Dr.Thomas Peatman,Hip Resurfacing Surgery.... I was in so much pain with my hip. I thought I would lose my mind.. I was referred to Dr. Peterman by another orthopedic surgeon in the same building. She told me I needed a total hip replacement. I had been reading a magazine in the waiting room concerning knee resurfacing surgery.. I said too bad they don't do this for hip replacements. She said" There is hip replacement surgery. I just don't perform them, but Dr. Peatman is qualified to do hip resurfacing surgery". She called his office and I went straight to his office.. was the kindest doctor full of knowledge still very young at the time, he put me at ease and explained everything about the surgery. Having hip replacement surgery was the best decision I've ever made in my life. I've had absolutely no pain in the hip., the morning after my surgery, I hesitated to put weight on that leg for fear of the pain that would happen in my hip. The nurse encouraged me go ahead. It'll be OK,I put my weight on the leg, in total amazement,I had absolutely zero pain deep in my hip. I had forgotten what it felt like to have zero pain in my hip. It was and still is to this day, amazing to be without pain. I love my hip-still to this day love my hip resurfacing surgery. I am so thankful for Dr Thomas Peatman. It goes without saying Dr. Peatman has and always will have his own special place in my heart. His office staff were also wonderful to me. I will add I was his first Hip Replacement Surgery. Talented wonderful surgeon. Yes I know. I'm just a little prejudice,after all, he gave me back my life he gave me back movement dancing ,walking even setting pain-free. read more

I have been very fortunate over the last twenty years to have been treated by a family doctor who is connected to a network of fantastic specialists. This is the reason I travel almost 200 miles to be treated by Dr. Peatman. The Webster Orthopedic Group is a class act. Every person I have dealt with has been friendly, polite and professional. Calls are answered or returned promptly, waiting room time for appointments is almost non-existent, Dr. Peatman and his staff are efficient and respectful of my time. Often, they get me in early and out quickly due to my long drive. All my crazy requests are handled efficiently with 5 star customer service. I have never been made to feel I'm asking for too much or wasting the staffs time. Dr. Peatman is a confident but not cocky surgeon who always makes me feel he has my best interests at heart. He takes time to answer my questions and explain treatments and procedures so I fully understand. He never appears to be in a hurry. During my surgeries, I have noticed the operating room support staff seem to enjoy working with Dr. Peatman. I even had one nurse tell me he is the best surgeon she had worked with. Dr. Peatman has operated on both of my hips. He had to do a revision on my left hip that another doctor did a poor job on it and the prosthetic hip that broke inside of me after only 2 years after it was installed. He helped me tremendously. He has a great bedside manor and don't quite attitude about getting you out of pain. I would fly around the world to have him take care of me and my family. His staff is tremendous. I'm thrilled with the outcome of my total hip replacement and am so grateful I found Dr. Thomas Peatman. He is exactly what a doctor should be: caring, compassionate, optimistic, and incredibly talented as a surgeon. He is exactly what you want when relying on an expert to help you walk again! He was available to answer my questions and gave me support when I needed it, including calling me on his day off to check on me. I feel he's a true healer. I recommend him highly, and I wish all doctors were like him. Eight months after my surgery I took a trip to Costa Rica, where I went zip lining, inner tubing on a pretty rough river, sailing and snorkeling, horseback riding, and to top it off went hiking in a cloud forest where I hiked eight miles one day (and climbed the equivalent of 90 flights of stairs according to my app). I am truly back in action. The staff at Webster Orthopedics is also a joy to work with. I had a worker injury and anyone who had to deal with worker comp knows it is not easy. My first surgeon told me he doesn't like worker's comp cases because it was too difficult. I was referred to Dr. Peatman and he told me he would do what it takes to get my surgery done and with the help of his evaluation, I had my surgery completed within 6 months. After my surgery his office was in constant contract checking on my recovery. I had questions and when I called, Dr. Peatman answered them himself. Oh perfect, a review directly on the doctor instead of the facility he works at. I actually have respect for Webster and all the other doctors there, and oddly enough Dr Peatmans Physician Assistant Brian. He is one of the nicest doctors I have met that actually seems like he wanted to help me with my pain. If he could be my actual doctor I would have been so grateful. I have seen a total of 14 doctor's for my pain and I was hoping this would be the last one.. This doctor recently gave up on me when he promised to fix my hip and lower back pain. He actually gave up in the middle of an appointment and walked out because I was upset and crying. Let me give a short background and hopefully you will understand why I was so upset. I am a 23 year old woman who has had chronic lower back and bilateral hip pain for 3.5 years. (I gained about 40lbs from not being able to work out as much as I used to, which means I am about 40lbs over weight, which isn't enough to be causing this pain.) I can barely get out of bed in the morning and I cant even get dressed on my worst days. I can't keep a job because most days its difficult for me to drive, let alone sit in a desk long enough to get through my shift. I can't live my life like I want to. When this doctor told me I could have a normal life I was excited to not be in pain anymore, so when he gave up and walked out of my appointment I was really pissed. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia recently and apparently that scares off all doctor's or they assume they will break me. He refused to do the surgery to fix the tear for 2 reasons. First was, the surgery could potentially give me a fibromyalgia flare up. Flare ups will go away after a few weeks, and that is not a choice for him to make for me. If I want a surgery that will help me be more active and have just a little less pain I'm going to want the surgery. Second was, "I didn't get the tear yesterday playing a sport," according to him. I guess this doctor forgot that I used to be a Principal dancer in a BALLET COMPANY and this unknown pain from injuring myself at rehearsal is what ended my career! Either he one, doesn't consider ballet enough of a sport, or two he forgot I was a ballerina and thought I tore my hip laying on the couch!!! I guess the pain of a 23 year old isn't enough to make a doctor care. Instead of helping me find another possible solution for the pain or another diagnosis he walked out on me then dropped me as a patient. He told me in the prior appointment that this could even be my SI joint, instead of seeing if that was the cause, he just abandoned me. He recommended me see a pain management doctor. I don't want to "manage" my pain at 23, I SHOULDNT HAVE PAIN AT 23! I should be able to keep living my life! A few last details that made the experience not so great. 1) I told the doctor that any injection wouldn't help with the pain and will actually make it worse, from experience. He insisted it will either give relief or no pain at all. It was the worst pain in my life, I was up for hours that night crying with ice on my hip trying to sleep. I was actually considering going to the ER because it was so bad. I felt like someone was sawing my leg off. 2) He did not inform me of the potential side effects from this injection. (One side effect being what happened to me.) It was actually written in the exam sheets that he informed me when he in fact did not. 3) Lastly, he didn't even know my age! He said I was 22. I didn't have the energy to tell him I am actually 23. Pretty sure doctors should know these things. I am about to get married, I want to walk down the aisle without a limp or an extra 40 lbs on me, I cant live my life with this pain. I wasted so many visits with this doctor when I could have seen someone who actually wanted to help me. He really let me down. I do not recommend this doctor at all! read more

