The reviews were decent so I figured why not give it a try. It's attached to a gas station which gave me pause but I decided to try it anyhow. When we walked in, it immediately smelled like cigarette smoke. In any other instance I would've turned around but I was so hungry and there was actually a lot of foot traffic so I proceeded. The spot itself was crowded with boxes everywhere and it felt super grungy but I knew what I was getting myself into. Ordering and getting my tacos was pretty easy - made to order but came out quick. I settled on some chicken tacos. Once I got home I was slightly disappointed. The chicken really didn't have any seasoning and flavor. Once I added my hot sauces it was good but I just wanted a little more flavor to work with. As crazy as it sounds, I would try the birria if I was ever in the area, it seemed to be literally what everyone else was ordering. Overall wouldn't necessarily recommend but it wasn't terrible.

I came here with two friends and ordered the carne asada with chilaquiles. The carne asada was incredibly juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. A lot of places serve it a little too dry, but this was cooked perfectly and was easily the highlight of the meal. One of my friends comes here pretty often, and my other friend ordered the tacos. The portions were generous, and he said they were really good as well. The waitresses were also very friendly and welcoming. My only complaint was that the cups of water cost around $0.75. I wish they had mentioned that beforehand, although it may have been posted somewhere and I just missed it. Overall, the food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the service was great. I would definitely come back, especially for the carne asada. Highly recommended!

I explained to her not to make the order yet because I did not know if I was gonna be able to make it by then I would just place the order when I came in. I made it by 45 minutes later and I go to place the order and she's like oh yeah we have it right here. I well what do you mean I didn't want it yet cause I didn't know if I was gonna come now it's been sitting there for almost an hour. Which was 45 minutes. So I confirmed that they made the order wrong to begin with. So I said OK well, I would like it made fresh because it's been sitting there and it's not even made right. The lady told me that they would not make it fresh that if I wanted it, I had to buy the one that was already made, and made incorrectly at that. At that point, she kind of tried to argue with me. I just told her I did not want the food at all and I left. Definitely proceed with caution.

Like you could smell good food cooking. I've tried Pollo Asados at a few places and they just didn't have the grilled chicken flavor, and they didn't have onions or jalapeños, all fails. El Arroyo was authentic, the grilled chicken was giving exactly that grilled TODAY. Seasoned, grilled and appropriately charred, onions and jalapeños tender. Oh AND FRESH. The beef tacos were very seasoned and NOT DRY. OH, almost forgot the 2nd best part... their beans and rice is made with vegetable oil not lard, I didn't try the beans cause I didn't want to risk it but I did taste a spoon on rice and it was seasoned and flavorful too. My sister who doesn't eat pork either did have the beans and she hasn't said anything about feeling any kind of way but she did say they were good. 1 star I understand you want to make sure I know what I'm ordering, trust me I do. It becomes combative after awhile. I've been eating authentic Mexican food all my life. With that... I can't wait to try more items from the menu.
