Food is decent. The steak in my steak burrito was kind of dry but it was all right. My husband likes the potato ole's. They taste best plain rather than super loaded. They get soggy when they have all the stuff put on top of them. The kids thought their quesadillas were okay. This is the closest Taco John's to our home and the farthest we have ever lived from one! We live 2 1/2 hours away, but stop to eat every chance we can. This time you exceeded all expectations! We came a little bit before noon. The drive through was busy and there were several people eating inside. The girl that took our order was new but professional and sweet. Not really impressed. I would not consider this an alternative to Taco Bell. Mainly just because the "boss bowl" I got was minuscule. I understand that food costs are going up and there is inflation. But the bowl I ordered was absolutely tiny. I would have needed three of them to get full. And it was about $10 for one. There may be other things on the menu that are more cost effective but this particular experience left a negative impression. I wouldn't come here again if you paid me. Placed our order through the app for curbside pickup at 320 in the parking lot and said it should be ready at 339 and to check in. Nowhere on the app did it allow us to check in. We tried calling a dozen times and finally at 350 got ahold of the store. I gotta say... I don't really get the appeal of this place. My friend Stephen recommended it but had not yet been, so we went for dinner. There is a late 90's Taco Bell vibe to the restaurant interior. There is actually a salsa bar akin to authentic Mexican restaurants I've been to. The odd thing is, instead of chips you get tater tots instead. I tried dipping them in the salsa and was left feeling dumb for even trying. Not a good combo. Salt and grease plus acidic, thin salsa does not work for me. All I am going to say is that the meat on the tacos tasted strangely sweet and had a sloppy joe, cafeteria-like consistency. Not hating on the place, it had plenty of customers that looked like they wanted to be there. Please feel free to share with me your favorite item on the menu because maybe I got the wrong thing? I gave a 5 star for the value & Friendliness today. My children & I aren't big breakfast eaters so we done something not very ordinary for breakfast. We done a mobile order for the first time. My son & myself ordered the Breakfast Potato Oles Scrambler & LOVED that they had options online to add extras. And they were reasonable on the charges. You can xtra Bacon and xtra potatoes for 50 cents each, xtra tomatoes or onions for 10 cents each, also xtra Nacho cheese or add shredded for 25 cents each. I love veggies so that was a great option for me. We got the large scrambler & I ate less than half & was full. My son had about a quarter left!! So definitely good portion & it was yummy with crispy, seasoned potato oles, bacon, scrambled eggs, Poblano peppers, Xtra onions, xtra tomatoes & xtra nacho cheese.. Definitely gonna be a favorite for breakfast!! The girl at the drive thru was very pleasant. Food was quick & average price for food these days!! Taco John's - Potato Oles Scrambler with Bacon & Some Extras - Mexican Near Me - Elizabethton, Tennessee

I spent my week of vacation in northeastern Tennessee and had my first ever encounter with Taco John's. In general I avoid chains and fast food on vacations because I'd much rather discover the charming local run places than fill my gullet with mass produced garbage. But alas, one day I found myself on the run and looking for a quick bite. My hostess for the week had mentioned earlier that Taco John's was a good bet for quick Tex-Mex so I figured I'd give it a shot. I ordered a Buffalo Chicken Snackarito which was REALLY tasty and perfect for a light lunch on the run. Just enough burn for the average Joe. For the family I ordered a "Six Pack and a Pound" which is six tacos (hard or soft) and a pound of "Potato Oles". The tacos were moderately good, but the Potato Oles were slammin! They're just tiny hash browns, but the oil they fry them in to golden perfection and the seasonings they sprinkle on top make them VERY addictive. Nom nom. Went through the drive through... service was quick and efficient. Decent fast food experience. It's definitely better than Taco Bell. For a clean, well run Taco Bell, I'd give 3 stars, Taco John's would get 3 1/2 for being a smidge better. I won't go higher than 3 1/2 stars for fast food unless something miraculous happens (like the 2nd coming of Christ.) read more

Just waited in line 15 minutes behind a car that ran over the curb 2 times and had to back out to pull around which took a couple of minutes and pulled to the order box at 10:02 for them to tell me they were closed, I drove all the way from piney flats to Elizabethton just to go back and go to Taco Bell drive thru in piney flats which is open. The rating system doesn't go low enough. Huge disappointment! Heard many people suggest this place as a must do if you are in the area. I think it must have been a joke now, at my expense. Why did I pay more for the crappy version of Taco Bell! Who would suggest this place unless you had literally no other option. Order 2/$5 chicken taco quesadilla, 1 ole potato, 1 chicken grilled burrito and 1 grilled taco combo with a Sierra Mist. The drink was just the carbonation and no flavor so it was completely not drinkable. The quesadillas were soggy disasters that basically glued itself to the wrapper. It was like they had been sitting around for a while under a heat lamp with the lettuce pico and three small chunks of chicken. The wrappers were covered in and outside with possibly cilantro that was "baked on"crusty yuck. I could barely scratch it off. I ate maybe half on the quesotaco and just couldn't stomach it. I thought it was just part of the wrapper until I opened to check the other one. The oles, I mean, is a hash brown. Let's not play like OMG amazing and why are they sold by the pound. Burrito and grilled taco were deemed meh at best by hubby who has eaten many gas station burritos and said these were actually worse. Wanting something quick, but different, I pulled into this place for a few tacos. When I got inside, I found that they had taco salads in taco shells. I couldn't resist. I gave up the taco idea in favor of the salad, and boy, am I glad I did. The service was awful. The kitchen staff seem to have absolutely no interest in getting your order right. My receipt was incorrect in comparison to what I ordered, which made it even harder to get the order corrected. There's a reason this Wyoming-based Midwestern chain has stuck in Elizabethton despite being their only store within 200 miles (yes, I have looked). It's hard to put into words exactly what is so much better about TJs than "the Bell" or other fast food Mexican joins, but it just...is. Fresher ingredients, more generous helpings of meat, and oh my the Potato Oles. I especially note the chicken, which is sliced rather than shredded and seemingly of a much higher grade than you see even at sit-down Mexican places. Love the street tacos . I haven't tried anything else yet as I have only recently moved to the area. I now crave those little tacos.

The dining area was empty and we still had to wait a while for our food in the drive-thru . The chicken tacos were filled with mostly lettuce and very little meat . The burrito was full of lettuce and refried beans with almost no meat and very little potatoe oles . The refried beans were almost dried completely out and tasted like they had been sitting out all day . I would not even give it one star, but I was required to.
