This doctor's diagnosis is not only absurd but also lacks any logical basis and common sense. During the phone consultation, his staff attitude was rude and dismissive, offering no explanations to the questions, yet demanding a definitive answer from me with only yes or no and don't allow me to explain anything. Although interpreter was provided, his staff asked me communicate with her in English at the first beginning.His conclusion contradicts basic common sense. In defending his conclusions, he distorted the timeline of my condition, ignored the pain in my heel entirely, and never addressed it. In subsequent MRI results, all of my symptoms were confirmed. It's unimaginable that a doctor could operate without basic common sense. In my case, it's really hard to tell whether the problem is with his character/morality or his medical expertise. Holding such authority, he instead uses it to intimidate and bully. Even the insurance adjuster said she felt sorry for me. Truly shameful. I stick with my review of Dr. Taylor as a standup guy, but as an update on my story, I went under the knife with a different surgeon who discovered that no, I did not have a strain of the long head biceps tendon. My biceps tendons were "the healthiest I've ever seen," said my surgeon after the operation. Instead, it was referred pain from my infraspinatus muscle. I don't blame Dr. Taylor too much for this misdiagnosis; the surgeon who operated on me made the same mistake. I apparently was a tough case. October 18, 2018 following my visit, I was initially not optimistic since I've had so many disappointments with medical services in Oakland. I walked into Dr. Taylor's office and sat in the waiting area with another woman who asked if I was having my knee replaced. I replied, "I don't really know m'am, it's my first visit." She said, "Oh you will be very happy with Dr. Taylor, he did my knee surgery and I feel like a new person. I have been so frustrated over the last three years with clear and caring review of my knee condition. Although I will not need a replacement at this moment, Dr. Taylor took time to [listen] and educate me. He reviewed my MRI and took time to educate me about the sagittal views of my knee where other providers, even Kaiser failed to pay attention or provide care. Dr. Taylor is fully present, listens, and offers information I hadn't gotten elsewhere. I'm writing this about Dr. Taylor, because we have had quite a lot of interaction with him, and his staff, over the three months from November 4, 2017, through January 2018. My husband's 90 year old mother fell on the evening of Nov.3, and was taken to Alta Bates. About midday on the 4th, the hospital determined that she had a broken left femur and right humerus - 2 fairly serious bones in a person that old. Dr. Taylor was called in, and by about 8 in the evening, had performed the surgeries to repair and stabilize both bones. We met him after the 2nd surgery, in the hospital lobby. Although he had certainly had a busy and tiring "work day", he was generous with his time, showing us the X-rays, answering all our questions about the injuries and prognosis, and even explaining the science behind titanium being the best choice for metal rods when bones need reinforcing. We immediately felt complete confidence in Dr. Taylor's skills, as well as his obvious compassion, and a true enthusiasm for his chosen profession. During the 5 days my mother-in-law was a patient at Alta Bates, he continued to conscientiously monitor her progress. She can't have been an easy patient for anyone at the hospital to deal with, since in my own observation, as a daily visitor, she did a lot of complaining and arguing with all the staff, much of it based on post-anesthesia mental confusion and inaccurate memories. But Dr. Taylor never has wavered in his determination to bring about the best possible healing result, given his patient's resistance to medical treatment, and fairly advanced osteoporosis. My husband and I also both had occasion to visit Dr. Taylor's private office in company with my mother-in-law (first, to have the cast replaced with a brace; second, to have the brace removed). On each occasion, Dr. Taylor and all his staff who were present, were extremely patient and caring. After the examination and technical reason for the visits were over, Dr. Taylor was always willing to take time to answer all our questions about the medical issues, to our full satisfaction. This has been a particularly challenging situation for all concerned, since my mother-in-law is a devout member of the Christ.Science Church, and never would have chosen hospitalization or any kind of medical intervention, if she had had a choice in the matter. However, passers-by saw her fall and called an ambulance, the ambulance was required to take her to the hospital, and in the absence of an Advance Health Care Directive, the hospital was legally bound to provide the treatment deemed essential to insure her wellbeing and stability. But again I want to give Dr. Taylor all my