I always get random pieces of lettuce in my stuff or random beans when there aren't even supposed to be any on the sandwich

Had a pretty okay lunch at this Mexican restaurant in Belvidere. It has a pretty nondescript…read morelocation on a dead end street to be honest. Taqueria El Torito is serious authentic stuff. A lot of the familiar items. You can even get exotic things like tripe if you like it meaty. Found out about it while looking up the Mexican restaurants around here. It's certainly got lots of competition to be sure. There's shit tons of these. A pretty boring place inside. Really not much of an atmosphere with it actually pretty quiet. Has no alcohol. It's about $3 to get the Jamaica. This is a hibiscus beverage that's good stuff. As for the food it's mostly authentic. It's about $12 for the Taco Salad. Choose a meat or get it with toppings that include avocado, cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and more. The rest of the menu is meaty with animal parts such as tripe. Got a menu full of classics. It's located on North State Street at Old Beloit Road. There's a plaza behind the gas station and next to a laundromat that are things to look for because it's hard to find coming from wherever.

They welcome us in and said we could seat anywhere! We were there around 1pm and it wasn't crowded! I notice people were ordering to go! Overall, if you happen to be around Taqueria El Torito, please try it! Delicious, tasty and good family ambience!

Certainly wasn't sure about this Mexican place in Belvidere. De Juan looked like it was pretty…read moresketchy even from the outside. It's at the end of a pretty crummy strip mall and that's saying nothing about the kinds of people. How bad would it be inside? Turns out not that bad to be honest: cheap looking but okay though. After thinking about it we went inside and got seats at the bar. It had a few others in there and it looked pretty okay. The menu is basic Mexican American stuff. It's about $7 for cocktails. Luna Azul is a blue margarita. This was an innocent looking but strong one though. As for the food, not bad. There's the basic types of stuff. It's about $11 for a burrito. The Vegetarian Burrito is among these. Very stuffed with onions, peppers, and whatever. Comes with a cheese sauce on it. The burrito without it is maybe even better it seems. Honestly it's a place that needs to be given a chance and not passed up just because of the sketchy area. It's for sure not authentic, but it's still mostly okay though. There's plenty of choices for meat eaters as well as vegetarians.

My friend loves the margaritas here and so we both got large ones and I upgraded tequilla but shouldn't have bothered. It's just a margarita, or I shoulda just got a shot. It's my opinion margaritas are kind eh, unless you really know how to make them super traditionally with lime, tequilla on lots of ice and salted rim. Anyway it wasn't bad, I'm just picky when it comes to mixed drinks. So I got the ground beef taco meal with rice and beans. It had some pretty runny "sauce" and the beans and rice were standard. I was ok with everything but not impressed quite frankly. Especially when the bill came. For taco meal, a margarita large it was $36 before tip. Making it in the forties with tip seems just kinda ridiculous. I know prices have gone up everywhere but geez. I probably won't make a trip to go again but overall just ok, except for prices. Friends looked good. Service was great anyway.

When I was a wee lass, I went to the Taco Bell right by my house on Southtowne Drive. Even when I…read moredidn't eat tacos (which I eventually got over), I always loved the churros and cinnamon twists which made my heart sing. It was an integral part of my youth. When I walked the dogs (before we had to put Lilly up for adoption and Cheddar died of cancer), my mother would say "Don't go past the Taco Bell!" and I knew exactly where to stop, by the bright orange (that soon turned to muted brown) building with the large sign sticking up from the ground saying "TACO BELL" The Taco Bell was the most noticeable part of my ride home every day. I remember when they painted it over, I asked my mother what they did to Taco Bell, why they did it, and loudly exclaimed my hatred of it. Though I quickly grew to accept it (and until today forgot that it was once bright orange) When I was twelve, a catastrophic failure happened at my school: My class baked churros and some idiot used salt instead of sugar. I was utterly disgusted and disappointed and after school, Dad took me to Taco Bell (even though he really doesn't like it) and got me Cinnamon Twists. However, one day I got the news that they were opening up a new Taco Bell and shutting down my beautiful Southtowne Taco Bell. Although the service here is auicker, I still completely and utterly despise the Gateway Taco Bell. Kt is the spittle that forms in my dehydrated mouth, the dried piece of poop clinging to my butt after I take a hefty dump. It is my number one enemy, no longer can I legally sit on those pretty checkered tables that cried out relics of a bygone era even when the Taco Bell had lost its vibrant colors from the 1990s and faded into the muted browns and greys I knew it for for the rest of my formative years. This Taco Bell has no personality to it, it just looks like a bland, "modern" Taco Bell. At least the one on Southtowne looked just a teensy bit unique. It is too new to hold any memories like the Taco Bell on Southtowne did. A few days ago, there was a massive internet, cable, (and for truly unlucky people, cellular) outage that lasted many agonizing hours, and during that outage, I walked right over to what used to be the Southtowne Taco Bell and sat there, on one of those checkered gravel tables, and just thought about life, digital camera in hand, my dirty yellow vans propped up on the seat, and my plushies on the table. Speedy drive thru, was in and out in less than a minute, so I guess that gives it another star.
