They seem to really not enjoy their jobs and don't give decent customer service. Dr. Mitchell is awesome! My 9 month puppy has been a patient of Dr. Mitchell's since I got him at 4 months. I was worried about some symptoms he was having, and the office was able to get us an appointment the next day. You can tell that she's very passionate about the work she does in the community and isn't just clocking in for a paycheck. She takes her time and answers any and all questions that I have. Not to mention, my puppy absolutely loves her! I've been in the office 3 times, and every time the waiting area and exam rooms are immaculate! Not impressed; very dated facility. I didn't care for one of techs and oddly my my pup who literally likes everyone did not want to go to her. Nor did he seem comfortable throughout the appointment.I went in for a follow up based off of a prior ER visit since our regular vet was booked. I was hoping to have this place as a back up. However, a follow up x-ray was not performed to ensure what we saw at the ER was not an infection. So with that said it was a waste of time and money. I will be returning to our regular vet for the follow up X-rays when availability is open. I will never take my pup back here. read more

I have been bringing my fur babies to Dr. Prime and her Tackett's Mill Vet staff for ten years. I started coming here with my retired military K9 dog when I first moved to this area. Over time I got three other dogs and they have all come here as well. The vet staff is always very kind and helpful. I have never had any problems with parking and their hours work great for me. My family and I finally got our first dog. We got pet insurance and set up his first appt with Tacketts Mill Vet ASAP. The Doc who saw us, Dr. cat, Cathleen? It started with a 'C', she was very short with us and rushed with his shot and oral Bordetella. I had to stop her and ask what she was giving to my puppy. I could tell she was annoyed but be professional, explain every single step and procedure. It's our first dog, in general regardless if it's your first pet or not, we need to know what is being given to our pets so we're aware, can document, and know what we are being charged for on the bill. You don't just go around poking human babies, same with baby animals. Explain and communicate thoroughly with the parents. On the bill we were over charged a good $50. They charged us for an adult dog visit instead of puppy wellness visit which is about a $30 difference. They charged and gave us tablets without explaining what they're for. Come to find out they were heartworm/flea tablets that should be covered in puppy wellness visit. I had to call, get it corrected, and we were reimbursed but it makes you lose trust and have to question every little thing going forward. The second visit was with Dr. Prime. She took very good care of our puppy. You can tell she cares a lot about animals but a good doctor needs a good staff. The third visit, three employees were at the front desk, I stood there awkwardly for 5-10mins, even one of the techs just stared at me; not one of them acknowledged me. No Good morning, take a seat we will be with you shortly, how can we help you today? etc etc. Nothing. Finally when the young man decided to acknowledge me and look up, I had to state I had an apt, the time, and my puppy's name. He just said put him on the weight machine. I didn't feel welcomed at all. Even after the tech took us to the exam room and did her part I ended up overhearing them gossip about me and my puppy through the back door. Asking what was the meaning of my puppy's name like it was silly, and mocking the fact I didn't allow a treat to be given to my puppy because we were not sure if it was grain free etc etc. Yes, Tacketts Mill Vet, you can easily be heard from the back in the exam room. Be more mindful. I've called two times over the phone and was told my puppy was due for a shots when he wasn't. Dr. Prime, we love you but your staff needs to be more professional, work on their customer service, and pay close attention to detail. Really care about and study the job at hand because we are trusting you with our pets, a life, a living breathing creature, our family. A bulldog isn't an easy breed but they're amazing dogs. My puppy deserves the best and I'm sad I have to look for another vet. I wanted my puppy's first vet to see him grow up and a vet I can trust. I really tried to like this place. The reviews on Tacketts mill vet were amazing that's why I picked them but I'm letting you know there are a lot of things the receptionist/techs need to work on. I'm a medical health professional and I have a lot of patience but my last straw was when they denied my prescription request via Chewy's.com for the heart worm tablets they've given to my puppy twice. Instead, they authorized a different brand/tablet. It's an inconvenience. All we are trying to do is be on top of our puppy's health care needs. Tackett's mills vet, please change and care more. I don't know if you are treating me differently because I'm a young adult walking in with a 3k puppy. You don't think I care or know any better but I'm a mother, wife, college graduate, and medical health professional who just wants to do right by this puppy, a member of our family. read more

We have a new puppy and was looking at vets in the Lake Ridge/Woodbridge area. Glad I found Tackett's Mill. They are excellent with our dog and with us. The customer service and reception is great, very warm and accommodating especially to new pet owners like us. (Sidebar: We went to another vet with more reviews in Yelp and was met with very unfriendly remarks by their receptionist which discouraged us to pursue them although I liked the space they have). In Tackett's Mill Veterinary Hospital, they genuinely show their love for our new family member and never hesitated to kiss them. They are very transparent with their fees and they don't attempt to incorporate other unexpected charges. I recommend this practice. And btw, they have boarding too. I understand its $28 per night without time limits. read more

Time flies. My last moment w/ my dog was at Tacket's Mill. They were very patient and understanding. Dexter deteriorated very quickly and I was able to get him in that day. My whole family came to be with him on his last moments. They stayed opened a lil late on Saturday b/c we were waiting for a family member to get there. Receptionist is very friendly and you can tell she genuinely loves animals. Doctors are wonderful and caring. My pup has done all her shots and checkups here and she is STILL not afraid of the vet despite having been stuck with needles. The whole crew here just really seems to love what they do and take pride in it. She was so kind and knew her skills to a T. The change of management and the way it was done was very unprofessional. Dr. Gossman would have never have never saw that happen.
