I know this is a chain but the food is so much better than you get with chain restaurants. The menu is varied. There's something for everyone. The Big Freakin Nachos are my go to and will fill up the biggest appetite. If you really want to go all out get the Whollotta Platter. I'm 285 and sometimes it's a challenge to get through. The queso is different from what you get in a traditional Mexican restaurant but it's pretty good. I've had better salsa. Theirs is mostly puree. I like chunky fresh salsa. If you're on the go and want something different, this is a good stop and one reason why I never go to Taco Bell anymore. Prices are very competitive and portions are decently sized. read more

There are just times with cheap, fast Mexican food hits the spot, right? When those times come here in Saline County, you've really got two choices -- Taco Bueno and Taco Bell. Frankly, neither one of them is what one would consider haute cuisine, but Taco Bueno is the better of the two. The ingredients are fresher (even the tomatoes are better), the meat is higher quality (and not nearly as greasy as The Bell) and the overall quality is higher. Now, there is a drawback -- this place is very expensive compared to The Bell and the wonderful Taco Sauce at the bell just isn't here. Yes, you can get a pretty good salsa at Taco Bueno that is more than passable and they do keep bottles of Chalula Hot Sauce in various flavors (go for the lime one, kids -- trust me), but that outstanding mild and hot sauce from Taco Bell is totally missing here. In an ideal world, you'd have Taco Bell sauce and Taco Bueno tacos. Ah, but we don't live in a perfect world, do we? That said, the better quality and fresher ingredients means that Taco Bueno gets the nod between those two restaurants. read more

Taco Bueno is one of the freshest alternatives in the fast food market. Each location I have been to (several) have been consistent in service, quality and value. The food is fantastic. And the tomatoes aren't these flavorless hyponic things like the tomatoe-esque ingredient used at Taco Bell -- and at other fast food restaurants. Flavorful, fulfilling and absolutely fantastic!!! I'm not sure what happened, but the quality of both the service and the food has fallen drastically in recent months. Ate there today, and it was a complete disaster. The salsa bar was both filthy and nearly empty; the men's room door would not close; the tortilla chips was a bag of cold broken crumbs; the queso "bowl" was only 1/3 full; it took over 20 minutes to get our food, which was a cold, sloppy mess. I've had better food and service in the worst of Taco Bells, and will not be coming back to this store. I just HAD to try out this place because, well, there's not a lot of competition in the Mexican fast food world. I'll go ahead and admit I love getting some Taco Bell once in a while. That said, based on my experience at this Taco Bueno, I would choose it over Taco Bell just about any day. The bean and beef burrito was great, the chicken taco was fabulous, and my wife loved her brisket taco. The ingredients were surprisingly fresh, even including the nice touches of cilantro and lime with the tacos. Good food, prices and location. Window staff not great. Always check my order because most times something (usually cheese dip) is left out. My complaint is that when picking up order at drive thru the employees are always taking another order while looking straight at you. Will repeat other order (i.e. "2 tacos") so I've had to learn to ignore them. Today as the lady was hanging her arm out the window with my drink and looking in a different direction while taking another order, as I would almost reach my drink she'd move her arm back where I couldn't reach it. Then she'd look at me as thou I was crazy. I finally had to tell her I can not reach the drink! They always appear unhappy and stressed.
