will try again after tourist season. It's a nice drive getting a little out of Rapid. read more

The food was great! I had a chicken chimichanga, tamale and a tostado. My husband had one of their specialities which was half of a pineapple filled with shrimp, chicken, beef and some vegetables which was served with rice and beans and cheese sauce. Chips and salsa was also good. The 12 oz margaritas were 10 oz maximum! Service was horrible. We stood by the register for at least 10 minutes before being greeted. It took another 20 minutes to order and 30 minutes to get our food. We ran out of chips and drinks and I had to go ask our waitress who was hanging out at the cash register to get us more. If you eat here make sure you have all night and get the 20 oz margarita which might be 12? read more

Great food. For authentic Mexican style cuisine you can't go wrong this far north of the frontera. Great atmosphere and if you have a large party they have the tables and service to accommodate. Spend a day in the Hills and hit this place on the way home. read more

I understand different Family recipes Grew Up in New Mexico, I got It But had a Combo plate Relleno , Enchilada plate. First the basic meaning of Relleno is to stuff/ fill , This is just a battered Chili nothing inside no cheese. Most good Relleno's have either a homemade Red or Green sauce this was a Cheese sauce that was a mix of old can and stinking sock taste , not inviting at all. Scrapped it off The Enchilada was okay ground beef filled again zero cheese inside (okay) But again covered in the same weird taste cheese sauce Beans were plain and rice decent as removing sauce and mixing in beans made it tolerable. In all Not one ounce of real cheese anywhere on the plate other than the white cheese sauce. I realize most in Rapid City claim Taco Johns as Mexican, But not anywhere close to what it could be read more

The food: beautifully fresh, generous portions, delicious with just a tiny bit spicy, but it just right. The service: was attentive and fast, we had a little trouble with communications, but that didn't take anything away from the experience. The ambiance was bright, fresh and very festive. read more

Yuck! Food was not good. And I got the strangest tasting Pina colada with a salted rim????? I asked for a beef chimichanga and got a chicken one. By the time our waitress arrived she was hoping I was going to be ok with that. Nope. I asked for the right one and I could tell she was annoyed as they were busy. She did correct the mistake, but very mediocre food. I told my husband we should go after receiving my odd drink. We were so hungry. I should have stuck to my gut. I was confused why this place was so busy? read more

Service was poor. Our waitress took our orders, but a man brought out food. He tried to pass out meals, but they were not what we ordered. He insisted that they were our orders, but then decided he had brought food to the wrong table. He took our plates to another table and brought out our actual order one plate at a time, making the meal quite disjointed and uncomfortable. The food was nearly inedible. We did not complain about the food because we felt at this point there was no redeeming the meal. We will not be repeating this experience! read more

I used to stop here all of the time. Their new location is so far, but so worth it. The staff was always friendly, and one server even recognized me at Walmart! Lol. I brought everybody I knew here because legitimate Mexican food is hard to come across in Rapid, let alone South Dakota lol. Great food, tons of options, fantastic service! read more

Real great food. We have been there twice and both times the food was excellent. The service is great

Waited a while before trying this place as there has been a couple failed businesses in this location. Fantastic food, great service, and a competitive price. This will be our new go-to place for Mexican food. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. read more

Casa de Covid anyone? No social distancing at all, did not even try. They had a big room totally empty but crammed everyone into a smaller room. Even after we commented on it and the waitress said they would keep the two closest tables empty it did not happen, they still put people at the very next tables. Saw one couple come in, sit down, decided to move. The table was not wiped down after them and another couple sat down shortly after. No masks on staff, no gloves either. It is like they never heard of covid except they did make a point that they were charging more due to it. Pictures 1 and 3 are the small room, Pictures 2 and 4 are the big empty room. Food is good, do take out. read more

The best Mexican restaurant in town! The tamales are *inserts chefs kiss* banging. The menu is very organized and has lots of options and will have something for anybody. Love that they add pineapple to some of their dishes. Worth the drive. Decor and paintings are very cute. The owner is very sweet and attentive to his customers. Will be coming back! read more

Let me start by saying, my boyfriend and I are from Texas. We were skeptical trying a Mexican restaurant in South Dakota but, hey, it was 3 blocks from where we were staying, so why not? We were NOT disappointed. Granted, they call their queso "cheese dip" but I'll still eat it all day long. The salsa was fresh and delicious and don't even get me started on the Margarona! Highly recommend the fajitas. Service was on point. If I'm ever here again, I will be visiting this place. In fact, we're going back tonight. read more

The service was awesome, and the food was very good. It was a little difficult to find, as Google maps is incorrect. There is no exit ramp, so you have to loop around. But the small extra effort to get to the restaurant was definitely worth it. Highly recommended. read more

Best Mexican in the Black Hills. It's a little out of the way but worth the drive. Family owned, friendly, good service and excellent food. Great service, great food.....love this place! It never disappoints. Well worth the drive out of Rapid City.

I have moved to rapid city from New Mexico. This place is the real deal by far the best Mexican in the hills. Not a fancy place but truly delicious home cooked Mexican. Fajitas the best I've ever had! My wife loves and have ordered 20 time the La Prima chicken meal outstanding! Don't miss this place on your drive in the hills. read more

Not sure if they lost their chef, but the Beef and Bean Nachos I ordered were just that, no tomatoes and lettuce but did have plenty of queso cheese - overall pretty bland. No draft beer so ordered a bottle of Blue Moon, usually I get a slice of orange with it, but not here. If you are around Rapid City, no worth the trip. Staff was friendly. read more

The food is excellent and the wait staff is beyond friendly and helpful. The guy complaining about Covid in the bad review states the food is good. Cant please everyone, but thats also a jerk move to give them one star because you are an overly sensitive individual. I got the burrito, and it was delicious. As well as the bean and cheese dip! Ill be back! read more
