But, later we asked if we could take pictures of the food and we were told yes. So not the biggest deal but something to note for other reviewers. So, the tortillas from the chicken tacos were cold. The waitress kept coming back and lingering to take our order, and rush us out. She even made the comment "you guys are slow eaters." It felt very uncomfortable. We usually like to go to lunch we order appetizers (ceviche and soup), then an entree (tacos). Usually we get dessert and drinks but due to the waitress we decided to skip on these and just leave. We were sat upstairs so I guess she didn't like to keep going up and down. However no one else was dining in at the time so I'm not sure what the rush was. The waitress even made the comment that she was the owners sister in law. She came up to me and asked me if I was his neighbor and stated my last name and asked if I was related to another restaurant owner. She took my phone number at the beginning, I'm not sure why there was no wait. So I am unsure if that's how she got my name because I didn't give it to her. Which was just uneasy to me. Again I loved the dinner the other night. So I don't want to say never go. These are just my thoughts so yall can know what you are getting into.

Small counter space by the restaurant. The restaurant has no seating. Space enough for maybe 2-4 people while you order your food at the counter. I noticed folks sitting in their cars waiting for their name to be called out. 2 Chicken, 2 steak tacos, 4 chicken tacos, California chicken burrito, chicken and asada quesadillas, side of chips and guacamole. $50.25. The guacamole doesn't look so good, the container wasn't fully closed (later found out after opening it at the office) and it turned brown on the drive back to the office. Was told at checkout that I would get salsa, but it is only the salsa verde, not my favorite. The chicken tacos look anemic. The tacos look so very sad and the cilantro looks old and brown as well. I ate a few pieces of chicken off, it rather bland. I was hoping for some red salsa, but only had the salsa verde. The guacamole was bland as well, added some of the salsa verde, still insufficient flavor for me. Rather lack luster street tacos at the stand. Doubt I will return to eat again.

After reading through some of the reviews I was compelled to try the following fillings, which are below in ascending order of their deliciousness: - Carne Asada: It's fine, but I wouldn't get it again. - Cabeza: Tender and flavorful, but oddly dry for a typically rich filling. - Carnitas: Juicy, tender, and delicious! A winner. Among the best I've had in the region. - Al Pastor: Yes! Finally! So far, the only good version I've found of this classic here in the area. I'd say it's a must order. Oddly, what dragged these tacos down for me was the choice of the corn tortillas. They were a bit too stiff, and their flavor was so pronounced that the shells overwhelmed the fillings. Typically in this type of situation, one can simply remove one of the two tortillas and just eat them gingerly to avoid the potential failure of the taco's structural integrity. However, my tortillas somehow fused together which made the operation impossible. What does that mean? Well, in future visits I am going to be looking for other ways to make the carnitas and al pastor shine! Maybe it's in a quesadilla. Perhaps a torta? Or could it even be atop a plate of Botanas? The mind boggles. But I'm looking forward to the journey and giving El Rey that fifth star when I find it. Oh, one last thing. The horchata is tooth achingly sweet.
