I researched the company for reviews on both Google and Yelp, but there were none. They had been in business for 2 years already, so that seemed a bit odd to me. They did have a few positive reviews on their web page, but those can be easily manipulated and faked, where reviews on Google and Yelp cannot. I called and talked to Steven Jaco, the owner of the company, and he had a very charming and friendly personality. His price was very reasonable for the amount of work involved, and he appeared knowledgeable about moving, so we took a chance and hired him. And he also assured us that his company was insured, and any damages caused from the move would be covered.
When they showed up for the job the 1st morning, there were only 2 movers, and one of them had just started that day...so one with no moving experience. The owner, Steven, showed up 2 hours later. Unfortunately, the one mover with experience was like a bull in a china shop, and did not seem to care about whether or not he damaged our personal belongings. He bullied items through the doorways, with no care or concern of damage to the items or the door frames. Every time he hit something on the door frame, he would say "oops, sorry about that", and just keep going. We heard him say this 8 times in the first 2 hours! The new hire that was working with him was much more careful with our belongings.
The next day it was only the 2 movers. The owner did not show up to help, as he was more concerned with going out to get more jobs lined up. They asked us if they could use my 2 wheel dolly...we said they could use it as long as they did not break it. Within 3 hours, they had managed to pick up a nail and flatten the tire. They did not even offer to fix it! The 2nd day required 18 hours before everything was moved, and we had to help them carry stuff to get it done.
Here are the results of the move, although we still have not had time to check all of our items for damage yet:
*Scratch and dent in car from moving large red storage cabinet in garage - causing over $1800 damage!
*Flat tire on the dolly we let them use
*Ripped open a bag of fertilizer and tracked fertilizer into the home, rather than sweep it up.
*Several doorways in both houses have nicks in them
*Dining room chair had white paint on it from rubbing against bookcase in truck.
*Chunk out of bookcase
*Bottom of living room TV stand pulled apart because movers preferred to slide it on the carpet rather than pick it up
*2 missing pins in king size bed frame. Found one of them on the carpet at old home.
*Large gouge in very expensive exercise equipment...also the power cord was not there after they delivered this item, making it useless.
*Arm on brand new recliner had threads in fabric ripped because mover chose to push it through the doorway rubbing on both sides, rather than pick it up, and turn it on its side, where there would be adequate clearance.
*Cabinet shelf pins left on carpet at old home
*Metal shelf brackets left on garage floor at old home
*Bumper on bottom of desk knocked loose, not picked up, and then our 2 wheel dolly later picked up the nail from the bumper and flattened the tire.
*Big scratch in hope chest.
We contacted Steven, the owner, about the damage to the car, but he is giving us the run around that he turned it into his insurance and they are looking into it. Several days later he won't even answer our calls! Kind of looks like they lied about having insurance.
Even though we were told that all damages occurred by them from the move would be taken care of, no compensation or repairs were offered by this company. We were promised our personal items would be handled professionally, but that did not happen. It seemed it was all about seeing how much could be crammed into the truck, regardless of what damage would be caused by doing so.
Bottom line: I would suggest that you look elsewhere for movers if you value your personal items.
