Advertised as open until 10 PM. Placed an order at 8 PM, came to pick it up, but they were closed. Now I've been charged for food I never got. Taco John's HAS to do better than this. This isn't the first time I've "successfully" placed an order via their app, got charged, but never got any food. This is starting to make me angry. They HAVE to fix the app so that you cannot place an order if a location is closed. Come on. Two stars because I've had one good experience here in the past. Veryslow service, never get what is ordered. Cashier doesn't change gloves between making food taking money and going back to kitchen. If you dine in they do ALL of the drive through orders before doing the dine in orders. I worked fast food for many years and this place takes the cake. Relatively clean inside but lots of broken equipment and cupboards. read more

I really want to express how upset I was with the service. You'd think that I was bothering them. The female who took my order was completely rude. We get up to the window and we are given the order. I pulled over and there were items missing from my order. They brought out the order but there were missing condiments. But by this time we are on the road. The food was disgusting, I'm not sure how this passes as food. It was so disgusting that it is simply a crime to feed that to someone. This was a road trip so I would never set foot in that place or any Taco Johns. If that's what passes for Mex- fill in the blank then it is truly a travesty. Great Tacos!!! Yummy. Really a good taste to them and the shells are really fresh and soft. Lettuce is crisp and fresh also. They have house sauce and hot sauce as well. read more

I highly recommend this place if you're trying to lose weight. The food was so disgusting that l lost my appetite long before I could finish it! We ordered "bowl boxes" which were like some weird alternate universe imitation Chipotle rice bowls. So gross!!!! Only reason this is not a 1 star review is that at least they had a COVID friendly drive thru and a nice view of the Missouri River. read more

Absolutely horrible took 15 minutes just to get out food then when we got to our car we noticed they never gave my 2 freinds their meals and it was just a mess we wanted a quick bite that turned into a 45 minute rest stop. My wife and I were traveling back home and planned to stop and grab a bite at the Taco Johns in Chamberlain. We got there and there was 2 families running around with kids I had to watch my step while getting a drink. We then order our food and had to talk loudly to get over the children screaming. We then ordered 2 fried chicken burrito meals, sat down, saw the other customers leave, and saw the cashier go clean and stare at us while we wait for our food. It was then another 10 minutes before they even began cooking the food. I saw 5 workers all standing around doing what they call work. We asked for a refund since it was taking so long and they couldn't even do that either. We waited another 10 minutes after complaining to get the two burritos. Never again. read more

I know Taco reviews shouldn't start this way but as a New Yorker, I Was surprised at how good it was for a random fast food taco place. Street tacos with steak were tasty (much better than Taco Bell's). Potato Oles aka tater tots were tasty. I was starving when I rambled into this place. And hunger, as they say, is sometimes the best spice. But let's face it, being Hungry didn't make Taco John's any better. Let's put it this way: If I'm ever hungry enough to want to go to Taco John's again, please get me to a hospital! Truth be told, the food was only a relatively small part of the problem. Much more bothersome was the service (if one could call it that), which ranged from ignorant and indifferent to downright awful. As often is the case, I think the details would actually mask just how inadequate the service was. Let it just be said that it was uninformative, unhelpful, unfriendly and not even worth waiting for. Two stars (instead of one) because the outside really does offer a nice view of lake, especially at sunset. But bring your mosquito repellent. Otherwise, the bugs might enjoy eating you even more than you'll enjoy eating Taco John's. read more

Well...this was my first time at a Taco Johns...my only question is WHY DON'T WE HAVE THESE IN ST. LOUIS! This is a wonderful new spin on fast food Mexican. It's not your typical Taco Bell or taco truck. They have some neat offerings, albeit very unhealthy, which are simply a taste delight. I had the fresh "authentic" Mexican tacos and some kind of cheesy burrito with tortilla chips inside. Both were amazing, and I am upset I am almost 200 miles away from another location. This will be a road trip spot for sure, along with Whattaburger, In-N-Out and Taco Tico! Long live the road trip!!! read more

Highly disappointed. We got there and it's drive thru only. I get it, short staff. But wow. We ordered our food and headEd back to the hotel. We open our food and the cheese sauce is dumped all over our food. The quesadilla we got was basically balled up in the box. I've had taco John's before and never had an issue. Lowbrow Yelping is my favorite, so this off the beaten path T John's location was a perfect place to visit. I have a love of the Bell, but TJ is the upscale version of the taco fast food place. This location was fast, accurate, and the Potato Oles had extra seasoning on them. Bless you, Taco Johns! By the way, if you've never had Oles, you need to have them before you die. They never fail to get my order wrong. I order a chicken taco salad without a shell, and it blows their minds or something. I usually end up with a beef taco salad without a shell. If I order a grilled chicken burrito with extra hot sauce and sour cream, I get a grilled chicken burrito with no sour cream and super hot. It's wrong almost every time. If the owner is there, there is hardly any meat on anything. You'd expect a decent amount for the high price of the food. They are, however, very fast with service, and usually very friendly. read more

My husband loves taco johns and since we don't have one where we live, we have stopped at least once a day at one. This one was the best yet, the food was hot and fresh, very nice! Gave it 4 stars because it took a while to get our food, which was obviously cause it was all hot & fresh, the kids drinks were in clear plastic cups, which are really no big deal. If you're traveling along 90 & want some fast Tex-mex good, this is the place. If you've never tried their nacho cheese before, you definitely should! read more

We stopped here on our way through and it is probably the dirtiest Taco Johns I have ever been in. I wanted to walk out the minute We walked in. We ordered two sodas and the carbonation had run out in the soda machine. The clerk at the register was offering the people before us and after us to fill it behind the counter but never offered it to us. Just really bad service. We don't have many of these in Idaho and so stopping on our trip to the Midwest is a treat but I will never stop here again. read more

Super slow wait at the drive-thru, along with the rude drive up gal. Also asked for water instead of soda and got charged over five dollars for 3 bottled water. After we decided we would have NO drinks since that was super pricey FOR WATER, the management claimed she couldn't refund it(they were un-opened mind you) to our Discover card or even give the cash back. The food here was pretty darn good for fast food Mexican style, and I enjoyed it. The price wasn't bad either. I liked the combination burrito and potato ole's and it was a nice touch that they had a variety of pico de gallo and salsa on ice for the taking, rather than having to order it and/or pay extra. However - the service was pretty rough around the edges. I'd never been to a Taco John's before and the young woman at the counter acted like my 1-2 simple questions were very annoying. I'm sure it is taxing to answer newbies' queries, but that's kind of your job as the counter staff/cashier. I explain things to people day in and day out at my job, too, but I don't get snotty to them because I'm at work. Not to mention, there were NO other diners in line so it wasn't like I was really taking up a lot of time with my questions. I'm pretty sure it wasn't just me, either, because when we first stepped into the restaurant there was a small family asking her a question about combo meals and I didn't hear the whole thing but basically she was telling them how much money they would have saved IF they had ordered combos, which they didn't. Bad service. I only took off one star for that though, because it is likely just 1 staff member in need of additional training and/or attitude adjustment.