admiration, for his respectful attitude towards a set of spiritual beliefs which I myself find extremely hard to either understand, or have much patience with. Dr. Taylor managed to do such an excellent job with his surgery, setting and stabilizing of the two bones, that within about 8 weeks my mother-in-law was having very increased mobility in the broken arm, and beginning to walk with the broken leg. Now, at a little under 3 months, she is able to hold things and do a little lifting with the injured arm, and is walking faster and faster down the whole length of corridors at the Christ.Sci. nursing facility where she has been living since mid-November. In reply to our query about "timeline of healing" when we first met him, he told us that for someone of this age and condition, 3 to 6 months was usual. We feel that all credit is due to Dr. Taylor's exceptional skill as a surgeon, that his patient has made such good progress, in a scant 3 months. I can say unequivocally, that if either myself or my husband should ever have any of our own bones come to need surgery and healing, Dr. Taylor would be our first choice, without a moment's hesitation. read more

If you are urgently trolling the Internet for an orthopedic surgeon in Oakland, look no further. Dr. Taylor stitched up my achilles tendon and exceeded my expectations of orthopedic surgical care. My review reflects my experience after more than two months under his care. Unlike the arrogant (orthopedic) surgeons we see on TV -- or even know in real life -- Dr. Taylor is just about the opposite of the stereotype. He is kind, patient, and genuinely interested in you as an individual. As for his actual skill as a surgeon, from what I can tell, he did a beautiful job repairing and sewing up my achilles. I had no complications with the surgery or healing in the weeks following. Ten weeks after surgery, I am making progress in my physical therapy sessions, right on par with others who have had their achilles surgically repaired (like Kobe Bryant). I called his office a few times with questions about my healing leg, and he always took my calls himself, if not immediately, then within a few hours of my calling. And he never made me feel rushed or stupid for asking (what I thought were) stupid questions. Dr. Taylor's entire office staff also demonstrated great patience and empathy, as though they truly understood what I was going through. Everyone did their best to make the insurance, scheduling, and other paperwork go as smoothly as possible. It didn't feel burdensome the way it can at other busy medical practices. Angela, Dr. Taylor's medical assistant and right hand during office exams, was also phenomenally caring *and* careful during procedures. Note that all the negative reviews of Dr. Taylor here on Yelp refer to things that have nothing to do with the quality of his care as a surgeon. I've seen many doctors in my lifetime, and my wait times over five separate visits to Dr. Taylor's never exceeded what is to be expected of a lively medical office. It was also a breeze getting an appointment to see him. I ruptured my achilles tendon on Sunday, got in for a consultation appointment the next day (Monday), and was in surgery on Wednesday, just two days later. The practice treats urgent matters with urgency. I found Dr. Taylor on Yelp and am grateful to the reviewers who pointed me in his direction. If you have plenty of time on your hands and like waiting, often for an hour or more, Dr. Taylor is your guy. His office staff is unprofessional, rude and insensitive. When I complained about my latest wait (and last, ever), of more than 35 minutes, one of the nurses responded, "You've only been here once," (which is incorrect), as though I don't have a right to be seen promptly until i've been there a few times. Huh? I walked out and demanded they return my $20 copay check (locked in the cabinet, only Dr. Taylor's mother has the key ... right). My appt was for 2:00, for which I arrived promptly. After waiting for over 35 minutes this time (waited over an hour first visit, and over 90 minutes second visit), just as I asked how much longer I'd have to wait, I heard Dr. Taylor come in the back door. Yeah ... his time is valuable but mine isn't. If this was the first time this had happened, I could give him a break. But, since my first visit, in 2009, this is a pattern that I don't see them changing. Thank goodness there are plenty of other doctors out there from which to choose. Will never set foot in this office again. One thing's for sure, with waits times like this, I won't be the only patient who decides to go elsewhere. I waited almost 60 minutes after my appointment time to be seen, and when Dr. Taylor finally came in, he spent just about five minutes with me. His bedside manner wasn't great, but he pretty quickly diagnosed my problem. Unclear yet how accurate since his suggested cure hasn't seemed to work yet. My friend's mom went to the ER of Summit hospital, and Dr. Taylor was the doctor who did the hip surgery for her on Nov. 