I can honestly say that Dr. Peatman is one of the most knowledgeable and talented orthopedic surgeons in the Bay Area. My husband and I first met him when he gave a lecture on osteoarthritis and joint replacement at Alta Bates in Berkeley. We asked questions and he answered clearly and thoroughly. We really liked his approach to joint replacement surgery so we made an appointment to see him at his office. His manner is kind and caring. He has a great bedside manner (always positive!) and a funny sense of humor. I felt very comfortable going forward with my knee replacement surgery. His support staff, especially his PA, Brian Costello, are just as caring as Dr. Peatman. I had previously worked with two orthopedic surgeons in the East Bay over the course of 12 years but never felt 100% comfortable scheduling my surgery as I did with Dr. Peatman and the staff at Webster Orthopedics. He was honest about possible outcomes after my surgery and laid out a careful plan of rehabilitation and therapy. I felt like I had a medical partner helping me to be the best person I could be. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Peatman. Three years ago I had my right hip replaced and the surgery was very successful. The home care rehab came over 2 times and then dismissed me because the surgery was so successful. Off the pain meds in 2 weeks, back at work at my desk in 2 weeks. The follow-up visits were just a basic check-in. Dr. Peatman suggested that I wait three months before I start playing golf-I waited and three years later I am pain-free. Eighteen months ago I had my left hip replaced by Dr. Peatman. This time it was even better-no rehab was required as I was walking doing so well. Golf again in six weeks. I found Dr. Peatman's bed-side manner excellent and would recommend him to anyone. read more

Grateful I could have an appointment with him even on a super busy day at his practice!
