If I've learned one thing in life, it's that life is too short not to eat tacos. Good tacos. Good bells. A+

This place is the real deal! The Carna Asada tastes like it was right off a charcoal grill. Yum!…read moreThe birria tacos were unlike any other place. The broth had a wonderful thickness and so much flavor. I almost wanted to drink it straight out of the bowl. The burritos were filled and delicious. They had an elote cart featured tonight. It was out of this world! One of the waite staff was so very kind. The restaurant itself may look a bit dated or worn but trust me the food totally makes up for it. Run don't walk to eat at this place!

DATE & TIME: August 9, 2026 @ 3:00pm…read more WAIT (how busy): No wait, only a few tables of patrons. AMBIANCE: It is located in a small strip mall o. The end, decor matches the authenticity of the cuisine, music was at an appropriate level. CLEANLINESS: CUSTOMER SPACES (lobby, seating): Appeared clean BATHROOMS: Did not use SERVICE AREAS (kitchen, behind counters): Did not see. STAFF: SERVER: Younger male. Very nice, was attentive, pleasant. HOST/HOSTESS: She was very friendly. OTHER (manager, buser, bartender): Did not have any other interactions. SERVICE: Service was good, server was very nice with any questions we had. *** What we didn't appreciate was when it was time to pay the bill, the server brings out the handheld payment tool (like a lot of restaurants use now), server holds the tool so my husband can see and stares at the tool, watching my husband choose what tip amount etc. It automatically defaults to a 20% tip and then increases from there for tip choices!! We felt very pressured and awkward with this. We like to take our time and figure out how much we want to leave based on service not feel "pushed" into choosing one of the pre chosen percentage amounts (especially if they default to a minimum of 20%)!!! The server needs to leave the tool at the table walk away or stand farther back so the customer can privately pay. FOOD &/or BEVERAGE: Birria Taco Dinner TASTE: tacos were very good, flavors of the meat was amazing and that dipping sauce was so good! Beans and rice were basic (nothing different than other places). SIZE: average PRICE: $15.99 Chimichanga TASTE: chicken meat was very flavorful, overall was a very delicious chimichanga. SIZE: average PRICE: $16.99 Basic Burrito TASTE: ground meat was very flavorful, asked for only meat and cheese (normally comes with beans and rice inside) and it had a small amount of beans inside :(. Overall was a delicious basic burrito. Note that this burrito is served dry not wet. SIZE: average PRICE: $9.99 Burrito Chaparrito TASTE: shredded beef was very flavorful, asked for little beans but seemed like the normal amount, also has rice topped with cheese (this is not a wet burrito). Overall was a very good BUT this is the same as the basic burrito except you get cheese on top of this one (which costs you an extra $8.00!!), if my husband would have known that, he would have just done the basic burrito too! SIZE: average PRICE: $17.99 OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paid $80 for our family of four. Food is very good. Staff were very kind. Didn't appreciate the check paying experience (full explanation under service). WOULD I RETURN? Possibly, but we would not make a special trip.

Our chosen Saturday night experience was to gather in Portland. I made an 8-person indoors…read morereservation for 7. When I arrived early just to check in, they said our table was ready whenever we wanted, and they happily started serving us at 6:30. Some people were seated outside, with tent umbrellas to shield the rain, and there was an upstairs room with more of a brewhouse experience. I recommend the latter if you're visiting. The downstairs room felt sparse and too open. Things got a little funky after that. Everything requires ordering through Toast, which worked for most of us but not all. Toast is missing the personal touch of people asking for your order when you are getting table service and not ordering at the counter. The one lady serving us was generous to personally take the order for my one friend who didn't want to put his credit card online. Otherwise, your order is carted over by "teenagers" (the lady's exact quote) from the smokehouse across the street. When you place your order, it comes out as it's prepared. Your table may not all come out at once, especially if it's 7 people like ours. Drink and deal with it, I suppose. But the wait from first dish to last wasn't terribly long. I really enjoyed my sandwich. They did a great job with their smoked chicken - I'm glad I let their smokehouse influence me. It was on an excellent pretzel bun. Great beer. So other than people's rumblings about Toast, we had a good time overall and didn't let the weather rain on our parade.

I grabbed a pint and sat a spell and then took-away a growler of The Bishop (PB&J Porter?). It was really really good! I didn't try the food but I'm absolutely wanting to head back here. What I loved was the overflow room off the entrance. They had 8-12 picnic tables set up for their busy times that were pour-room adjacent. I saw some table games as I walked through to the main bar. So far this is one of my 5 favorite breweries in state offering great beer and a cool space(s) to enjoy said beer.

I chose River House Grill this trip since it was a beautiful night, and on the water. While getting off the interstate and heading in to town, I noticed this eerie presence, nothing was open, signs were dark, stop lights not working... I got to River House and a few regulars were still milling around the bar, I was told they were closed due to a power outage throughout the entire city. After some conversation, they said if I had cash, I could still buy a beer (always carry cash!). The regulars moved on, and I was finishing my drink when the power comes back on! The owner Mike had already sent most of his staff home, as the estimated power restoration was well beyond their normal operating hours, but he said he would turn the fryers back on, and start the pizza oven since I was there. I told him he didn't have to and I would head back to East Lansing, but he insisted, at this point I was the only one in the place! Ordered a pizza, and boy was it delish! By the time my pizza had arrived, a few others had managed to come in and fill up the place! Thanks to Mike, Jen (bartender) and the staff who stayed! I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu, and see the renovations next time I'm in the area! Cheers!