2014. My friend's mom was a tiny, 73 year old woman, with a hip fracture from a fall. After the surgery, the patient went back a few times for follow up check-ups. I was involved in helping translate. Here are some notes that may help you get an idea of Dr. Taylor. He treated her like family. Since the surgery, the patient cannot stand up, I saw Dr. Taylor put his big hands under her arms, lifted her up, and transferred her from the wheelchair to the exam bed. He had a smile on his face when he talked to her. This brightened up the whole visit, and makes the patient comfortable. His staff was nice too. He listened to the patient first, then he explained the situation. He was not in a rush to finish the visit. He told the patients how the pain was normal and how long the patient needs to recover, which gave the patient confidence to face the difficulties ahead. The most important is thing is the surgery was very successful. Now the patient walks very well, she said her hip feels even better than before she fell down. Often, when I talk to her, she says "thank Dr. Taylor for the great surgery ". Now she is thinking of having Dr. Taylor do knee replacement surgery. read more

As a competitive Skydiver and Skier, I have had to recover rapidly a number of times from injuries and return to competition. When I am receiving medical treatment, I believe the most important things are that I am treated by a Doctor that is a highly qualified medical professional, I develop an excellent relationship with them and that they have surrounded themselves with highly competent, qualified staff. Dr. Taylor performed major shoulder Rotator Cuff surgery on my right shoulder. The surgery went well and the recovery process is going very smoothly aided greatly by Angela, Christy and other members of his staff that take great care of me on my office visits. The office visits have actually been fun because I am reminded that recovery from a major surgery does not have to be a grim process if you are surrounded by talented professionals that understand the importance humor in the healing process. When I went in for my surgery with Dr. Scott Taylor on January 8, 2018 I expected a full hip replacement. But he really he gave me so much more: A spring in my step, a smile on my face and the attitude adjustment I didn't know I needed. For six months I dreaded everything, because any movement could bring on pain without warning. Now I can do everything without the fear of pain. I decided to wait until now to write a review so I could experience the whole of the recovery and rehabilitation process related to my hip surgery.  Now that it is the end of March and 11 weeks since the surgery I can truly and thankfully say that Dr Taylor has given me my happy pain-free life back. The surgery itself was unbelievably pain free, a few prescription pain meds the first few days was all I needed. After that, I took Tylenol for less than a week. Since the surgery I have not had a moment of pain or discomfort that came close to what I'd been living with for months leading up to the surgery.   I never thought that being able to painlessly run across the street to make the light before it turned red would elicit so much joy.  That and so many other little movement events that are now pain and stress-free are a result of what Dr Taylor did for me.   The experience that I had with this procedure is nothing short of a miracle. Walking up stairs the day after surgery, driving a week later, back in the gym in less than a week, fully functional in the gym in less than a month---I am so thankful and appreciative of what he gave me.   And my review wouldn't be complete with acknowledgment and gratitude for the attention from the amazing office staff. I cannot ever remember being treated with this level of care and compassion by any medical group I have dealt with. I am so happy with Dr Taylor and his staff and can't recommend him more highly. I think one generally has to injure themselves before making use of my recommendation, though. I decided a bimalleolar ankle fracture would be fun and as luck would have it, Dr Taylor was assigned to me at Alta Bates Emergency. I've spent weeks thinking I'd never walk normally again but, son of a gun, I'm almost there. My pain was awful - persistent and intense. I was happy with the pain meds I was using and when I asked for a refill, Dr Taylor half-ed the dosage and doubled the time in between. I was initially not too pleased but he was right - absolutely right. I was getting too comfortable with what I was taking and when in my GP's office I had a wee epiphany; I'd become comfortably numb. And soon I wouldn't need them at all. He was totally right again when I attempted to decline in-home physical therapy. Like I'm just lying down or hopping to the loo with my trusty walker. What good could it do? Like I said, he was right again. And it's not like he argued with me or anything,.. Dr Taylor just smiled and signed me up. (He is such a nice guy) And now my out-patient PT is really hastening