They had religious Catholic images on the walls, cultural murals and paintings, and a whole Mexican snack station with candies and chips! The cashier was SO FRIENDLY!! I actually came two nights in a row (I was staying at a hotel 2 min away on a work trip so why not return? It was delicious and affordable!) and she remembered me the second night! She asked what I wanted and I had not a clue- she offered to help me decide! "Tell me what you're in the mood for and I can help!" Love workers like this!!! They know their menu better than us so I always let them tell me what to get! I got one of their combos: 2 traditional tacos with onion and cilantro, with rice and beans for $10! The next night, I got the same combo, add a birria ramen and the MEAT!!!! The meat it came with was SO SO SO GOOD and tender! It all fell apart once my fork hit it, it was cooked to perfection! Wish I got a picture of it. The birria ramen was a cup of noodles with some birria meat added, and it was $3.99 for the small! If you like affordable, authentic Mexican food, make sure you stop here!!! They have the friendliest service and best tasting food.

Will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area!!! Sorry didn't get any pics cuz I was starving!!!

Upon entering the restaurant, I was a bit disappointed because it somehow didn't have a warm welcoming ambiance to me. I could see where it could have a cool vibe in warmer weather as there is an outdoor patio and garage doors that can open up the front of the restaurant. As it was December, it was just a basic restaurant without a lot of frills. The outside actually looked more inviting than the inside. I found my party and we had several tables pushed together to accommodate the seven of us. So far, everything is okay as we perused the menu, which offered a variety of selections- including build your own salads and tacos. There were also a number of tacos and bowls. Each entree also provides the number of calories. I ordered a fire southwest chicken bowl which came with rice, black beans, corn, lettuce, white meat chicken, pico de gallo, cheese and a southwest flavored creamy dressing. (See the picture of the bowl below.) I also ordered a side of guacamole which came in a small plastic container that seemed as if it had been setting for a while- didn't seem freshly scooped. The bowl wasn't anything horrible but definitely nothing I'll crave. I couldn't find the chicken at first because it was buried under other layers of ingredients. I didn't eat the rice because it didn't seem to be flavored. The portion was pretty generous. However, it came in a cardboard bowl with plastic silverware- which struck me as odd because it's not a fast food restaurant. We ordered from a server who waited on our table and entrees were brought out to us. Just seemed that washable bowls and silverware would have been more appropriate. Also, don't think about ordering coffee or herbal tea as it's not available. At least water was served in a glass. I think it matters what one orders as to how this restaurant is rated. One person at our table ordered a plate of nachos and the portion was both huge and looked delicious. A couple of people ordered tacos that they found too spicy. One person mentioned it to our server and it was promptly replaced. The person who had been there before ordered two make your own tacos and enjoyed them. I think it's best to order any sauces on the side to determine how spicy and whether or not it's something you like. I had ordered my bowl exactly as it came and was stuck with the seasoned sauce that wasn't too spicy but wasn't really a match for my taste preferences. I think if I ever found myself back at Condado that I would build my own entree and order sauce on the side- and that's my recommendation for anyone else new to this restaurant. I would try it again but wouldn't make a point of running back. I did note that the restaurant passed its health inspection with a score of 100%, which is commendable, so my rating is simply based on my personal experience.

I remember stopping by at one point last year, but the restaurant was not open due to renovations. We arrived by 5:30pm on a Tuesday; not very many people there at all. Not sure when El Patron opened for business, so we figured it must have been somewhat recent. Nicely decorated - nothing too elaborate or upscale, just nicely done. We ordered Chicken Fajitas and a 3 item combo plate (Chicken Chile Relleno, Beef Burrito, and Beef Tamale). Chicken Fajitas was mostly bell peppers and onions, but had a decent flavor. The Tamale had waaaaay too much masa, so it was almost cake-like (not a fan). Salsa was decent as was the Pico de Gallo. Prices weren't too bad considering the portions. Remember me saying one of the reasons we chose El Patron was due to the Foodie Card and the $10 discount after spending $30? Well, by the time we remembered the Foodie Card, our server had already processed the payment. Ugh! All-in-all, a decent Mexican restaurant. Won't be one of my go-to's when we get a craving for some food from South of the border, but we will go back to take advantage of our Foodie Card! Happy eating...
