Shes very personable as well as very skilled in her profession. He's gone to other masseuses and has had bad experiences. When he left Shurrone's, he was extremely relaxed and pain-free. Soooo I am super picky about massage. No really - I am a massage junkie. I HIGHLY recommend Shurrone for lots of reasons. 1. She knows her stuff. I mean she even studied Thai massage IN Thailand. She is always educating herself; I see lots of books on various healing topics in her office area. Yea for continuing education! 2. An hour massage is an hour spent ON THE TABLE. Seriously. I was made to feel treasured and cared for. I never once felt rushed. The appointment felt like it was all about me. As a single mom working 3 jobs, I rarely get to feel that. I have had some blah massage experiences, and very few great ones, in my life. This ranks among the great ones. Parking was not great, but I can't bring myself to penalize the massage therapist for that. And, of course, I walk out feeling blissful each time. It's almost....sinful.... I feel that it takes great training and intuition, on the part of the massage therapist, to be able to gauge pressure and timing. I just had my second session with Shurrone today, and I'm hooked. I had my first session two weeks ago. I have a broken foot and had just been on crutches for three weeks, and my body felt crunched up and broken. It hurt to walk with the crutches, but it was doctor's orders not to walk without them. So I decided spur-of-the-moment that I needed a massage, stat. I Yelped massage therapists in Alameda (when on crutches, your range suddenly shrinks) and found Shurrone, and she was able to fit me into her schedule that day. In just a 1-hour session, she restored me- worked out the knots in my neck, shoulders and back so that using the crutches was bearable again, and I walked out of there feeling almost normal. Another great thing is that I felt no residual after affects- no soreness or achy-ness as I have experienced with other therapists (she said she prides herself on that). This woman is truly the best masseuse I've ever been to. I had a spinal injury that caused terrible neck pain and knots in my shoulders. I even had tingling in my arms it was so bad. I thought I'd need surgery or something very major to get better. In just 6 months of monthly appointments The knots and arm tingles were GONE and my neck (which has 2 damaged discs from a neck break) is so much better that I don't even think about a need for surgery. She is friendly and has a talent for finding the problem areas and using just the right amount of pressure. She uses quality oils and plays peaceful music in a warm homey room that feels much better than the cold bland room you get at a typical massage place. Holy crap. I've never gotten a massage high before. I am still seeing stars. My body is slowly starting to betray me, even though I'm barely 30 years old, and Shurrone manages to somehow roll out the muscle pain caused from sitting at a desk all day, or from running around boulders all weekend. I'm really persnickety when it comes to choosing massage therapists, and she totally meets all my criteria. It's important to me that they have grounded, positive energy and know how to blend different styles of massage. I never understood when people talked about falling asleep during massages...until I came to see Shurrone. I basically pass out for a part of the massage every time. It's relaxing, but she's also super strong, and really digs in to any problem areas you point out to her. I've been to her a few times now for prenatal massage, and I would highly recommend her...pregnant or not. The pregnancy pillows with the cutout are pretty amazing though, I must say. I appreciate that she's always upbeat, and has a good vibe. And she's clear that she's not chatty during the massage, but will be, if that's what you like. I like that she gives you the option. And she doesn't set one of those annoying digital timers like they do at some spas. She'll go over time every now and then and she doesn't make you feel bad about it or charge you more or anything.
