Fajitas Campenchanas (chicken, chorizo, and bacon)
    Sydney C.

Stopped by on the way out to Pactola lake on a Friday for lunch. Customer service was really good. They brought out chips and salsa quickly to the table. Salsa has a good taste, not to spicy. We started with the white cheese dip! I got the chipotle burrito and my husband got the Fajitas Campenchanas. Chipotle Burrito: overall, the taste was good but, the creamy chipotle sauce on top was a little too much for me. Overwhelming you could say. The Fajitas Campenchanas was chicken, chorizo, and bacon. My husband absolutely loved it! The flavor was amazing and the portions were huge! We will split it next time.

OMG!! OMG!!! Now we are talking!! This is the real deal, authentic Mexican food!!! The very Best Mexican Food Restaurant of the Black Hills!!! Yeah!! The food is absolutely delicious!! The portions are generous!! The service is amazing!! To top it off, if you don't live in the area, just going to this restaurant is an amazing experience. Getting out of the city and going through the hills is just priceless!! For all the reasons above, give yourself a treat, you deserve it!! ** The picture is two people servings**

Margaritas are yummy! I asked for a spicy mango margarita and it was delicious!

Servings are plentiful- I had the fajitas parrillada- comes with beef, pork, chicken and shrimp- also a shareable plate. Delicious and kitchen is able to turn over orders quickly.

Chicken Fajitas and Margarita on the rocks!

Great Mexican food. A different twist than what we're used to in California, but a good different! Fresh and delicious.

Granted, they call their queso "cheese dip" but I'll still eat it all day long.

Okay this was hands down one of the oddest Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. Let me start off…read moreby saying we'd had a LONG day. It all started off in Wall, SD where we woke up, and ventured into Badlands National Park. We had spend tons of time there, then had lunch, and followed it all up with the Crazy Horse Memorial near Rapid City. After that, it was approaching dinnertime and after checking into our hotel I hopped onto Yelp, and Doordash to see what options we had in the area. Mexican restaurants are always a good bet for us when travelling because usually once it gets to be the evening we are so sick of fast food, but our daughter still really wants yet another hamburger and most Mexican places have a solid kids menu. After looking over door dash options and reading reviews on Yelp, we ultimately decided to go to this place in person, rather than ordering for delivery, because we thought we might as well get out and see a bit of town. We chose Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant based on two things: 1. They had really great reviews on Doordash, and 2. Despite the mediocre reviews on Yelp, it was one of the only places within a reasonable distance from our hotel that we knew from the Doordash menu offered a kids hamburger. We pull up, and it looks like your standard Mexican restaurant from both the outside and in the inside. When we walked in, I was a little surprised because it was fairly empty, despite there being a good amount of cars in the lot. It is a big restaurant so it could have just been an off day. Anyways, the host sat us in the bar area at this massive table for like 8 people, despite there being three of us. It wasn't a big deal, but it was pretty funny, and the three of us had a good laugh about it. Once we got our menus we realized there was no kids menu so we asked and they said they can make a kids meal but it's not on the real menu, which was a bit annoying since it was advertised online, but we went with it and ordered the kids hamburger despite never seeing what the price would be - also a bit odd, but again could be worse. At this point our chips and salsa came out. Now, our daughter LOVES chips and salsa so she was pumped, but the salsa was HOT and I don't say that lightly. I love hot sauce, my husband and I both typically oder things spicy, and we both agreed with her that it was way too hot for a table salsa. We asked the waiter if there was a more mild salsa we could get for our four year old, and he said that the person who makes the salsa never made any that day. Okay, odd, but then he came back later and said that we could go to the salsa bar on the restaurant side of the restaurant to get some alternative salsas, so we did and found one that was a bit more palatable for our kiddo, though honestly still a bit hot for her. A few minutes after that, another person comes by with a chips refill and asks if we need more salsa, we say no as we've just gotten some from the bar and she gave us the most wild look, that made us feel like we'd done something wrong? All in all the whole salsa situation was strange, but again we forged onward. We ordered our food and it came out hot. Our daughter enjoyed her burger enough, my husband said his food was okay, and my enchiladas were honestly the most dry enchiladas I've ever had. They were OK, didn't taste terrible, but had very little flavor, and barely any sauce. Add in the fly colony that was attacking us throughout dinner and it was a very lackluster experience. The saving grace was our server, who was actually super friendly and kind the whole time. Would I return? No - not for us, but I did leave thinking that it made more sense to me why they have better reviews on Doordash than they do on Yelp. I think if you just ordered delivery from here, while you'd still get the too hot table salsa, you'd end up with decent chips and decent food, without all the strangeness of the dine-in experience. So the too long didn't read of this one is simply order out from here, don't dine in, unless some changes are made.
