June 29th I had my immigration interview, after many years and many prayers everything went great!…read moreAll I need now is an update on my physical (they expire after 1 year) I decided to go to the place I originally got it done at. I called Dr. Cortez office and was told he is only in every other Saturday, I said ok and schedule for Sat July 7th. Friday July 6th at 5pm I get a phone call saying he had to cancel all appointments for Saturday due to an emergency, which I completely understood as things do happen in life! I was told the Doctor would be calling me to reschedule on Monday morning July 16th. Not only did I not receive a call on Monday but when I did get a hold of someone I was informed Dr. Cortez would not be in until August, no referral or apologies were given. As I mentioned I waited a long time for this and all have to do is submit an update, Dr. Cortez and his administration handled this situation very poorly. With that being said I would not recommend you visit this office for highly important needs.

I went to see Dr. Cortes because he is near my house, and I figured given the location the rates…read morewould be reasonable; the rent in his building is really cheap (I know the landlord actually- fellow Canadian!) . The doctor and his staff were really nice, but I was a disappointed in the service and the price. Here is the situation: I'm Canadian and just moved to the USA. I had a current Canadian prescription for an insulin pump but needed a routine form signed by a US doctor since Medtronic was sending me a new pump. So I showed up with all the forms and copies of all my Canadian medical records, filled out some paperwork, and was told it would be a 15 minutes wait. Instead it turned out to be two hours! I would go up every 30 minutes and check in and each time I would be told "just 5-10 more min" and it wasn't until the 4th time and threatening to leave did I finally get seen. What's even more annoying is that when I finally saw the doctor he just signed the form, and was done in less than 60 seconds. He didn't do any kind of exam on me or ask many questions; nothing. We talked for a couple min about Canada vs. US health care but all in all it was less than a 3 minute visit. I nicely asked if he could give me a break on the fees explaining I was happy to pay for an appointment/exam but I was forced to wait for a very long time and we both knew he was simply signing a piece of paper. I was told by Dr. Cortes that he wasn't in charge of the payments and to talk to the front staff. When I asked them I was informed it was Dr. Cortes that set the prices and such as it is his practise. I just gave up and paid... Had I not been made to wait so long, or if the doctor had just been straight forward instead of trying to pretend he wasn't really in charge I would not be so mad. I don't like games and I don't like being made to wait unnecessarily. Maybe it just me, but I was really disappointed. I will also comment that the waiting room is pretty poorly maintained, and not the most pleasant place to be in.

There is garage parking, but it's for the workers. The receptionist is nice and requires a Covid test before entering. The place itself is well kept. It's nice and clean, there's an outdoor patio where you can get some sun. A few tables and chairs. Flowers and a small foundation. There's two sections of the building. There's no order or weird smell, this facility is very clean. For the most part, the nurses are really nice, kind and talkative once you get to know them. My mother goes there everyday so she knows all of their names. I have a few favorites because they give my dad amazing care. Even the male nurses and workers are great! They would come in and adjust my dad so he doesn't get bed sores. The respiratory therapist, Gina is amazing! She's so sweet. She's been taking care of my dad really well. Some of the nurses/CNA that I really appreciate and want to show recognition for their hard work is Maribel, Genesis, Michelle, Amanda, Sophia, Daisy, Edwin, Patrick, Ricky, Masa (spelling?) and a few others that I can't remember their names. I mostly know their faces when I come visit. My mother wanted to add: Karen, Liza, Edith who are social workers and they have been very helpful. The nurses, cna's, care takers are all careful when it comes to my dad's care. He can't be on his right side due to the brain injury he has. I would also like to say, the director, Shirley is very kind. She has been a great help during this difficult time for all of us. She's been really accommodating to my mother which I am very thankful. This place and staff is wonderful. They also decorate the courtyard for the holidays (see photos). No negative feedback at all. The janitors and clean up crew are also hard workers,

Although interpreter was provided, his staff asked me communicate with her in English at the first beginning. His conclusion contradicts basic common sense. In defending his conclusions, he distorted the timeline of my condition, ignored the pain in my heel entirely, and never addressed it. In subsequent MRI results, all of my symptoms were confirmed. It's unimaginable that a doctor could operate without basic common sense. In my case, it's really hard to tell whether the problem is with his character/morality or his medical expertise. Holding such authority, he instead uses it to intimidate and bully. Even the insurance adjuster said she felt sorry for me. Truly shameful. The whole experience working with him was an absolute nightmare.

So I came in today with a back that's been so stiff and sore! She takes the time to hear my whole story - back's been sore for 2 weeks, I do a drumming class where one leg is always in front, I have godbabies who I always hold in my left arm because I'm right handed, I run half marathons, I sit at a desk all day etc. With all this going on, I decide to treat myself to a 90 minute and I'm so happy. She really gets in to the tender parts, where the muscles attach and the oft neglected squishy parts that are hiding the tightest little muscles - and tells you as she's doing it while also offering advice for how to keep the tightness at bay. She's super knowledgeable about the body. When I'm the deep pain like I had today, I don't trust just anybody - she knows what she's doing! Sure, the building isn't pretty, but who cares, that's not what you're here for. (Also note that yelp's map is wrong - it's not near BART, it's in Alameda). Absolutely coming back!
