There are two major facets of the market: a food counter and a small grocery store that specializes in Mexican/Guatemalan goods. There were some fresh items, like produce, vegetables, and cheese, but most of the stock is shelf-stable. LOTS of ingredients. I'm from California, so the vibe reminded me a lot of home, though the Guatemalan items were new and cool. Like, the frozen tamales weren't wrapped by corn husks, but with banana leaves. We were there to order food to go. Tip: it's probably best to order by phone or online, because they do make everything fresh. We had about a 30 minute wait, which was okay, because it gave us a good chance to study the grocery store. The food is well worth the wait, too. We ordered birria tacos and a birria pizza. Like I said, I'm from California, and then my husband is from New Mexico. We have had... mixed experiences in getting authentic, flavorful Mexican food in Minnesota. This stuff? Legit. Generous fillings, lots of flavor. I'm sensitive to hot spices and this was at a perfect level for me--hot to my judgment, but the kind of pleasant hot that washes away when I have some water. The tears I experienced were from sheer nostalgia is getting delicious food that reminds me of home. We will absolutely be getting food from here again!

The vibes in the front and back are SO different... very cute diner in the front & dive bar in the back. We got a bacon cheese burger, Portabella Mushroom Sandwich, and Au Gratin Potatoes. I LOVED the au gratin & am really happy I ordered it on the side. The portabella was a bit soggy and hard to eat - but actually really tasty! And the bacon cheeseburger was a staple, a really jucy burger! We loved their bloody mary and variety of beers too. The menu is HUGE and im really excited to stop back in!

A couple of observations: cleanliness could be improved. The booth we were seated at had many crumbs and other food particles on the seat. Flies are a bit of a pest buzzing around. I know it's not the restaurant's fault esp during the summer but consistently keeping bugs away from my meal is not an ideal indoor dining experience. For those paying via credit card, there is a 3.5% surcharge. The salmon salad was overly fishy and off-putting. Salmon shouldn't taste that way. The deep dish pizza was a nice shareable entree, full of toppings and very tasty.

THE FOOD!!!!! I…read moreordered through Door Dash to my hotel room so I don't have information about the location... and technically I don't have information about the staff. But I can tell you that whoever determined the menu and keeps everyone on track, and probably everyone at the restaurant put a little love into the place and a lot of love into their coworkers. You CAN taste the difference when people are happy. We went with an order of 3 large shrimp for each of us, and a half chicken and ribs with coleslaw and sweet potatoe fries. The shrimp were incredible! The size! The juiciness, the ability to get every bit of meat out of the tail! Everything about these was everything that I wanted. I couldn't believe that one serving of just 3 was so filling! (I think you would need 6 Red Lobster butterfly shrimp to equal the size of one but you cannot compare the taste as these are peel & eat.) Then I opened the protein box and realized that I had made the embarrassing mistake of not ordering a barbecue sauce. Humph. I think that should not have been such an easy mistake to make on their site. Thankfully, both of us like grilled food without dripping sauces and ... OMG ... We were not disappointed in the food! The ribs were like eating a meat candy. They were such a joy to hold the bone and just lightly pull the tender sweet meat off. There was barely any fat. The spice rub brought out the juices from deep inside the meat but only let them sit on the meat and inside the skin. The chicken was amazing! The dark meat practically ran juices down the front of our shirts as we bit into it, the same way that sweet corn does. The white meat was so juicy it was like the typical dark meat that most people achieve on Thanksgiving. Now, the coleslaw was one of the blandest I've tasted but I figured if you do have one of the spicier barbecue sauces you might be using it as a foil. Helping you to calm your mouth's fire down with the dressing. Of course, fries don't travel well and sweet potatoe are no different. But they were absolutely everything I expected. They were delicious!! I am having surgery in April and trying to see how to ship this food to me after that now. ;)

However, in execution I was a bit disappointed. I came with a group of 6, and I ordered the southwest sandwich with brisket. The disappointing thing about seeing the pass with the food in it, is that you can see your food sit. I saw my friends sandwich sitting for a good 10 minutes. It was just a bit slow. The brisket was bland, and was overpowered by the spicy aioli. They also forgot to ring up our to go order which was a bummer. The hotel breakfast across the street had a better smoked meat.

The parking lot is pretty spacious, so no battling for a spot like you might need to in downtown. The bowling alley is in a separate part of the building; we couldn't see hear any sounds from there in the restaurant. We seated ourselves, as a sign advised, and were quickly brought menus. Service remained pretty good throughout our visit. We both had drinks. My husband enjoyed the Bierstube Red, while I had a bottle of Angry Orchard cider. Our cheese curd appetizer was delicious, the curds hot and squeaky with a nice layer of breading. For my main dish, I had the grilled cheese on pumpernickel along with the standard seasoned potato chips. Everything was really good--the sandwich had a great amount of cheese with a good, stringy pull. My husband LOVED the all you can eat fish fry. He declared it to be his favorite out of the local restaurants we've tried. His fries were great, too. After finishing off the main plate, he could request more fish from our server, and she'd bring out a piece at a time on a saucer. I was in an indulgent mood, so we had dessert, too--the apple strudel. It was really good, the strudel piping-hot all the way through, served alongside a big scoop of ice cream. A caramel drizzle added the perfect final touch. We'll definitely be back here, and probably on Fridays!

I'm shocked to see the rating as high as it is at this establishment...The reason we chose this…read morerestaurant over others, is BECAUSE of the rating.... When we walked in it was busy and the hostess was friendly and estimated the wait time to be around 5 minutes, and it was; which was nice. We were seated in the porch area (there is a garage door that separates it from the rest of the restaurant) and it was sticky. The air was like the outdoors (SUPER humid day) but not as warm; there clearly was no AC. They did have a big ass fan on (that's the brand name I believe ) but it was on so low- you could not feel it. We all ordered drinks and only my husband was asked if he wanted a refill (family of 6 here). Our waitress never checked on us to ask how the food was until she asked if we were ready for our bill. My oldest son ordered a pizza with banana peppers, mushrooms, and pepperoni, and instead he got a pizza with green peppers, no mushrooms, and a little bit of pepperoni. My husband ordered a burger which he said was dry and so dry in fact he had to remove part of his bun (he is NOT a picky eater). I ordered a Rachel. My sandwich was incredibly dry and the only reason I almost finished it was because there was no way I was letting a 15.00 sandwich go to waste.... My oldest daughter ordered a cheese quesadilla and it was comparable to something she could have made herself (age 9) and thrown in the microwave. My youngest daughter (age 3) ordered a grilled cheese and it was so bad that she refused to eat it. I tried it and it tasted like wax. Velveeta cheese does not make a good grilled cheese especially when it's cold by the time you get to eat it. It was inedible, we ended up throwing it away. The only person who got decent food was my second son who ordered a 12" pepperoni pizza. He said it was pretty good. I will say this place serves "bar food". We will not be returning. The waitress did take the messed up pizza off of our bill (we appreciated that) but, if she had checked up on us earlier, he could have just had a new one made... I fully understand that it was busy, but it's still not an excuse for poor service and bad food. I have worked in restaurants from low end to high end, so I know how it works. We would have appreciated a check in from our waitress and a smile at least... She could have been having a bad day, but don't take that out on the customer. At least the hostess was friendly. I also want to add that the menu has way too many options... maybe if there were less options, they could perfect some of their recipes in order for the food to taste better... Sometimes too many options is not a good thing.
