    Enchiladas

Staff was not attentive at all. Long wait to get drinks, longer to order, average meal time and very long wait for bill to leave. They weren't busy and have only 8-10 tables so I guess they just don't care. Food was average at best, very large and hot chimichanga but all beans and very little beef. Enchiladas (3) had to "all be the same" so I tried beef and felt like something you'd get from Taco Bell, but plainer and drier. The highlight of our meal was the rice...super light, fluffy melt in your mouth good. Cold beer and truly hot wine not even room temp, Fair prices but can't recommend.

    Dry enchiladas and pathetic fajitas

We should have taken the hint and gone elsewhere when they didn't have salsa. Pass on the pico, very dry as where our entrees. The enchiladas had no sauce. I ate it anyway because I had to pay for it... just don't. We are used to bad Mexican food where we leave and this was just sad.

I don't remember what I ordered, but it was good nonetheless.

Food: Since we are from southern California, we were really home sick not having any Mexican food nearby. This place made us feel at home. They don't have kids burritos on the menu, but the chef made them for our kids. My wife said her chili relleno was good, but she was disappointed there was only 1, since usually when we get the plate it comes with 2. I don't remember what I ordered, but I put a picture here. It was pretty good, it had chicken and cheese... not sure what else but it was good. Rice and beans were flavorful. Service: The waiter was attentive, didn't pressure us at all. He was also nice to pick up a spill that my daughter made. We have him a good tip because we may have been a bit much as far as patrons go. Sorry dude! Price: We were looking for a taco shop, but this was the closest I think we were able to find. The place wasn't as cheap as a taco shop, but for a sit down place, it wasn't bad. 10-12$ a plate, 40-ish for a family dinner. Atmosphere: It is a little cramped inside, but it is a small place. Also, it doesn't help that there is construction out in front. It's a little dark inside as well, no individual table lighting. Overall: A great place, we will be back whenever we are back in South Dakota. It's missing something, not sure exactly what. Lots of places out in CA put a grilled green onion with the plates. ??? I dunno. It's a good place, as close to a taco shop as you can get in South Dakota.

What a fabulous find! I called for takeout. The fish tacos were fantastic. The carne asada was excellent. Each meal came with beans and rice. Courteous service and delicious food.

    Chips and salsa

BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN TOWN. The only one worth going to if you are looking for good, authentic Mexican food (we've been searching since moving from California). Staff is SUPER friendly, the young women who works in the front is the best. I was waiting for my takeout food and she came out with a basket of yummy chips and amazing salsa. Try it out, You won't regret it!

I don't know why I haven't gotten around to checking this place out sooner. I went in with my family for dinner and I have to say- this place is TINY. Not a bad thing, but it's seriously a shack. I was pleasantly surprised by the service. Our server was very attentive. The chips and salsa were well-stocked. I really appreciated that the chips weren't salty (I'm a tortilla chip connoisseur at this point). I ordered the chicken tamales and they weren't bad. I don't think I'd get it again, but it was good enough that I'd be curious to try some other dishes (carne asada or enchiladas came to mind). The star of the show was dessert--the sopapillas. Those were some the best I've ever had. Overall I have to say I will be back. If anyone in the area is looking for solid Mexican food this place is worth your time.

Good local mexican food joint. Stopped in for dinner when staying in the city for the night. It's a pretty small place, with only about 10 tables, but the food was good. Not a 'hole in the wall', but not a fine establishment either. But, the food was good and service was what to be expected. I had the fajitas, which were what you would expect. Overall a good restaurant but if you are looking for something more 'classy' then this probably isn't the place for you.

Nice, sweet cozy space. Authentic, unexpected touches add a wonderful flavor to the restaurant.

Sabor is a great quaint place to enjoy authentic Mexican food. It's the best Mexican restaurant I've been to, and I've been to restaurants in Southern California. I highly recommend this place for people who are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant experience. The smallness almost gives it a home like feeling. Instead of giving you a feeling of a restaurant it gives you the feeling that you're in a friend's home and they're just sharing their culture and food with you. I highly recommend!!

