The nacho's are some of my favorite in the area and I like that they layer the ingredients, be sure to dig a little before you fill up on the top layer of chips as most of the goodies are hidden in the second layer. The kitchen fries are worth ordering and come with a garlic aioli, but I prefer the chipotle mayo that comes with the corn nuggets with the fries. Suttino's jalapeño popper pizza is sooooo yummy. I've ordered it twice and one had a lot less toppings, but if you request they aren't shy on the toppings it will be your new favorite if you're into that type of thing. The sausage and mushroom pizza wasn't crazy saucy so if you like sauce, maybe ask for more? The chicken bacon ranch was also killer. All in all, one of my new favorites in the area. Worth a stop and I always thought it was a to go burrito and taco shop based on the name, but now you know.

Where The Cheese Cave offered contemporary pizza and grilled cheese recipes (ingredients sourced from the titular local Faribault Cheese Caves), El Jefe connects Faribault diners to the traditional cuisine of a Mexican taqueria!!! I have been here an upwards of 10 times over the past two years and always leave satisfied and smiling. Ambiance is very basic, but the food and staff make up for it. My recommendation: stick with the tacos (traditional, classic) or indulge in their fabulous cheese nachos (probably not authentic, but what a treat). Taco ordering walkthrough: 1. How many tacos (3 is filling for me but can eat much more...) 2. Choose meat. I recommend the Al Pastor. All are good though (tripitas is cow stomach lining, but it's good if you're ok with it). 3. They'll ask if you want toppings (raw onion, cilantro and fresh lime). Say "yes." 4. Don't forget to ask for a Jarritos or a Mexican Coke! (I may get sparkling water, which is healthy and refreshing...) 5. Select sauces (multiple). Less spicy to the left. The green salsa is very accessible - not too spicy, quite tangy. 6. Seat yourself Eating at El Jefe is to enjoy very warming, comforting food. And experimenting with different salsas will be enough to please any foodie. This is top two restaurants in Faribault for sure. Taco aficionados ... will probably be relieved to find a good taco fix in the area! But nothing next-level e.g: no regional specialties, not much beyond the standard beef-pork-chicken meats, not a lot of topping variety (no radishes, pineapple); I don't think the tortillas are made fresh (but they are warm and fragrant of course). These are all the sorts of things that might make a 9/10 taco joint a 10/10. El Jefe isn't best tacos of your life or anything, but they are great tacos and one of the best Faribault restaurants.

This taco bell is so slow and dirty every time I go into it! I have been here at least 7 times since I have moved to this area, and it has been extremely messy just about every time I go in. In fact is it so messy that I refuse to go inside the restaurant. We will only eat taco bell at this location in the drive thru. I can't image how dirty the back of the restaurant could be if this is how they pay attention to the front! WOW. Even though it is a fast food place, I expect more. My son and I stopped in for dinner. I had the California burrito with beef and added cheese, and he had three beef street tacos. First, the portions were very generous. My burrito was huge--about the size of a Chipotle burrito--and the tacos were well filled. No complaints at all about the amount of food. Unfortunately, the preparation and flavor were where things fell short for us. Parts of the tortillas were cool, and the shredded cheese I added to my burrito was still basically unmelted inside. The California burrito comes with french fries in it, which was new to me, but the fries were also cold and ended up feeling more like filler than something that added much flavor or texture. My son had a similar reaction to the tacos. The flour tortillas weren't really warm and were pretty bland, and his first assessment was simply, "mid." Teenager terminology aside, I understood what he meant. Neither of us thought the food was bad; it just didn't have the flavor or freshness we were hoping for. For some price context, our check was about $39.20 including tax for the burrito, three tacos, a water and a Jarritos. I tipped 20%, bringing the final total to $47.05. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table on metal trays, so it's primarily a counter-service setup. At that price, I think getting everything out hot and putting a little more flavor into the food would have made a huge difference. I actually regret not saying something while we were there about the cold fries and tortillas because it would have given them an opportunity to fix it. I just hate sending food back...The restaurant was also very quiet at the time--just us and one other couple looking at the menu--so maybe we simply caught them on an off night. I'm still going to give Bueno another shot and try something different. I really do want this place to be successful, especially having another option like this close to home. There's a good foundation here: the portions are generous, the concept is good, and a few relatively small improvements in temperature, preparation and flavor could have made our experience completely different. For this visit, though, I have to rate it based on what we were served. I was disappointed, but I'm hoping our next visit gives me a reason to update this review.