my healing. Also, Dr Taylor's assistant was very gentle with my staples and both casts. I am so grateful. I've broken both my wrists over the last ten years and I wish I had known Dr Taylor then. Both wrists remain weak and misshapen. If you are looking for an orthopedist to call for yourself or a loved one, I recommend that you call Dr. Taylor right away. The gap between ER and orthopedist is a pretty queasy one, and the moment you get on the phone with Dr. Taylor's office you start getting cared for. There are two primary things that made my experience with Dr. Taylor's office so positive (despite the fact that I had a broken and dislocated ankle). What you encounter first is his staff, who are all attentive, thoughtful and prompt. They were able to get me an appointment the day I called, and after the appointment arranged a surgery suite for the next day. Afterwards they called me regularly for follow ups and check-ins during the recovery. Next there is Dr. Taylor himself. He did an amazing job of explaining the procedure and aftercare to both me and my fiance. He is a kind and humble man who listens well, and as a result answers questions well. The procedure itself went well, and Dr. Taylor was attentive throughout the immediate aftercare period. He talked me through exercises to do while in the various casts/boot, and then finally saw me during physical therapy to check on my progress.Throughout the initial visit, surgery and follow up visits (over the course of two months) Dr. Taylor did an amazing job of setting realistic expectations and encouraging me throughout the recovery process. After a bad fall I needed to see an orthopedic surgeon. I was referred to Dr. Scott Taylor. Dr. Taylor is not only a highly skilled orthopedic surgeon, but also a very kind and wonderful man. After seeing the severity of my fracture of shaft of my left humerus, Dr. Taylor decided to perform the surgery on the same day he saw me. The surgery went very well. In order to minimize damage to my upper arm muscle Dr. Taylor decided to perform a minimally invasive surgery and inserted a titanium rod through my left humerus. The X-ray I saw after the surgery showed Dr. Taylor's superb surgical skills. I am on my way to healing and will have a much better range of motion after the surgery as well as shorter recovery time. After I had broken my collarbone in a fall and had been initially treated at a local ER, Dr. Taylor was recommended by the hospital for an exam. He was personable, listened to my concerns and responded to my questions. He clearly explained the nature of my injury, the treatment options and his recommendation for the best long-term outcome. Scott Taylor and his associated office refused to see me as a patient, even though I was covered by athens blue cross and the office is within my network. Their policy is to not see any patients if they have been in an accident involving a third party. I was hit by a vehicle while on my bicycle, therefore they refused to see me. I had just been released by the hospital a day earlier and was told I needed elbow surgery within the week. If was very hard to find anyone who could see me so fast. It is extremely callous and dangerous to not see a patient because you don't want to deal with a tough insurance situation. I'm shocked this is even legal. It just keeps getting better with Dr. Taylor. I was nearly speechless today leaving his office. After a hassle-free knee surgery on a torn meniscus, I had my one-week follow up appointment today. He took the time to thoroughly explain what he found when he scoped my knee. Dr. Taylor must have stayed and talked to me for 20 minutes about a variety of random things. He didn't once look at the door, say he had to get other patients, or any other distractions that I've become so used to with other doctors over the last decade, Visiting him really feels like a throwback to what it must have been like when Doctors were worried about building relationships and listening to patients, not filling as many time slots as they could in a workday. I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon maybe not only the best orthopedic surgeon, but maybe one the best Doctors/people in the bay area. I had a complete rupture of my quadriceps tendons at the right knee on a Saturday while walking down an incline. Dr. Taylor had done a repair on my father-in-law's shattered hip about 3 month prior to my fall, so Monday morning I was on the phone to his office staff. His staff is wonderful and they set me up with an appointment that afternoon, and Dr. Taylor did the surgery 2 days later in an outpatient surgery center. I managed to fall off my bike in early June, breaking both my hip and elbow. Landing in the ER, I was told that Dr. Taylor was available to do the surgery the next day. So, with positive thoughts in mind, I underwent an operation for both....hardware in my elbow (complicated), and several screws to stabilize my hip. Throughout this process, I have found Dr. Taylor to be very skilled, present, and kind.