A delicious burrito with red sauce!

By far the best Mexican I've had in a while. Driving across the States (WA to IL) and on our way we decided to stop at Mount Rushmore. We're about an hour away and were hungry for lunch and I cannot be more thankful we stopped!! Huge portion, but great flavor!! I got a burrito and didn't want it with meat, so they added bell peppers and onions instead! (Not an option on the menu). Service was fab, great stop! Well worth it.

    Cheese and jalepeno tamales. Mmmmmmmm

Best real Mexican food near downtown Rapid as well as friendly staff. Price also still not out of control like many other restaurants!

Best Al pastor I've ever had. I grew up in SoCal, I know how to make it, also had it in AZ. If you want real Mexican food in SD, go here.

Okay this was hands down one of the oddest Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. Let me start off…read moreby saying we'd had a LONG day. It all started off in Wall, SD where we woke up, and ventured into Badlands National Park. We had spend tons of time there, then had lunch, and followed it all up with the Crazy Horse Memorial near Rapid City. After that, it was approaching dinnertime and after checking into our hotel I hopped onto Yelp, and Doordash to see what options we had in the area. Mexican restaurants are always a good bet for us when travelling because usually once it gets to be the evening we are so sick of fast food, but our daughter still really wants yet another hamburger and most Mexican places have a solid kids menu. After looking over door dash options and reading reviews on Yelp, we ultimately decided to go to this place in person, rather than ordering for delivery, because we thought we might as well get out and see a bit of town. We chose Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant based on two things: 1. They had really great reviews on Doordash, and 2. Despite the mediocre reviews on Yelp, it was one of the only places within a reasonable distance from our hotel that we knew from the Doordash menu offered a kids hamburger. We pull up, and it looks like your standard Mexican restaurant from both the outside and in the inside. When we walked in, I was a little surprised because it was fairly empty, despite there being a good amount of cars in the lot. It is a big restaurant so it could have just been an off day. Anyways, the host sat us in the bar area at this massive table for like 8 people, despite there being three of us. It wasn't a big deal, but it was pretty funny, and the three of us had a good laugh about it. Once we got our menus we realized there was no kids menu so we asked and they said they can make a kids meal but it's not on the real menu, which was a bit annoying since it was advertised online, but we went with it and ordered the kids hamburger despite never seeing what the price would be - also a bit odd, but again could be worse. At this point our chips and salsa came out. Now, our daughter LOVES chips and salsa so she was pumped, but the salsa was HOT and I don't say that lightly. I love hot sauce, my husband and I both typically oder things spicy, and we both agreed with her that it was way too hot for a table salsa. We asked the waiter if there was a more mild salsa we could get for our four year old, and he said that the person who makes the salsa never made any that day. Okay, odd, but then he came back later and said that we could go to the salsa bar on the restaurant side of the restaurant to get some alternative salsas, so we did and found one that was a bit more palatable for our kiddo, though honestly still a bit hot for her. A few minutes after that, another person comes by with a chips refill and asks if we need more salsa, we say no as we've just gotten some from the bar and she gave us the most wild look, that made us feel like we'd done something wrong? All in all the whole salsa situation was strange, but again we forged onward. We ordered our food and it came out hot. Our daughter enjoyed her burger enough, my husband said his food was okay, and my enchiladas were honestly the most dry enchiladas I've ever had. They were OK, didn't taste terrible, but had very little flavor, and barely any sauce. Add in the fly colony that was attacking us throughout dinner and it was a very lackluster experience. The saving grace was our server, who was actually super friendly and kind the whole time. Would I return? No - not for us, but I did leave thinking that it made more sense to me why they have better reviews on Doordash than they do on Yelp. I think if you just ordered delivery from here, while you'd still get the too hot table salsa, you'd end up with decent chips and decent food, without all the strangeness of the dine-in experience. So the too long didn't read of this one is simply order out from here, don't dine in, unless some changes are made.
